i parked in a lot around the corner for a few hours and it was about 35 dollars. i don't recommend that. i would, however, recommend parking at the Port Authority lot (one of the least expensive options in midtown, save meters), and walking across or taking the E or something silly like that. this assumes you're coming from NJ.
  2. WHAT? How big is your kitchen? 50x50ft.? hardly. yeah, i thought it was absurd.
  3. 3 months later, and i've taken fresco's advice. my painter tells me that it will be 700 to do the cabinets with oil-based paint. it's a go. there's no way in hell 700 isn't worth the aggravation of tackling it myself. of course, once the cabinets are painted, the floor will look even *more* like shit. i just hope this doesn't snowball. speaking of snowballing, i got a ridiculous estimate for removing the overhead fluorescent and replacing with 6 high hats. somewhere around 3k if i recall correctly. 950 for the lights, and 2k to remove the (plaster) ceiling and replace with sheetrock. a friend assures me that he could do it for a few dinners and some wine.

  9. and the main point is that he's a shameless pimp. i think that's been pretty well covered.

itch, when using google, do try to put phrases in quotes. for example, i'd search on '"Christian Moueix" "tasting notes"' for some tasting notes from random people. you're right about bordeaux being the region. and merlot is the predominant grape. although you'll more often than not not see the variety on the label of french wines.
  11. i just threw that in there to keep it civil. of course he did. but BK isn't unique in this regard.
  12. Just out of curiosity, why would one have faith in Burger King; that is, faith that BK would have its consumers' best interests at heart rather than its own bottom line? aside from charitable organizations, i really don't think there are many companies that don't put the interests of their shareholders before much else. i don't think that BK is an exception here. and i don't think their marketing tactics are much different than other companies who rely on brand awareness. and sam is right. but these new sandwiches are not the first of their kind. i'll bet that you won't see them on the menu in a few years, just as all of the products that have been introduced and pulled over the years. although, they do seem to offer salads after all of this time. you know, that healthy green stuff (as long as you don't use that packaged dressing! )

A tasty treat? A big hunk of mac & cheese, battered and deep fried. that sounds pretty good. i've got some frozen mac and cheese, which i'd normally pan fry. perhaps i'll reconsider.
  14. i don't think it's a lack of consideration as much as it is a lack of understanding. i know some very thoughtful and wonderful and considerate people who don't understand crowd dynamics.

    no fucking way.
  16. pork roll, taylor ham, all good. why don't you go to the RP in Fairlawn instead. the road isn't as hilly!
  17. that's a nice taylor ham to egg ratio. but what's with the ketchup?

    is this a decanter?

i was wondering why you'd want to "stop" wine in a decanter to begin with. i can see why you'd want it for spirits though.
  19. just tonite i got "fishy" from canola oil. sure, it tastes and smells like nothing, but when it hit that hot cast iron pan, boom. fish. and i don't even use that pan to cook fish.
  20. you have a valid point. but you also seem to have little faith in consumers and in Bayless. not to mention burger king. that's not to say your suspicions are wrong, but, you know.
  21. but what if BK knew he'd give that money to charity and they figured they'd do something nice. but yeah, a waste of money. but so is most advertising, methinks. you can't tell me that budwieser is selling 5 million more a year in beer because of its ads during the superbowl. however, that's a bit different, as they are also advertising to stay in the public conscience. it's hard to look at advertising and say "that was worth it". it's a very dynamic and complicated equation.

Tommy, How does one make a cup made of ham? Nancy and I are sitting here guessing all kinds of ways - we want to know YOUR way! Randi i saw it on Sara Multon's (sp?) show. i have to admit, it's fun and tasty. saute sliced mushrooms. add tarragon and a bit of sour cream or creme fraiche. place a slice of virginia ham in a non-stock muffin pan (well, in the muffin part), forming a "cup". fill with mushrooms. crack egg on top. in the oven at i suppose 350 for 8 or 10 minutes, or until the egg sets. viola. i serve these (2 a person generally) with a thick slice of toasted country style bread, rubbed with garlic. it has been a big hit, and is super simple. susan, i like your style. steaks and red wine tonite.
  24. Cook's Tour wasn't a series of public service announcements? If nothing else, Tony has very much done something along these lines. of course tony has done a lot to raise awareness of food and travel: of a particular segment of the population. you can draw your own conclusions as to whether those folks are frequenting fast food restaurants. edit: it seems matthew beat me, and included a wacko face. damn that wacky matthew.
