  1. NO. There were some postings about 15 Fox on "What are you doing this weekend 3/15?" topic but I wanted 15 Fox to have it's own page. For original postings go here.15 Fox Place and weekend of 3/15
  2. Dining at 15 Fox Place is better than dining at home. This home on a residential street in Jersey City is open Thursday to Saturday for dinner. And what a memorable dinner we had! We have been here twice, it has become a yearly event, and each time we sat in the elegant dining room with fresh roses, beautiful china, candles and crystal adorning the tables. Dinner here is relaxing and unrushed as the room is yours for the evening. We had the following at this BYO establishment: APETIZERS: Wine crackers topped with an olive tapenade Home made pizza Stuffed and unstuffed peppers Polenta arrabbiata Crab cakes with a red pepper coulis and basil infused oil Ricotta meat and cheese frittata Shrimp in a white wine sauce Homemade cheese ravioli with tomato sauce Ribbon pasta with a basil infused oil Mesclun salad presented in a homemade frico cup Lemon granita ENTREE Poussin with string beans, baby squash and stuffing surrounded by a red wine sauce. DESSERTS Biscotti and knot cookies Warm chocolate cake oozing chocolate syrup with homemade vanilla ice cream St. Joseph zeppoles Coffee We enjoyed everything and did a good job pacing ourselves! I loved the mascarpone/cream polenta with its spicy red sauce. The poussin was excellent and I only took a nibble because I was so full, I'll enjoy it for lunch.. The one disappointment was the salty frico (cheese cup) and salad which was heavy with dressing. With tax and tip the bill was $70 per person.Call for reservations a few months in advance. 15 Fox Place, Jersey City. Phone: 201-413-1614
  3. There will be a story about Indigo Smoke on Table Hopping With Rosie on 3/27. We had dinner there and would like to return ASAP. Prices are very reasonable but everything is a la carte. So is you want homemade biscuits--which you shouldn't miss--then they are $1 each. We shared a black eyed pea salad ($4) for an appetizer. Entrees were smothered pork chops with sweet potato chips ($10). Tasty but an obviously thin chop for that price. I had beef brisket $11.Sides were string beans ($2.50) and collard greens ($2.50). We shared a pecan pie ($5) for dessert. BYO.I'd like to try the fried chicken and boneless beef short ribs next. Indigo Smoke is open Tuesday through Saturday 11:30 AM to 11 PM; Sunday 10:30 AM to 9 PM; with Sunday brunch served from 10:30 AM to 3 PM. Reservations not accepted. For take out orders call 973-744-3440.
  4. Lowell and I aren't able to get to An American Grill, 246 Rt 10 W, Randolph as often as we like but last night we made it back there and had a delicious dinner. We started off with a special of pan seared seven spice ahi tuna served with baby arugula, caramelized onions and roasted peppers with a ginger-lime aioli sauce. This dish was fabulous with the spicy tuna complimenting the sweet onions. I hope Chef Lou puts this dish on his new menu. For entrees I had a hefty serving of mustard crusted salmon filet served with a leek, tomato and shiitake mushroom broth. Lowell had a very tasty dish consisting of juicy chicken breasts with scallops and wild mushrooms sautéed with garlic, fresh rosemary and a touch of lemon. My dish came with rice and I helped him with his sides of roasted potatoes, carrots and cubes of butternut squash. The kitchen sent out dessert for us and we tried but were unable to finish a humongous glass filled with blackberries, blueberries and strawberries in a zabaglione sauce. To top off this great dinner the cappuccino was very good! Phone: 973-442-9311
  5. Tommy--I am a professional eater. Of course I ate all of that. Actually, I left some items off that list. It is comfort--not gourmet food and it is very good. It's a fun evening as the experience is so different.
