Not that it matters since you solved the dish problem but there was (and possibly still is) a restaurant near where my mom lived that served their Coquilles St. Jacques in crepes. It was used to fill the crepes which were topped with more of the sauce and some gruyere and tossed under the broiler. Not traditional but they were tasty.

Pizza = handheld and tasty. Cookies = handheld and tasty. Pizza = Cookies.

I looked through the fridge and freezer trying to decide what to have with the corn on the cob I was going to cook for dinner. Then it occurred to me that a second ear of corn might be the perfect thing to accompany an ear of corn... and that was dinner. Well, the two ears of corn and the piece of bread I used to butter the corn.

Inspired by the ladies in Manitoulin, I opened my cabinet for the first time in a long time, knocked the dust off of a few bottles and made use of that orange I finally remembered to buy... ...and it was every bit as good as I remembered. Now I have to do some catching up on those tasty-sounding Rafa creations.

What did you buy at the liquor store today? (2016 - )

I haven't bought anything in a long time but it's recently come to my attention that the LCBO now offers online shopping within Ontario. They'll ship orders over $50 to your local store free of charge or ship orders of any size to your mailbox for $12. I'm going to try to continue to avoid temptation. -
I'm going with "doesn't survive"... your love for the Mai Tai is well documented. I'm right there with you on enjoying that one but far lazier than you when it comes to getting around to making them. Unfortunately.
-
Doesn't keep or doesn't survive? A fine but important distinction... is it going bad quickly or being enjoyed quickly? Because the second one isn't a bad thing.

I recognize those tortillas. That distinct browning pattern can only be from once source. A Mexican nun gathers the ingredients in the evening, makes the tortillas by hand during the night and delivers them via bicycle in the morning. You can only get them on the third Thursday of the month during July, August and September. If she doesn't deliver to your area, it's probably better to just not eat tortillas at all.

I may make use of it once. I still need a bottle of Benedictine, it seems to come up a lot in drinks that sound tasty. Then of course I have to add something else to get to the $50 minimum for free shipping to my store. See... this is the slippery slope I worry about.

I really have to get around to trying that one. While on the booze subject, the LCBO appears to have added online ordering to it's website. They'll ship to your local store for free (minimum $50 purchase) or to your mailbox for $12. There was a time when I really wished they did that. Now that I've been behaving myself in regards to adding things to the cabinet that I very rarely take anything out of, I really hope that doesn't turn out to be a very bad thing for me...

The fact remains that what you said is entirely true. Homemade is better. Even the "cheater" homemade using store-bought almond milk is better. But sometimes I'm not cocktail dedicated enough to completely overcome my laziness.
-
I agree homemade is better but I don't drink enough for a small improvement in quality to outweigh convenience. If some event or something is going to have me using enough orgeat to be worth the trouble, I'll make a batch. Otherwise, I just use BG Reynolds and call it good enough.

Not sure if there will be one for me tonight or not... but there will be one at some point this weekend.

Just as a quick, and not particularly relevant to the discussion at hand, note... I did not forget my orange this morning.

Yeah, that one's more a fruit salad than a barley sandwich but it's not bad. As you said, very refreshing on a hot summer day.

I didn't get The Donald when I saw it, I kept waiting for it to start singing "It's not unusual to be loved by anyone..."
-
Me neither. I use it on fish/seafood Po Boys and with fried green tomatoes and various other things of that nature... never had it or even seen it on a salad.

I was going to argue that it sounds tasty but I feel like it needs some sort of cannabis or, at the very least, hemp aspect to truly warrant the name. That I might have even given a free pass to absinthe on this one just to play on the whole psychoactive substance thing because that entire movie was based around the marijuana he dropped at the crime scene. I was going to say I just don't get Pineapple Express without some form of a nod to it. My disclaimer was going to be that I didn't particularly love the movie and I have no personal interest in marijuana so maybe I'm being a little too critical here. And then, about halfway through typing all of that, it dawned on me that alcohol is a psychoactive substance and I just felt silly.

Too many little green apples and adventure may not be all that's on the wind. I remember as a kid sneaking young green apples off of a neighbor's trees while visiting my grandparents. They could do some damage to the guts when I was too greedy with them.

Which has now inspired me. I think between this and Anna's shrimp and corn fritters, I might be able to finish off the shrimp in the freezer.
-
I think they're awesome too.

Why would you waste the bowl? You break off and eat the soup-infused bowl as the level of soup inside decreases. It wasn't the bread bowl that threw me off, it was the cheese. I can't say I've ever been eating corn chowder and thought "this would be better with cheese". But I won't knock it because I haven't tried it.

I confess, I had to google it... but yes I do. That couldn't have been a better fit if it'd been written with my pizza in mind.
