  1. Broccolli would be my fav green veggie. A little butter or EVOO & some garlic and/or parmesan. Then there's potatoes. I *love* mashed potatoes, doctored (garlic, cheese, whatever) or not. I recently had baby bok choy that was very good. Just sauteed with some oyster sauce & garlic, apparently. I'll need to add it to my shopping list. I'm now starting (again) to think about joining a veggie co-op so I have an excuse to try different veggies then my usual.
  2. Wow, I can't imagine that working in the US. Too many people on too many different diets (vegetarian, kosher, etc), and way too many kids with food allergies. I think there's something weird going on here that that is a problem, but that's a whole other topic....my point is that I just can't imagine Americans dealing well with the concept of no choices. OTH, I almost never bought my lunch at school. I went to school with a sandwich & fruit. *Maybe* a baggie of potato chips or pretzals or such if there was an open bag at home. Even through high school. Heck, some days I still do, although now I tend to nuke it for a bit. I hate cold sandwiches.
  3. 1063 Broad St, Bloomfield i like it 'cause it's open later than some of the other local ice cream places and not as outrageously overcrowded/overpriced. plus i have had the same experience as you (mondo chocolate chip), but much more recently. good stuff. you gotta go! Thank you very much! Actually, I find the comment about price amusing b/c my parents considered it expensive when we used to go. And they're still the only place I know that makes their own hot fudge. It *stinks* to sit down to a sundae with homemade ice cream, and commercial fudge.
  4. Microwaving worked well recently. I think 2 minutes on high on a low/older microwave, for about a cup of sugar, I think. It softened the chunks up enough to work with.
  5. Coming in a bit late, but..... The Pu Pu Inn is gone? We used to go there and then go over to Holstein's for dessert. Pretty excessive amount of food, but my father loves buffets, esp Chinese ones. And the Fireside is gone, too. I'm from Clifton originally, and that was just always there. I'm not sure we ever went to it, though (hey, I moved when I was 12). Prob too busy eating at the Pu Pu Inn! :) Please tell me Holstein's is still there....? Edit: Ok, I should know better then to not finish the thread. It's still there. Whew. I remember getting a 1" x 2" slab o' chocolate in my chocolate chip ice cream once. I got to get back there. Anyone know the building number on Broad?
  6. Christmas Eve is traditional Italian: fish, fish, pasta, fish, and about one cake per person. I believe Christmas Day is going to be prime rib. Not sure what else, except my mother stated no pasta since we'll eat it the night before.
  7. Just wanted to thank 201 for starting a thread I was too embarrassed to. I think my problem is mostly a lack of experience, but there are still plenty of things I don't know how to do, too. And tools I don't have....it's hard to slice eggplant thin enough to use as a manicotti shell without a mandoline! *wry*
  8. Yes, Stevens would probably be ecstatic to have a hotel in town, although I don't see that they'd supply enough customers, and I don't know exactly who else would stay there. I suppose if the prices are significantly less then NYC hotels, maybe. I hope they're building a parking lot for this thing! Allura -who was just up on campus and hadn't realized how bad parking got (disclosure: Stevens Alumnus )
