  1. Waitress kept disappearing. Water glasses were not refilled. Waitress brought wrong wine. Waitress gave the credit card receipt to the wrong table twice before we waved to her to tell her that it was our credit card. Wine not poured.
  2. Chez Catherine is now owned by Didier Jouventet and hsi wife. Recently had dinner at Chez Catherine, Best Western Westfield Inn, 431 North Ave, Westfield. I was impressed that the wine list had wines as low as $18; the fixed price dinner was $45. A fixed price lunch is offered for $25. I enjoyed the food, not the service. We had: a seafood crepe surrounded with a coulis; shredded endives in a citrus and walnut vinaigrette with roasted peppers and goat cheese; mussels; and wild mushrooms in a puff pastry. Entrees were: chicken; salmon with a red wine sauce; tenderloin of beef "au poivre; "and rack of lamb. All were very good and came with delicious sides of whipped potatoes and al dente vegetables. Dessert was warm thin apple tart "a la mode;" raspberry cocotte; a raspberry cheesecake; and warm chocolate cake with chocolate oozing from the middle. This is a pleasant restaurant and certainly would be worth a return visit if I hear that the poor service improves.
  3. I haven't done a count but it seemed 2003/04 Zagat was heavy with restaurants from South Jersey.
  4. What a delicious evening. Thanks to Rachel and her helpers for getting this dinner together. It was great seeing everyone.
  5. Fat Guy--You had lunch at Finks before you came to the Chinese feast? Don't have a back yard or else I would volunteer. But I volunteer to attend.

  7. Plans have been approved by the township to do something with the old Hahnes building. I think they are going to put in restaurants/shopping with apts over the stores.

Other choices not mentioned are Bella Rosa, Rt. 10 in East Hanover and Stretches in Livingston. Both BYO. In Denville we like Casa di Amici. Corso 98 had a fire and will reopen soon.
  9. Chez Catherine in Westfield is not listed.
  10. When I posted about NJ Zagats I was interested in seeing if eGulleters agreed with the top restaurants listed for food and popularity. Perhaps we should make a list of restaurants that were not in the NJ Zagats and should have been. I'll start: An American Grill BTW--Outback is in the 2003/04 edition.
  11. Since I just returned from Australia and New Zealand and am still standing on my head I have been unable to read a month's worth of postings on eGullet and have not followed the postings on the media board! With that being said (written)--you may not agree with Zagat but I find it hard to believe that a restaurant would be omitted because they annoyed a Zagat editor. Actually--there are 2 editors and a handful of helpers listed. Local editor is Andrea Clurfeld and Editor is Daniel Simmons. The following were thanked. Randy Bergmann, Paul D'Ambrosio, Lizzie Fuerst, Maria Gallagher, Craig Laban, Pat Mack, Andrew Meyer, Eileen and Shannon Mullen, Cindy Nevitt, Sue Perkins, Kim Rizk, Pat Tanner and Jim Van Ore.
  12. Tommy--I think FG is coming from Princeton. Please give him directions from Princeton!
  13. Ah!!! But this is NJ Zagat so it'sok to keep it on the NJ board.

  15. For the record. I will share my wine but not my soup dumpling.

  17. The ride on Rt. 1 in Princeton to the NJ Turnpike in East Brunswick can take a good half hour or more. There are many lights on Rt. 1.
  18. Add Bara Sapir to the list.
  19. Details Rosie, details. They have Southern Fried Chicken. Good sides include collard greens and sweet potatoes.
  20. Preorder but be sure to get a noodle dish like chow fun. May be bringing our favorite child.
  21. Another place--Neicy's in South Orange.
  22. "On a future visit, I'd be delighted to try to the copper river salmon, which typically has a short duration of 3-4weeks." YES!!!! Let me know. Would consider NY also but isn't that treason?
  23. Thanks Jeff. That would be great.
  24. "Do you mean have them for every day service? or Do you mean they have them in the restaurant available, but put them out for special use/occasions? " Either. Would be interested to know both. "And why only Riedel and not other high quality glassware?" Because the ad was for Riedel. If you know of other high quality glassware that is used in restaurants certainly tell us where and what.
  25. Just saw an ad that listed restaurants that use Riedel glasses. The Bernards Inn in Bernardsville was the only restaurant listed. Do you know of any other NJ restaurants that use Riedel?
