  1. Really? We've never been, but I thought it was a local red tablecloth place. It's a local cafeteria style chain. They have 6 locations, including one near my office. I've been a couple of times-- nothing to get excited about really, but not bad. Huh. Thanks. Doesn't sound worth checking out - however, the one in Rockville is always mobbed.
  2. In the strip mall in front of our neighborhood (Ritchie Center in Rockville) is a sushi restaurant, a Latino market, a Pho restaurant, a Persian bakery, Pizza Hut, an Indian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a Chinese carry out, a Middle Eastern market and cafe, and IHOP. All in one little strip mall.
  3. Really? We've never been, but I thought it was a local red tablecloth place. Yes that looks disgusting. Unfortunately, Olive Garden is the favorite restaurant of all of the women in my mom's group - except me. They always suggest it for "Mom's Night Out." Feh.
  4. Has anyone welcomed you to egullet, Charlie? If not, Welcome! And thanks for the laugh.
  5. Jon, how about frozen Patio burritos, or whatever version they sell at Costco in the 25 lb. bag. What is it with me and bad Tex-Mex? A gene mutation maybe?
  6. I always loved in Star Trek TNG how Captain Picard always ordered "Earl Grey. Hot"
  7. Orange Hostess Cupcakes. (A MAJOR pregnancy craving) Bologna and american cheese on white bread, or worse, bologna rolled into a little cylinder and dipped in yellow mustard. Taco Bell crunchy taco supreme, with fire sauce, and bean burritos, hold the onion. Hawaiian Punch. Tuna noodle casserole, with Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup.
  8. My Organic Market didn't have rennet. Maybe I will try one of the cheese guys at the Dupont Market next Sunday. I could probably get some online, but don't want a huge order to make one batch of cream cheese. Thanks Hannah, we've got friends that brew - maybe they will have some suggestions.
  9. Where is it? Sounds fab.
  10. Joe, have you tried Mama Lucia's (either location) in Rockville?
  11. Whole Paycheck was a no. Will try MOM and Rodman's. Thanks.
  12. I've been inspired to make Creole Cream Cheese thanks to this thread. Anyone know where I can find rennet tablets?
  13. You forgot the Black & White cookie episode.
  14. I was thinking of the Rhode Island Ave station. Anyway, back to mozzerella.
  15. I'm going to be happy when the New York Ave station opens on the Red Line. Should make it more convenient to get here for those of us who prefer not to drive if they don't have to. I don't get to that side of the red line very often these days, but when I did, I am pretty sure there already was a New York Ave station. Hallucination?

    Dinner! 2004

We dusted of the grill last night and grilled some big juicy burgers, served with leftover coleslaw from Tuesday's dinner. I love grilling.
  17. I'm in.

    Dinner! 2004

Crispy fried flounder, buttermilk coleslaw w/dill, and hand shaped, organic, artisinal, um, tater tots. Served with milk for everyone.
  19. I'd like to go. Let me check and see if Scott can watch the kids that night.
  20. I make a mean Chocolate Mayonnaise cake. Recipe from the Hellman's jar. It sounds gross, but it works. And what about Coca-Cola cake? I only see that when I visit my sister in Charlotte.
  21. I'd even be willing to cross the border from Rockville.
  22. I also would try Vace.
  23. Homer: "Don't think about beer. Don't think about beer. " From "Duffless," the episode where Homer swears to give up beer. I had an audioclip of this on my desktop for ages.
  24. How late is Nectar open? I was at the Kennedy Center Tuesday night, and passed by while walking to the Metro afterwards...gazed in longingly for a minute or two, but didn't want to go in if the kitchen was closed.
