  1. Hello Laura B. I got my Appleton 250 in Jamaica. According to a previous thread it's not available in the US as the decanter size is illegal, which is why you haven't seen it around.
  2. I agree that Appleton are producing the best rums from jamaica right now, in fact some of the best rums available anywhere. The Extra 12 yr old is a regular in my collection, and although I like the 21 yr old even more, I haven't found it at a very reasonable price (but then are there any reasonable priced rums in New York??). For a truly memorable (and valuable) choice, go for the Estate 250 Anniversary edition - a deliciously heavy blend of rums, whch apparently, are up to 50 yrs old. Only 6000 bottles were made, and it's a full and complex blend of cooper pot distilled rums that comes in a distinctive crystal decanter (don't confuse with the 250 anniversary bottled in the standard Appleton bottles, which is a different blend). The one drawback - it's about $300 a bottle.
  3. I have a couple of the crystal decanter bottles of Appleton 250 special edition, the first of which I reluctantly (given the price!! ) cracked open last night - everything I had hoped for and more - very smooth with very nice and intruging flavour. I recommend it, especially for fans of other Appleton rums. OK the price is a little crazy, but it's a limited edition (6000 bottles), comes in a beautiful package and is something a little bit special.
  4. Hi Mike. If you can find it you may like to try Bundaberg Black, an Australian rum. It's one of the rums I cannot find in the US, but I know a few stores in London have it. I think Soho wines is one of them? It's pretty expensive but I liked it
  5. Hi - I've had an interest in dark/aged rums for some time - my favourites being Saint James Hors d'Age, Zacapa, AH Reiise, Barrilito 3 star, Tortuga 12yr and Pampero to name but a few. I decided to try a few white rums (all I have at the moment is CJ Wray), mainly for mixing and/or infusing with vanilla for a vanilla daiquiri. I bought Barbancourt White as I like their 3 and 5 star aged rums, but found the white to taste and smell, well....a little bit "off". Could I have a bad bottle, do I have bad taste, or is this a characteristic of their double distillation technique? Cheers! Dan
