I love LE PRE VERRE , but it is uneven , had some fantastic lunches but also had tepid mashed potatoes and bland kidneys . I wonder if opening a restaurant in Tokyo is too much of a distraction for the DeLacourcelles brothers .

The Ningdu has very good ground pork pockets , and are very friendly House of Dosas also very good , but you must tell them that you MEAN hot , otherwise you get the caucasian hot (which is really not hot at all)

Pho Thai Luong seems to have gone , any ideas on good Northern Vietnamese pho places ?

Green Lettuce also does Indian chinese food at kingsway/Victoria sadly Pho Thai Luong seems to be gone

El Pulgarcito does tasty Pulgar is "thumb" in spanish

La Salza is going to be replaced by BURRITO EL REY , so we'll have to see Meanwhile El Pulgarcito is still quite good on Hastings/Nanaimo Me & Julio on the Drive still mostly crappy and overpriced

Making money is the easy part , keeping it is a lot harder for some

I fully agree with Canucklehead on Kingyo Izakaya , Fuel and Gingeri . Maybe also Come Along for dimsum on Kingsway . I would also recommend Pied A Terre (french bistro on cambie) and La Buca (italian on McDonald) , same owners , god prices , great food .

This year we went to Gastropod and Bistro Pastis , both were excellent , great food , regular size portions and very good service .

I'm with Karen on that , I always call restaurants for resos , you can ask any question you want and also get a good feel about the place .

Yes I bought a box at Xmas , they were delicious It's not really gentrification though , the store is on street level of some really ugly cheapo , soon to leak condos

Things have gone down obviously , I was there a couple of months ago and the crab cakes were wonderful to look at but cold and tasteless . The seafood and beans dish was mostly only beans and rice . Service was OK , not professional by any means but friendly . (the only server kept going for ciggie breaks right outside the front door )
