    Dinner! 2002

    it's very zin-like. as opposed to zen-like.
  2. please don't insult cotton candy like that. cotton candy has been around forever, will remain around forever, and is part of our culture. the dots just plain suck. but yes, echoing your sentiment: you gotta have some set of balls to think you can improve ice cream!!

i have to wonder how many times you've drank beer that has been chilled and warmed and rechilled and had no idea you were doing so.
  4. i think frankie and johnnies is quite good. better than ruth's chris and river palm.
  5. they are pretty nasty.
  6. surely poking holes in it aids in the release of juice. perhaps i can test this theory on you tomorrow night. i'll bring a skewer.
  7. well, i made to to clixes, j&h, and goffle. it was the holy trinity. the bermuda triangle for diets. the three-peat, followed with "repeat." i had never been to clixes. i was pleased to see that it was more of a family operation than the other two. i'm guessing the owner was doing the cooking. i had one dog and put mustard on it. the dog was fatter than both j&h and goffle. it was deep fried, and had reasonble "snap." the only drawback was the bun to dog ratio: the bun was a bit too hefty for the dog. i'll go back though, as it's a pleasant oldschool experience overall. goffle. definitely *not* a family run type of place. kids behind the counter. horrible soda, unless i got a bum cup. the dog was slightly smaller (in diameter) than clixes, but offered a good bun to dog ratio. deep fried, and a little less crispy than clixes. good mustard. better mustard than clixes i think. f&h. even though it was the 3rd dog i had in 10 minutes, i found it to be the best. i do like this place. good bun to dog ratio. nice bite and snap on the dog. please note: clixes is having a special today (9/11) and tomorrow: hot dogs are 1 dollar. git yerself down there.

yes, for those not aware, there will mostly likely be a point during dinner, probably lasting somewhere around 3 hours, that nina will be demonstrating how she talks.

    BBQ in Houston

What a detailed and verbose report. Thanks. people know that i have good taste and therefore that comment should suffice. however, perhaps someone with extra time on their hands can describe the food. i, clearly, am a very busy man and have no time for such details.

    Skunk

heineken certainly does have a skunky flavor. but i think it's a style issue rather than a beer-gone-bad issue. bud, to me, never tastes skunky. i'm not sure i've ever actually had a truly "skunked" bottle of beer. god knows i've had many more beer bottles than wine bottles, but i've found a helluva lot more wines gone wrong.
  13. i loved dish when they first opened. i haven't been back in about 2 yrs however, and although i've heard they had some changes in the kitchen, i can't comment on how that might have affected the place. i will say that it's not for uptight folk. it's a bit loud, your server may have tattoos and piercings and be pretty easy going. i'd say if those concepts offend you, stay away. for me, i think it's brilliant.
  14. we appreciate your efforts.

to get back at the english for their silly f*cking way of saying "schedule."
  16. that's strange? my meals are generally based on the topic du jour on egullet. yesterday i read a steak thread and ended up at a steakhouse. i've been to more sushi places than i need to. and once someone mentions pasta, forget about it. oh dear, i just did.
  17. i think you need to try it again. at the very least so that i'm not the only person on this board who has an opinion on it.
  18. the damned place is always closed. i've *never* seen rutt's closed.

    Brown Butter

it's what happens when you're making clarified butter but you go off to check on egullet "real quick"...for 20 minutes. oops.
  20. and there goes my theory on the goffle grill dogs being smaller than ruts.
  21. i prefer johnny and hanges over goffle grill. and no, i just don't get that liquid brown sauce they all seem to refer to as "chili."

toys in the attic - aerosmith. oh, sorry, wrong thread.
  23. if i recall, goffle's dogs were smaller. as far as taste goes, it's hard to say with all of the mustard i put on. oh, and, rutt's mustard in exceptionally better imho. rutt's is also largely kid-free. and they have beer.
