  1. in advertising, it don't matter. they could put *my* face up there and with the line "tommy, great cook, knows good food", and it would probably have similar results. that's half the advertising battle. but they didn't call me, they called rick. but it doesn't hurt to have someone that actually *is* famous up there.
  2. you haven't seen my wine.
  3. i think the audience isn't those who are very familiar with rick, and particularly his association with the CC. i think, rather, the audience is the people who might know that he's "sort of famous." as in, "hey! i think i saw that guy on some cooking show once. he knows what he's talking about!" fast food companies, and most companies one might argue, don't advertise, and one could even argue that they don't *have* to advertise, to the educated consumer. Sy Syms is the obvious exception. edited to spell "educated" correctly.
  4. but you'll concede that there *will* be a difference, yes?
  5. you haven't seen my pipe.

    NJ snow

so getting there shouldn't be a problem. getting home, however...
  7. i'm considering wrapping copper wire around a metal pipe (drilled with a hole or two of course) and connecting the wire ends to an AC outlet, and sucking the wine through that. this should clearly enhance my wine drinking experience.
  8. can i assume most of you are staying home tonite and tomorrow? i had plans tomorrow night, but i'm thinking they're a washout at this point. tonite we're grilling (indoors) steaks. tomorrow morning will be mushrooms and egg, inside of a cup made of ham, and mimosas. any plans in the making or breaking?
  9. "an alternative to aerating wine by swishing it around in your mouth or sucking in air with a mouthful of liquid." yes yes, taking air into your mouth has proven to be difficult for millions.

    is this a decanter?

i do believe it might be.

    is this a decanter?

i agree. it's my opinion that most decanters are useless, save the sentiment issue and the initial sloshing of the wine into the thing. to quote the great Willie Gluckstern, "You will need two widemouthed, liter-size, indestructible bistro carafes - not the delicate crystal from your grandmother's china cabinet. A major California wine producer (who sells no wine before is time) markets his modest product in just such a carafe for about $3 or $4. The "wine" may be gently decanted into the sink: it's the glass you want."

right. and i'm guessing that number was pretty high. the local news in the NYC area carried at least 3 or 4 stories iirc.

    is this a decanter?

that made more sense than anything i've ever heard, probably in my entire life. thanks everyone. i think i know what to do with it: leave it on the shelf where it's been for the last 3 years while forgetting it's there even when i need something for wine or flowers or water.

    is this a decanter?

i think it's technically a carafe. now i'm really confused.

    Fried Turkey

allstate has an ad on yahoomail. it says that x number (i think it was a coupa hundred thousand) people deep fried turkey last thanksgiving, and 15 managed to burn down their homes.

    is this a decanter?

no stopper as far as i know. and it'll decant alright. although i haven't measured its volume. it would appear to be, however, about 750 ml. which i suppose might be more than coincidence.

    is this a decanter?

i've got this thing from william yeoward (on the left in the below pic). mrs. tommy tells me it's a decanter. i'm not convinced, and i think it's for flowers or something silly. does anyone know for sure? their website doesn't seem to have it, and i'm going out of my mind googling looking for the image. for comparative purposes, i've also pictured something that i'm reasonably sure *is* a decanter. any help would be appreciated. this fight is getting out of hand.
  18. swiffer. i've been meaning to get one of these things. for my wife.

but the 15.50 burger is 15.50. the situation at the landmark is unfortunate. i'd be upset if i ordered a 15.50 burger and was charged 20 for it. this, to me, has nothing to do with an expense account or the value in the burger.

20 bucks for a meal is absolutely out of hand.

Worth it if you're on an expense account? i bet it's worth it if you have $15.50.
