    Dinner! 2003

Trip to the Asian market today. Chive dumplings, steamed then lightly pan-fried, with a soy/sugar/chili paste/rice vinegar dipping sauce. Gkai Pad Gkaprow I have tried many recipes for this, and this one by Kasma Loha-unchit is my favorite. Something called "bok choy stems" at the market. They looked like bok choy stretched very thin. Steamed whole and served with a sesame/chili sauce. Jasmine rice. Coconut buns from the Chinese bakery. These were excellent. Must learn how to make them. Complete cost of tonight's dinner - $10.00
  7. Thought the better of it.
  8. Oh man, I had forgotten about fudge covered Oreos. I don't buy them, because I would tear them open in the car and they would be gone before I got home.
  9. Is the Guards still open? I used to go occasionally. And didn't the folks who owned it own some other bar too?
  10. Right. Let's move on. You still haven't told me the name of that tawny we had.
  11. You've got Ditsydine down twice. PS thanks for the reminder. I still need to make hotel reservations.
  12. He admitted to some late night exploits the other night, but refused to divulge any arrest info. Barfing incident?
  13. Why the ? Have they been discontinued?
  14. I had forgotten about those LU cookies. In our grocery they're not in the cookie aisle, they're in the "gourmet" section, so they get passed by. I'll hunt them down. Forgot Pecan Sandies in my original list.
  15. We've had a packaged cracker thread. Since I wasn't able to find a packaged cookie thread, I'm starting one. Yes, I know homemade cookies are superior, blah blah blah. But sometimes only a Fig Newton or Oreo will do. What are some of your favorites? I'll start: Doublestuff Oreos. I am limited to two at any given time, and keep them well out of reach. Fig Newtons Pepperidge Farm Milanos - not the mint or orange Lorna Doones
  16. Well, he didn't tell us until halfway through dinner, so it was too late to round up the waiters to sing to him.
  17. That sounds reasonable to me. Shall we get the posts moved to the Firefly thread, and the title changed on this one?
  18. Malawry's got pics of the food, and one of all of us. Much pink wine was enjoyed. I loved the oysters, salmon app, and the yellow tomato soup. My steak main was perfect. Of course the company was perfect too. Nice to meet a couple of new folks - new to me at least. Let's do this again. M, I had the Key lime cheesecake. Cheesecake isn't my first choice usually but this was very good - light and refreshing and the coconut cream was *really* good. Thank you John and Tricia. You have a lovely place that I can't wait to back to. P.S. John, what was that tawny you brought out? I love to hunt some down for myself.
  19. It is the 25th, thanks for the reminder.
  20. How big is the list? I could probably make a respectable showing.
  21. mazman, there should be. What's the head count right now?
  22. It's Greek, much thicker that Dannon, and delicious. Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? Whole Foods carries it too, but it's cheaper at Trader Joe's. I buy the 2% plain and add my own honey, nuts, jam, whatever. It's my favorite dessert these days.
  23. 7pm is OK by me. Mmmmmmmm, pink wine. Someone remember a camera. My digital is on the blink.
  24. Total yogurt with walnuts and buckwheat honey drizzled on top.
  25. So we are six. Bill Vengroff (Is Mrs Vengroff coming too?) Malawry Heather "Al" hannnah Anyone else? Chef said he's holding an eight top, right?
