  1. never lived in NYC. grew up "down the shore". i have no concerns about driving.
  2. yes. indeed. do unto others. nope. she should have reacted in a totally human way...and she did. those beyond reproach... those beyond reproach.... indeed. we all have rights. and with those rights come responsiblilty to those around you. those beyond reproach... f*cking soapboxes. please....c'mon, y'all make me sick. walk a mile my friends...walk a mile, and then come and lay down some law. ugh. i wish i was (were) as perfect as our enlightened posters here on egullet. u silly b*stards. walk a mile.
  3. i'm picking up your sarcasm. :wow:
  4. of course it is. it's my opinion for christ's sake. and it was in no way meant as an insult to you, but rather as an opinion of how the thread has progressed. however, if your rather harsh words were meant to offend me or put me in a bad light, i would certainly not hesitate to say "fuck off."
  5. that's for sure. i just hope they don't sit next to me!
  6. i suppose we'll all be sleeping over at your place? :) the traffic going north even after dinner will be heavier than usual. probably a good case for a late lunch.
  7. i bet not. she will most likely forget about this little incident as time passes if she hasn't already. afterall, it was merely an emotional reaction during an emotional time. surely none of us are beyond reproach. surely.
  8. i'd be amazed if all of these people can tell me with a straight face that they've never once been moved enough about something to say something to a stranger. nonsense. we all have. and i g*ddamn know that if you didn't say something, you rolled your eyes and went "tck" or "sigghhh" loud enough so half the bus/room/whatever could hear, just as 90% of the population seems to do. yuck. "you", of course, doesn't mean anyone here in particular. just a general "you".
  9. lucky for whom?
  10. for the people who think that this woman was totally out of line, can i ask: what if you had a loved one who died 9/11 (and i'm sure some egulletters did), and it was 9/18 let's say, and someone next to you was making "jumping out of the WTC" jokes in a normal speaking voice, and it was suspected that your brother jumped from the 103rd floor, are you saying that you wouldn't feel compelled to say something, or in the very least you can't see how this woman might have been?
  11. ok, that took about a second. click me for an article on these odds
  12. i forget the exact math, but if you have 50 ppl in one room, the odds are extremely high that will will share the same birthday (not year of course). i'll try to find it on the web.
  13. i can hear people complaining already..."how dare they suggest that i tip so much blah blah blah blah blah"
  14. 2 or 4, tip included? i'd be interested in what types of places in the NYC you go to that would include the gratuity on a table of 2. common practice dictates the the "Total" line is, in fact ,the "total" and would include the included gratuity. otherwise the credit card slip would come back to the table with a number different than the "total." i'm pretty sure this wouldn't fly. i'm not sure i can picture what you're saying. the blank area for the tip is on the credit card slip. and the credit card slip wouldn't have an amount for the included gratuity, so of course they wouldn't be adjacent. they are on two completely different pieces of paper. never in egullet history has a thread attracted so many first time posters. and it's not even a very interesting thread. strange.
  15. do unto others. etc...
  16. i have no idea. it's metal and about 6 inches in diameter and it has a handle that you crank. lots o fun.
  17. thanks priscilla. at first i found that the solids weren't getting smashed up and liquified. but after a few goes, and putting some of the result back into the food mill, all of the solids went through. it's quite a neat device. i would eventually like to see a "food mill thread", describing some applications and approaches. and hopefully you purists out there will forgive my blatant over-saucing! but since it was my first go with the food mill, i wanted the sauce to take centerstage.
  18. is that the place by johnny and hanges?
  19. i don't see the need for an apology.
  20. it was ok. it might be viewable here, if you so desire. Click me. it wasn't as watery as it might look. the food mill is definitely something i need to use more often. thanks for the suggestions.
  21. if anything, i'm consistant.
  22. also, i'd like to add some cream to this sauce. is there a best way to do this? should it be cold? or room temp? add it at the end obviously. i guess by the time anyone responds i will have either a succussful or unsuccessful dish!
  23. sorry for the confusion, but i won't be attending. although i wish i were! and, i *always* bring flowers.
