    Onion Confit

Ok, I'm happy to show my ignorance here. What's an onion confit and what do you use it for?
  2. My next four would be: Clark Gable Cary Grant Henry VIII Mary Queen of Scots
  3. Elizabeth I, Erma Bombeck, Nick Nolte, Prince Andrew or perhaps Tiger Woods
  4. Russian Brown Cow 1 oz Vodka (higher quality the better) 2 oz Chocolate Milk Dash Creme de Cacao Shake and strain into frosted cocktail glass. Keywords: Cocktail ( RG856 )

  6. Remember that is takes untold more effort to open dishawasher and insert dish than it does to merely leave it on the counter. Like a bazillion calories. Trust me, as mom of three (make that four if one counts The One I Married). Yes, but think of the calories I'll expend harranguing them.(put dishes away, wipe up spills, put your clothes in the laundry basket, hang your coat up, do your homework and CLOSE THAT KITCHEN CUPBOARD DOOR! There's a much longer list, but I thought perhaps i might run out of room. And one always must count the man (men) we marry in the grown up kid category.
  7. Now that I've finally got my son trained to bring his plate back to the kitchen, next steps are to teach him where the garbage is to scrape it off, and then the location and operation of the dishwasher to put said plate in

    Dinner! 2004

Dinner has been a challenge this week. My son got his braces put on and with them came a number of eating restrictions, includng making sure he wasn't biting down with his front teeth and "tearing" at food. Soft foods have been the order of the week as his mouth is a touch sensitive anyway. Monday night was spagetti with garlic bread in small pieces Tuesday night was macaroni and cheese with a green salad a balsamic vinigrette dressing Tonight was spareribs in the slow cooker, with the meat taken off the bone for him and baked potatoes Tomorrow will likely be Red wine casserole, as I made this up a couple of days ago and it needs to sit for 48 hours, Friday will likely be thin crust pizza, cut up in bites for him, and Saturday will be honey garlic meatballs with garlic mashed potato puff. Sunday, I'm dining out, I don't care what the rest of them do

    Amma

I am back in Toronto. What a lovely day I had meeting Pan, Suzanne, and dumpling along with Pan's parents. Suvir, since I cannot compare it to any previous experience, I can only say that I truly enjoyed my first Indian meal. My husband adores Indian food, and I've suggested he visit you next time he is in New York. Thank you everyone for taking such good care of me. (Yes, tommy, I walked to Amma!). Other dining experiences over the weekend included dinner at the hotel, JW's steakhouse, it was undescribably bad), a light lunch at Langman's Pub, dinner at 21, and dinner at Peter Luger's on Long Island. We'll be back in New York soon I think!
  10. I'm here. And I can eat!
  11. Ha! Here I am, hanging out at Toronto Pearson airport. My flight is still on so far, although it's oversold, so I may or may not get on this one. Possibly the next one. I will however, be in New York somehow someway, tonight.
  12. Yeah. My flight got cancelled. I'm now leaving at 3:15 (maybe)
  13. Thanks. My flight has been delayed due to winds in NY
  14. Feel better soon!
  15. I'm headed for the airport in a couple of hours. After that, I'll be computerless unless they have such a thing as Internet Cafes in NY. Between the cute little map my husband drew me, Pan's and tommy's directions, and generally helpful New Yorkers, I'm fairly confident that I'll be able to find Amma on Friday Dumpling I have that recipe for you. Looking forward to seeing ya'll
  16. How can you not know what a corn dog is? Do you live under a rock? It is a hot dog coated in a corn meal batter and served on a stick. Go to your local grocery and get a box out of the freezer section. I just bought the Oscar Meyer brand and ate four. As to why anyone would crave one, I haven't a clue. That is why I started this thread. Yee-ah, an ignorance of corndogs sounds so preposterous as to be a certain affectation. Heck, folks who live under rocks are the most likely to subsist of a corndog-intensive diet. Please, Dr. Crane, you're not trying to impress anybody here. You don't have to like them; hell, weenie sausages are one of the few things even I won't eat if starvation isn't an issue. But denying knowledge of them is a sure sign of ludicrous snobbery. Ookie beekie one of us. Um, I didn't know what one was either. But then, we don't get a lot of this stuff in Canada. We have Pogo sticks. Are they close?
  17. When I was pregnant, I used to get a rice and soy sauce craving. 11 years later, it hasn't gone away I'll go on a rice and soy sauce binge till my family begs for mercy
  18. No one is going to want to follow this Your platings are amazing! I almost wish I were in SA.

    Dinner! 2004

I am a huge fan of the Carmenet wineries. The Dynamite Merlot, particularly the '99 if you can find it, is outstanding. The Cabernet Savignon is very nice too, but I prefer the Merlot. The LCBO no longer carries it here, so I get it imported from a wine broker by the case. There are very few wines I want to buy cases of Try it. You'll like it.

    Dinner! 2004

Very simple tonight, since I'm cooking for myself. NY strip steak, seared a cast iron frying pan, coated with a thin layer of mustard and some minced garlic. Baked potato. Since Suzanne so kindly pointed out to us that we were baking potatoes all wrong I thought I'd try it her way tonight. Hmm, no discernable difference in the end result from what I normally do. Topped with butter, sour cream, bacon bits and scallions. Served with a half bottle of 1999 Dynamite Merlot.
  22. Kitchener, ON, while outside of Toronto is predominately German, hence the Octoberfest held there every year

  24. Poor Monica Whatever you can keep down really. Saltines are good for a nauseous stomach and flat gingerale as well. Chicken broth, maybe some weak tea with honey?
