Ever watch those nature shows about lions on discovery channel? After a kill where they've eaten 200 lbs of meat in one sitting? Not that we had only meat, but it was a huge meal. Two or three of the courses were entree size. I have the whole custom made menu with me, but I'm too catatonic like the lions to type it up. A fabulous meal. Great company. A wonderful night out. I imagine most places would be open. I certainly hope so-- a Friday Happy Hour sounds good to me. I can't drink water at my place in Alexandria at the moment without boiling it first. Seems like a good rationalization for hittin the booze.

It's been rough. Some of the winds must have topped FORTY MILES AN HOUR! I went to Sutton Place-- the local gourmet food store, picket up a magret breast, some fingerling potatoes, couple of artichokes, some duck liver mousse, maytag bleu, tomme du somethingorother, and a french loaf. Had a lovely dinner by candlelight. Thank God for the gas stove. Never cooked a breast like that before-- I did it well if I do say so myself. Roaster the taters with the rendered fat. YUM, hadn't had that since I was in France. Much ado about nothing here in DC. Not even much rain really. Just a little gusty, that's all. Well, this American had some duck. I looked all over for Orangutan, but I couldn't find it.

REPENT-- the end is near! I usually metro in to work, but now I gotta drive since Metro, in all its wisdom, will shut down at 11am.

Is it just me, or is that picture just downright pornographic?

Emma is the flower girl, so she will have many many chances at being out of control in front of a whole lotta people that day, while wearing a very fancy silk dress. What's more likely is that she will completely freeze up during the ceremony when she has to "perform." Then there's my son. I can totally see Ian grabbing a fistful of the wedding cake, or toddling down the aisle shrieking at the top of his lungs. What a little barbarian. My brother will be very glad that I talked him out of making him the ring-bearer. The talk of wedding cake reminded me of my godson twins' recent 1st bday bash. They hadn't had sweets yet, so we put a cupcake each in front of them and they went to town. You could see from the expression on their faces "THIS IS THE BEST THING I"VE EVER HAD"...... They got it in their ears, foreheads, hair, and nostrils. It was a riot to watch.

I never understood the deal with toilet paper. Do people actually shit more during heavy weather? I can never get the image of folks fighting over time on the crapper where they chug cartons of milk and load the bowl with storm induced logs... It's an atmospheric pressure thing. As the pressure lowers, ones bowels come under inversely higher pressure and therefore, BAM (to paraphrase an oft maligned chef), more.... uhm.... output.

When I was in high school, I worked as a cashier at a supermarket in Raleigh NC. When a whopping inch or so of snow was forecasted, we'd have to have ALL lanes open and the line would go to the very back of the store. The looks of panic on their faces. It was ridiculous.

I haven't done a damn thing to prepare. Seems like another "Storm of the Century of the Week" with all the media hype. (Please send me all your addresses so I can swim over for something to eat, just in case)...

I guess I was a little late on removing my stupid comment. This was due in large part to stopping at RFD (Heather knows the place), having a few Belgian beers while waiting for my burger, and waiting... and waiting... well, eventually I was too full on the heavy beer for the burger that they had forgotten about anyway. Four Belgians and no food has that effect on me. Anyway, I've been the godfather of twin boys for a year now. It's been a great experience. I can't wait to start cooking something fun for them.

I'm doing my ding-dangedest to see if I can get down there. My grandfolks will be in town sometime around the time of your pickin so I'm not sure yet. I'm hoping to know SOON. I want some of that! BTW, I flew into Raleigh last week for a meeting then had to drive to a conference in Charlotte. I stopped in China Grove NC at a place called Gary's BBQ, and had some great stuff. For $6 I got about 1/2 lb or pulled pork, hush puppies, slaw, and fries. Was so good, I had to stop on the way back too.

An ex GF of mine saw him at The Palm late last week. She got to meet him and he even kissed her cheek. Pretty cool, huh? Even George Clooney wants the hot chicks I date!

Ah... in that case I'll never respond to a blog again. Plus I'll be busy that week. And the week after... the next one too... etc.
