  1. Some real* lawyer correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that individuals under the age of 40 are not a protected class and that they can be discriminated against on the basis of age. *I'm just a benefits lawyer, I know no cocktail party law.
  2. Put them all against the wall. Take a polaroid picture to keep at the hostess stand. Give them $20. Send them to McDonalds. I think that the entire story shows why blanket prohibitions of children are inappropriate (the diplomat's kids) and why people behaving inappropriately should be asked to leave. You don't bar people who drink alcohol from the restaurant, but I'm sure that you ask screaming drunks to behave in an appropriate manner.
  3. Dean, You've got my addresss to forward Chad's knife to when you're done. The person who gets it after me needs to PM his or her address. ;) Dave
  4. The Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta is having its New Years Eve party at The Palace Indian Restaurant in Norcross, GA (slightly north of the City of Atlanta). I assume therefore that The Palace Indian Restaurant can host 100 people and has some familiarity with Bengali food. More information is at http://www.baga.net/main_baga.htm#NewYear
  5. What are you going to replace it with?
  6. You're in awe because you're in the dominatrix business and aren't making much money? To be on topic, I've had a recent rat issue. We solved it with snap traps and peanut butter. No more rat issue (although it took a week to kill all those dumb rats--you'd think that they would be smarter than to keep returning to the same place to eat peanut butter when their buddy had his neck snapped, but apparently not)
  7. "Soto is till closed at this point so MF may be the best sushi place in town." It stretches the definition of 'in town' but Haru Ichiban in Duluth is better than MF and might be better than Soto (it definitely has better service).
  8. Is there really nowhere to eat in the Western suburbs?
  9. Which of those ingredients has gluten? I hope that the gluten sentence was just imprecision in writing, because I have a gluten-free household and would like to make the Nam-sod as you describe it.
  10. Did their nametags identify them by their relationship to Varmit? E.g., "Everett (Lil Varmit #3)" "Barbara (Mrs. Dr. Varmit's Mother)" Further, is it Mrs. Dr. or Dr. Mrs.? Both are appropriate I guess b/c you have a Ph.D. and she has an M.D., but I've been wondering about this for days.
  11. It has been since 9:17 last night since the most recent picture was posted, we need streaming Varmit-Cam [does someone have a wireless webcam on a miner's helmet that he could wear?]. This makes it difficult for me to live vicariously. (or is there a secret thread that I'm not seeing?)
  12. Are you going to put the head in the stew or do something else with it? Perhaps you can get some hominy and make pig's head posole for morning after.
  13. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of creepy crawlies on your pig if you do that. I'd make sure to tarp it and duct tape the tarp on the pool if you are going to go that route.
  14. Gee, you're having this event on a beautiful farm where they make artisinal cheese and bread. All attendees are within driving distance, enabling them to bring freshly prepared dishes. You're having a restaurant cook your pig. But you ain't got no stinkin' t-shirts!!! They probably also don't have a freshly poured concrete sidewalk.
  15. The best thing near my house is the drive through convenience place that sells milk and eggs (it also appears to sell a lot of porn, beef jerky, beer, etc.)
  16. At the risk of appearing defensive, the cheap eats stigma on this board is probably because there are so few posts that the dining preferences of people like me (I'm cheap, like ethnic food, and have a 5 year old and a 7 year old) are overly weighted. Two recent dining experiences have me going blah. I've been to the downtown Ted's montana Grill twice and was underwhelmed both times. The burgers are just plain boring and not well cooked. They go on and on about their special cooking technique where they cook they burgers on the griddle under a dome without just saying that they are fry-steaming their burgers. The bison burger I had tasted as though there was liver ground into the bison (tasted gross). I had a chicken sandwhich today that was completely unobjectionable. A plus to the place is that they hand cut their fries and the fries are good. I went to mid-city cuisine for lunch and was thoroughly underwhelmed by the food. All it appears to be is mumbo jumbo midtown, which fine, but nothing worth getting a car to go to.
  17. Did anyone else print the list and take it as a challenge? I've marked off the things I've had and am making plans to try the rest over the next year or so.
  18. Okay, now I have to stop and ask: is there a correlation between endowment and gourmandise? I can tell you for sure, having seen every eGullet moderator naked on multiple occasions, that it's not true of men. But maybe it's true of women. One can hope. Definitely. The positive correlation has prevented me from ever being declared a gourmet by the Gourmet Institute.* Then again, is it really being a runner-up to be called a well-endowed guy who likes food rather than a gourmet? *Note that this is a joke.
  19. I will move out if you feed the ferrets frozen baby chicks. Just so you know. Meat comes in the grocery store, shrinkwrapped. Yes, it DOES TOO. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. K Kind of bloodthirsty. I guess she wants you to use live chicks so it is more sporting. I'd think that the feathers going everywhere would be a problem.
  20. http://www.agr.state.ga.us/html/atlanta_fa...ers_market.html It is open 24 hours, but the famers and merchants are generally there from about 4 AM to sundown (according to the angry woman on the phone when I called).
  21. Take them to your favorite knife store and compare them to the stock in the store. If you're a knife nut, that will come through and I'm sure that the shop owner won't mind. (The downside is that you will buy something. If you're like me, it is nearly impossible to spend any quantity of time in a good knife store and not walk out with something)
  22. Great news. If you could bake pizza for 8, and perhaps some pecan pies, and fit it all into plastic containers for us, I'd greatly appreciate it. Just PM me with the time and place I should stop by to pick it up.
  23. I'm looking for a nice restaurant to take a good client to for lunch in West Caldwell, NJ. I know nothing about dining in New Jersey other than that I can find the answer on eGullet.
  24. Hm, I had forgotten about Zapps. We can only get them here occasionally. I've tried as many flavors as I can get my hands on and they're all good. you can mail order them from zapps and they aren't that ridiculously priced if you buy the largest case they have
  25. Did I miss the alcohol in the recipe?
