  1. Two more great write-ups! Westender(Andrew) Province. Fantastic.
  2. I wonder if Sam is still ticked off with the incense smoke.. Recently he said - "Had lunch 2 weeks ago @ Rangoli and asked Vij to put out the gawd awful incense he had burning near us." Vikram, Please keep doing what you are doing.
  3. I just read that this particular story has climbed to 8th most emailed article in the newspaper. Great to hear about that many people intersested.
  4. Seven Seas on fourth has a very good indian candy, although I know they changed the name of it, but to what? It escapes me now CC
  5. I was by there yesterday, no workers could be seen. It is very stark, I heard someone wish there was a bigger patio at which to drink. They refer to it as a licensed restaurant. We have all seen those operating like a bar. Who owns this? A pub chain! If they can pull that off, while feeding the masses... They will print money. CC
  6. The bar at West is a great place to wait.
  7. hhmmmm........ After serious consideration, I'm leaning towards my namesake.
  8. Bringing something to a place that already provides what you want to bring in is what pisses me off about the whole thing. Chambar is very gracious, they will not say no to that request because they are such nice people. Maybe for my son's birthday we can go to a high profile restaurant, but is it alright if we bring in the appetizers from Red Robin, since that is his special birthday wish. Maybe we aren't big drinkers, but we want to bring in a Sauternes from the year Grandma was born for her birthday, is that too much trouble? I know , I know the wine argument is yet another thread. As a waiter I have been burned way more times than not by this custom of cake-bringing. Even the offer of a slice way too rare. Do we just let them eat cake? ...?... Be quick about it.
  9. The previous topic was called: Bringing birthday cakes into restauants http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=45369
  10. I think Steve's biggest problem is his disdain for waitstaff 'the waiter makes a face' 'the waitress scowls' 'staff incapable of communicating' 'a lowly crew member whose weak grasp of English leaves everyone scratching their heads' Maybe he's just plain scared of us all.
  11. Two stints, early 90's. Lunches at Jean Pierre's on Dunsmuir, then Dinners at Senor Frogs on Cornwall. A few times I got rides to Frog's with broker's who were out for the full pull of debachery. I seem to recall working a hung-over lunch or two after pouring myself out of work at 3 or 4 am. I can't imagine handling something like that nowadays.
  12. where is Jean-Pierre? from Jean Pierre's - early 90's power lunch spot at base of bentall tower
  13. excellent story thanks for sharing
  14. I talked with Theirry from Cincin yesterday. He informed me that he is ready to go with the chocolates. He also said that this is a bad time of year for the cherries, since they are more of a Xmas item.
  15. I know this is one of those horribly commercial times of year that we hate to buy into, but... it co-incides with my chocolate lovin' wife's birthday. She especially loves Chocolate Covered Cherries. Any ideas? peace
  16. Wow, sometimes these really get off-topic quickly. Did you know that this year, the restaurants have been given the choice of either offering a $25 menu or a $35 menu. This is bound to start the complaining of restaurants trying to rip-off the public.
  17. I've always felt that the best has come from those who treat you as they would like to be treated themselves. This is with courtesy, respect and a splash of wit. This has happened most recently at C, Joe's Grill on Fourth and CinCin.
  18. Did you hear that Lumiere and West played a hockey game against one another?
