Had the pleasure of dining at Per Se last weekend as well. Will not reiterate the menu, as all that we ate has been covered here in previous posts. Will say that I concur about the dining value. His ingredients are just better, and Andre, the sommelier, selection's equaled the experience with the food. Regarding the cut of beef that no one seems to be able to place, it is the outside of the ribeye. What I will say, is that when we dined, Keller was not here, and I cannot imagine in anyway the food could have been improved upon.

This reminds me of my meal at Pic, a 3 star restaurant between lyon and avignon in the south of France. We had been eating our way through France, and my partner opted for th 5 course tasting, while I could not imagine more than 4 courses. When his 4 course arrived, rather than leave me with an empty plate, the chef sent out several slices of margret. It was such the perfect touch, it remains one of my most memorable dining experiences(mostly beacuse the food and service were just so superior, not beacuase of the extra course).

Food in Soho, a cafeteria style restaurant on Wooster Street, gone about 15 years now. It also saddens me my children will never have a Ratner's onion roll

Although Fairway offers a better deal on paper, my service experinces there have been less than good, that coupled with the no more byob policy, would make my preference of the two to be Carne

After walking by this restaurant for 2 years, finally stopped in and had dinner last night. What a nice surprise!. Well cooked steak(flank for me, pork chop for my spouse). Nicely seasoned sides of creamed spinach. onion rings. Tasty cesar salad to start, and an interesting and affordable wine list. Dinner for 2 ran about 70 including tax and tip. Nice atmosphere, although the 80-'s disco music was a little loud. Service prompt and friendly. Will return soon and often.

I am a big fan of their shrimp and garlic sauce, and have never had a problem. Tend to usually order the chicarrones de pollo, or the roast chicken(the chicken sandwich at $4.00 with garlic sauce, and fresh sliced roast chicken is one of the great NYC deals.

After fervishly redialing for one hour, was able to snag a reservaiton for Per Se for this evening. Just received a call saying they are closed due to an electrical problem. Any suggestions for 6 people dressed and ready to go? Will be dining there next week. Would you recommend going with the 9 course, or sticking with the five considering your experience. I hope this wont be my last dining experience there, so I am not looking at this as a once in a lifetime thing. would you expect the 5 course to be larger portions?

After passing it for years on Amsterdam Avenue, had a chance last night to go to Cooke's Corner. What a pleasant surprise. Although tables are on top of each other, and service was a little slow(will cut them some slack on that because it is v-day). Great reasonable priced food. Romaine salad with a creamy blue cheese dressing, well executed breast of chicken and burger. Nice cheese plate of Chatham Sheparding camembert, roasted figs and walnuts. Although no full bar, a nice glass of rose to accompany. Those dning next to us seemed pleased with their veal chop and shell steak as well Will definitely return.

My first trip to Lutece was when I was about 12. A friend of the family new of my interest in food, and wanted to encourage a burgeoning foodie. I had never before had pate, veal medallions or souffle. I can still remember each item vividly, even though it was over 25 years ago, including the large ship made out of bread that adorned the gueridon. It really was a revelation. I went back after hearing of imminent Andre Soltner's departure had a really lovely meal. The downstairs room was so beautful, but alas, belongs in another era.

I need to host a dinner for 14 people at a great steak house in Manhattan for a brithday dinner. Lugers will not accomodate more than ten on a Saturday evening(no matter how much I beg) Can folks weigh in on their favorite? I am presently considering Strip House or Michael Jordans. Agree on Celeste, have gone on the early side and usually been able to get in. They do a great job on their cheese course. I ate at Kitchen 82 the day after it opened and they did a good job, given how new it was. Good price value as well. I 3rd the notion of a les halles, balthazar type of place. It kills me to have to go downtown to get decent moules frites

I have to say, I have been happy with my meals at Nice Matin, but have never had the short ribs. They also make a great breakfast. I agree on Luxemborg that it is hit or miss, but my meal at cesca was good (great gnocchi). Compass is relaible, although service is spotty. I find on the upper west side that ethnic may be the way to go. You should try: Genaro for italian on Amsterdam, usually a wait, but go early or order in(they deliver) Sipan for peruvian. Really great ceviche. Pampa for steak(although no reservations) Alouette for french food. On the upper end of the spectrum, Picholine never disappoings. And of course their is nougatine and all the new restaurants at Time Warner. Although Ouest is a tough ticket, they do a good job of serving at the bar.
