  1. I have heard good things about Momo Taro Sushi in Rockville. Do not under any circumstances go to Nagoya Sushi in the King FArm development. Metallic tasting raw fish is very very unpleasant.
  2. I don't really like watching her. I don't hate her, but her show bores me. Her recipes, however are GOOD. Nothing fancy, but they're delicious and easy without resorting to crap shortcuts.
  3. Uh huh. Sure.
  4. This is delicious.
  5. That is odd. It was specifically the smell of food that put me over the edge when pregnant - cheese being the worst offender.
  6. According to the History of ice cream in Philadelphia, Philadelphia style ice cream is made without eggs.
  7. My friends in Edina would say Hotdish.
  8. Roux, antacids have lots of calcium. She might have been craving that.
  9. YES.
  10. It is still open. We've been twice and found it nothing special. The huge salad bar was full of indifferent vegetables and prepared foods. The meat was OK. It's a fun concept but not worth the price, IMO.
  11. I get it. Damn, maybe I could fence them and earn some real money.
  12. Apparently Heather, you've cornered the market =R= Whaddya mean?
  13. 12 pounds of Camellia brand red beans were just dropped on my doorstep. I think I know what's for dinner.

    Grilled Cheese

I'm with you Jack. Wheat or sourdough, good sharp cheddar, butter on the outside only. Slice of tomato if in season. Cook in a cast iron skillet until crunchy on both sides. Dip in worcestershire sauce, or for a softer texture sprinkle it on the sandwich. Scott likes his with Melinda's green jalapeno sauce on the side.
  15. Any of the Zapp's are delicious, and only occasionally available in the DC area. Utz's Carolina Barbecue are Scott's favorite. They're a cross between Barbecue and Salt & Vinegar.
  16. The Brick's selection is great, but unless things have radically changed in the past couple of years, everything is canned or bottled. RFD (same owners) has a large tap selection (lambic on tap!) in addition to a huge variey of cans and bottles. If the upstairs is open at the Brickskeller I'd sit there. Less claustrophobic. I have a soft spot for the Childe Harold, but only because I met my husband there. It's pretty forgettable these days.
  17. Thanks for the link, Avumede. And welcome to egullet. After reading this thread, I'd finally worked up the nerve to buy the 7 qt LC oven that we've been talking about for months. Drove 45 minutes to the closest outlet mall...and the LC outlet had closed. Maybe I'll order from the site linked to above.
  18. Steve, I've never been to a Wegman's, but if it's as good as described it will be better than my options now, at least for special trips. We're moving in a month, to a different Rockville neighborhood. The closest grocery store to my house will be a Food Lion. Ugh.
  19. I was thinking of Reston. I can be in Chantilly in 45 minutes. Wegman's won't be a regular trip for us yet, not until they build a Montgomery County store (dream on... ), but we'll probably go once a month or so.
  20. I just had a roast beef, provolone, and corn chip sandwich with mustard and bread & butter pickles, on wheat bread. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  21. Baltimore...maybe not. But Fairfax and Chantilly are certainly part of the Washington DC metro area. That might be just a tiny bit overstated. I'm in Rockville, and can be in Chantilly in 30 minutes.
  22. Cooked oysters. Margarine. Instant coffee.
  23. Will you be able to get good tomatoes for the pan con tomate? My book is in a box right now, but remembering what we've made, I can recommend these recipes: marinated olives marinated pork loin the potato salad with citrus, capers and dill another salad with new potatoes and tuna squid braised in beer wild mushrooms cooked with sherry gambas al ajillo any croquette recipe Do you have a source for salt cod? It would be wonderful as a stuffing for the peppers.
  24. I've never heard of it either. You might want to check out Jaleo. Also, there is an Irish pub in between the convention center and MCI. I think it's Fado. Kozy Korner is at 20th & N--apparently it's a real diner or close to it--the food is supposed to be good. Just the place for a late breakfast on my morning off after a hard night of entertaining. Kozy Korner was one block from my old apartment. Despite the convenience I only had breakfast there once. For a good breakfast, I went to Luna Grill (think that's the name) on Connecticut Ave just south of Dupont Circle. Dunno if it's still there, but if it is I'd recommend it.
  25. Welcome to egullet, Doctor. Cafe Atlantico is only 3-4 blocks from the MCI center, if you leave from the restaurant. Too far maybe in this weather, but not on a warm summer night - unless perhaps you have mobility issues?
