  1. Girasole in Bound Brook--BYO LouCa's in Edison--BYO
  2. Never been. Let us know how it is and if it is BYO. I have been to Campani 17-15 Broadway Fair Lawn 201-797-8222 BYO and the food was very good there.
  3. Lowell and I have had wonderful meals out all week and last night we had another winner at Cinque Figlie 302 Whippany Road, Whippany. We started out with bruschetta topped with juicy tomatoes and a grilled circle of stuffed zucchini. Bread was served warm--thank you-- and a bottle of fruity olive oil was on the table. For an appetizer Lowell had a fabulous smoked salmon filled with mascarpone cheese that was tied together with a chive ribbon. My grilled calamari with a fresh herb dressing was perfectly cooked and delightfully presented as a flower with a tomato forming the center of the flower. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and the ribs of my lamb chops were intertwined and standing at attention. They were surrounded by piped mounds of scrumptious sweet potatoes, broccoli spears, and a mound of mashed potatoes topped with a small stuffed tomato. Lowell had a pasta special swimming with mussels, clams and a half of lobster with a spicy tomato sauce. We both loved it also but it was messy. We shared a walnut tart for dessert. With a bottle of Carpineto 1999 Chianti Classico we had a wonderful dining experience. Call 973-560-0545 for reservations.
  4. Iano--Why don't you come to China 46 on Sunday. Just e-mail Rachel with the info. And bring some beer, wine and a corkscrew for Tommy.
  5. I have another small piece coming out on 4/17 about Epernay on Table Hopping With Rosie.
  6. Yes. I was invited as part of a PR event. I'm not big on Indian food and what we had was part of a promotion. I look forward to reading your report.
  7. dining this weekend? Tonight we are going to Cinque Figlie in Whippany, tomorrow we have a party at Forsgate Country Club and Sunday it's China 46! And you????
  8. I had a very enjoyable dinner again last night at Epernay, 6 Park St, Montclair. BYO. We started off with a frisee, crisp bacon and blue cheese salad with mustard dressing and a poached egg on the side and a local organic green salad tossed with herbs and sherry vinaigrette. Entrees were fabulous scallops in a light herbed tomato sauce and a pan roasted trout. I wouldn't hesitate to order both again. On Thursday's Chef Mark Papera serves cote de boeuf for two and the next Thursday I have free will find me back at Epernay having this dish. Dessert was profiteroles filled with ice cream accompanied by a pitcher of warm chocolate sauce. We rolled out of the restaurant as portions are big and so good that it is hard not to finish everything. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 5 to 11 PM. Phone: 973-783-0447.
  9. I like Formia except for the fact that they aren't BYO. Locally, we like Stretches in Livingston, Sofia's in North Caldwell, Corso 98 in Montclair, Blue Sky in Montclair, Epernay in Montclair, American Grill in Randolph. GEE--there are alot of places I like alot.
  10. Haven't been there in years. Is it worth the trip?

    Chengdu

Try Hunan 46 on Rt 46 E in Fairfield. Also, in Livingston try Ocean King. Mr.Chu's is on Rt. 10 in Hanover and there is a new Bill and Harry's or Harry's and Bill ?? opening up in Livingston where Friendly's used to be. Are you coming to the eGullet Chinese dinner on Sunday? That is a place worth driving to.
  12. I was out of town and didn't get the paper. Which restaurant was reviewed? Who reviewed it and what did they say? Thanks. :)
  13. How long have they been open? Do you know anything about the chef?
  14. Ouch! Sorry to hear that about Latour. In any case although 99.9 % of BYO restaurants open your bottle they really are not suppose to by law. They aren't suppose to pour the wine either.
  15. Where were you? Always bring a cork screw. Many restaurants don't open the wine fast enough for me! :D
  16. I put a tape recorder under my napkin. The down side is that you can't always understand the tape because of the noise!
  17. Tommy--What a nice offer. I'll think about it! :)
  18. We were here once. The tables were very close together and we felt squished. The food was ok but not that good that we would drive 45 minutes to get there. If we lived in the area it would be the type of place that we would go to on a week day night.
  19. Steve--I was thrilled to read your posting. I met Norman a few months ago at a NJ charity event. What a lovely man. Lowell and I are finally going to get a chance to dine at his restaurant in a few weeks. I will print out your report.
  20. Muse, 11 South St, Morristown 973-292-6300 closed Sun. It's located where Ixtapa used to be.
  21. The Park in Park Ridge is known for their steaks but the last time I was there someone had seafood and it was excellent. I think they have lobsters also. Ask them to fax you a menu.
  22. Thanks for the report. There is also a new Greek restaurant in Morristown called Muse. Have you been there?

    Corso 98

Bruschetta topped with diced cooked eggplant, onion, zucchini and tomato mixture and warm bread was the beginning of a very good dinner that we had at Corso 98, 98 Walnut St, Montclair. That was followed by fresh mozzarella, some pieces rolled in pesto, served with tomatoes and drizzled with olive oil. Chef Dino just finished making the mozzarella and it was still warm. Entrees were rack of lamb, their rib bones intertwined, sitting on mashed potatoes and served with a roasted shallot bulb and brunello wine sauce. My roasted salmon came with wilted spinach, roasted peppers, pancetta and grilled fennel. Instead of mashed potatoes my request for soft polenta was graciously fulfilled. For dessert we shared an apple torta with Applegate vanilla ice cream. Chef Dino also had some interesting specials: cured salmon layered over a bed of field greens accompanied with a fried wonton and fruits; crispy duck salad with a muscato grape sauce; chitarra with bolognese sauce; wild boar stew; and pistachio encrusted breast of chicken over wilted escarole and beans. This BYO restaurant gets busy on weekends so be sure to call for a reservation. Phone: 973-746-0789. Let us know where you dined this weekend. Start a new topic so each restaurant has a listing.
  24. I had this dish and it was magnificient. No taste of snot at all.
  25. I didn't eat all of that! I wish! :wow: Actually, I tasted everything. I only took two helpings of the polenta and two shrimp. I had the back and two wings of the chicken and half of the chocolate molten cake. I cut the edges off of the ravioli to save calories also!