  6. We made a reservation 3 months in advance for a Sat. night. However, St. Patrick's weekend is usually quiet. We are going to be 6 people tomorrow. The dining room holds 12. One person doesn't eat pork and we told them about this when we made the reservation. This was my posting last year for our dinner on 3/17/01. I'll update next week. GO BLUE! We had a wonderful dinner at 15 Fox Place in Jersey City last night. The restaurant is on a residential street, in a home that has been decorated in a Victorian motif. There are only three small rooms to dine in so reservations must be made months in advance. We dined in the dining room and couldn't stop oohing and ahhing about the furniture, knick-knacks and of course the food. The experience was so different than dining in a restaurant. Everyone loved the place, food and ambiance. The dinner was a fixed price of $55 and unless you have a food allergy etc. that you tell them about before hand you have no choices. But there was so much food and it was so good that you will leave stuffed. We dined for 4 hours. BYO. The following is what I remember eating: Chopped olives on a wine biscuit Home made pizza Louisiana crab cakes Melange of peppers including roasted, stuffed and hot Frittata Handmade cheese ravioli Polenta with a tomato sausage sauce Pasta with a basil sauce Mixed greens presented in a fried cheese cup Filet mignon with shrimp sautéed in wine accompanied with mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli A side order of broccoli rabe Lemon granita Biscotti and knot cookies Warm chocolate cake oozing chocolate syrup with homemade ice cream Homemade ricotta style cake Coffee Price came to $70 a person with tax and tip. It was gracious dining with the most hospitable hosts. Put this place on your "must try" list. Phone: 201-413-1614
  7. It's a safe residential street.
  8. I was at 15 Fox Place a year ago and we loved it. The concept of dining in someone's living room, the endless courses of good food at a reasonable price and the fact that it is BYO makes for a great evening. Last year we were there for 4 hours and rolled out of the place.
  9. HUH!!! My glasses to see NYC? My glasses to see The Soprano's? Or do you mean am I BYOG to 15 Fox?
  10. What are you doing this weekend? I have no idea where we will end up tonight. Tomorrow we are going to 15 Fox. This is a restaurant in a private house. We went there last year and had a blast. Sunday is up in the air also. How about you? BTW--we went to see the twin lights last night from the Highlawn Pavilion. Couldn't see a thing. Also, they are filming The Soprano's in my development. They are using someone's house and our club house. We stopped there and couldn't see a thing either!
  11. Adagio in Summit has a chef's table that looks into the kitchen. Blue Sky just pulled down some shelves and their kitchen is more visible than before.
  12. Yes. He is the chef/owner of An American Grill in Randolph.
  13. How would you define an open kitchen? I mean how open is the open kitchen?? Are you asking about chef's tables in the kitchen?
  14. Where do you like to go? Do you have a favorite Irish pub?
  15. Friday March 15 is the last day you can vote for your favorite NJ restaurants in the New Jersey Monthly Reader's Choice Poll. Vote Here NJ Monthly Restaurant Poll
  16. Hank--Do you bring your own decanter when you go to a BYO? Last week we dined at Epernay in Montclair and a couple brought their own decanter. I've seen people bring their own wine glasses to a BYO but this was the first time I saw BYOD.
  17. I've always enjoyed Scalini Fedeli and never had a problem with the wine service. We dined there once and I told them I was bringing champagne. There were champagne glasses on the table when we were seated and glasses were replaced when a new bottle was opened.
  18. Ruby--Feel free to join the NJ gulleters on April 7th.
  19. NO. Do tell. I like frozen mints for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  20. Pitter-- I would have asked to speak to the chef or the chef's wife who runs the front of the room. The waiter should never have shrugged off the problem. My guess is that the chef/owner would have wanted to know about the problem and would have corrected it.
  21. Jim--Don't be a stranger. Where have you recently been dining?
  22. We had a very enjoyable dinner last night at Epernay, 6 Park St, Montclair. This BYO French bistro serves soothing comfort food. We started off with an onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese and a colorful beet salad with melt in your mouth braised leeks, mache and walnuts. Entrees were three hefty slices of calf's liver surrounded by onions, roasted apples and a delicious sherry vinegar jus. Chef Mark Papera does a great job with sauces and the braised short ribs were fall off the bone tender with a rich bread dipping sauce. We ordered a lemon tart for dessert and the kitchen sent over chocolate mousse charmingly served in a demitasse cup, and a don't miss tarte Tatin with a crème fraiche. The plats du jour will be changing soon so you have two weeks to try Epernay's cassoulet. As of now the following is served: game on Monday, cassoulet on Tuesday, bouillabaisse on Wednesday, cote de boeuf on Thursday, short ribs on Friday and beef bourguignonne on Saturday. Call in advance for reservations. The restaurant just received a VERY GOOD from David Corcoran in the New York Times 3/10/02. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 5 to 11 PM. Phone: 973-783-0447.
  23. When they are filming at Pleasantdale Chateau the security is unbelieveable.
  24. Michaelangelo's? Is that near the Belmont Tavern?
