    Ming Tsai

    he truly is.
  2. Nov 6th. info here.
  3. What on earth is Mr. Allegruci talking about? What does "equivalency" mean? All Napas are equal, but some are more equal that others? seems like he means that he wouldn't mind seeing more tourism in his area.
  4. "should" in your circles perhaps. others don't care to follow "rules", and if they can afford it, well, who's to pass judgement. i bet it was tasty. your friend is clearly one of good taste.
  5. yeah, i gotta jump on the bandwagon. and i *did* go twice in one week without thinking about it. i'll be posting notes on a few more places in the coming days. but that beef at Il Ritrivo is worth going to Florence for on its own.
  6. i don't like it when companions talk about other people. and i really don't like it if they don't let me taste what they're eating!
  7. craig, on your rec we ate here the other night. the best meal yet. whats the name of the torture device in the pic? more to follow, obviously.
  8. I second that. If I want them to keep it, I'll say. hehe. there's a korean restaurant in midtown manhattan that tried this with me and a friend. the manager and server got an earfull, needless to say, and we've never returned.

that's a great report FG. i'm looking forward to ordering mine off the broiler. although i may skip the cutting bit.

    The Wine Clip

mr. clip might want to brush up on his marketing. i didn't read that as a joke, and i'm pretty sure others didn't either.
  11. yup. right in downtown summit. mrs. tommy and i will be in summit one morning the week of nov 3rd, and we were planning on having lunch there. if that works for some others, we'd love to meet up.
  12. right. there's a "correct" way handling this. and that, i believe, is to wait til all diners are done before clearing.
  13. This seems completely illogical considering they don't know who made their food in the first place. (where's the perplexed emoticon?) there's *some* logic here, as the people preparing the food are food-handlers by nature. whereas servers are servers and often money handlers.
  14. iirc, redeye grill doesn't have a raw bar. you might want to double check that though. Docks has a smallish raw bar, but nothing close to the selection of Aquagrill, Oyster Bar, or even Blue Water Grill. it's got a very midtowny corporate feel to me, and i'll often go for lunch, but rarely dinner.

IIRC, from the 2 days i worked at BK, we were told to never nuke the mayo, as there was this thought that it would kill you. i suppose they've relaxed that rule.
  16. i'm pretty sure it's every night. at the very least, it's pretty much all week nights. a prix fixe of 60 bucks gets you dinner and all of the wine you can drink out of a selection of 4. the wines generally include a sparkling, a white, and 2 reds in my experience. this is available after 8 pm. info here. one of the entrees is french fries, which comes with a side order of filet mignon. although that's an old joke by now, it still makes me smile. the wines aren't oustanding in my estimation, but it's certainly fun for a group. i usually go once a year around the holidays for business dinner/celebrations.
  17. i don't hate Blue Water grill (but only for oysters). and the outside seating during warm weather can be nice.

i was tempted to suggest that any place where you can't order a temp should be ignored. however, that would count out Sally's Sliders and some others. i'm torn.
  19. what a minute. that sounds exactly like the sante fe thing.
  20. that's probably the equivalent of me pouring a 30 cent martini down my gullet. i'm guessing hers was better.

perhaps egullet could start a PR/marketing firm to show them how it's done.

1/ you should know by now that i'm a man of many talents. and they have a big sign out front. 2/ i don't recall the place being an italian bistro. you might be thinking of that Piazza place, which is still there, and still horrible. 3/ i'm not. in fact, with the recent talk on egullet, i'm itching to go back.

and why is that descriptor different than a million others that restaurants use?

i don't think they're open yet. it used to be a bar/restaurant called "american grill" or something along those lines. that place hasn't been open for some time now. Must be an Italian place. this places looks like it might be interesting. it's one of the few places in ridgewood with a liquor license, which is good and bad i suppose.
