  1. What do you mean, "in the business." I have been trying to figure out Foodtv's philosophy for months now. They are "the business," though I still have no idea of their philosophy. Some people think they're trying to gain new viewers. I don't see how they can accomplish that by straying from the original formula which built a good-sized audience. I think the Emeril sit-com gave them delusions of a network-tv style audience. They will never get that audience because they are about Food. That's it. All their new shows are combining "survivor" with pot roast 101 using some host with no real food experience resulting in some mediocre attempt at infood-tainment (sorry). People who want to watch thrilling shows with half naked 19 year-olds are not going to watch Gordon Elliot hug some Italian grandmother who just baked a lemon cake. They might watch half-naked Nigella do that, but for different reasons that Foodtv should address. That is the direction Foodtv should be going! She can actually cook, too! To the post below: Scripps Broadcasting (HGTV, DIY, etc.) bought Foodtv in 1997. They have been phasing out the shows not produced by themselves since their purchase of the network. .
  2. Actually, she's from New Orleans. Her name is Mary Lou Conroy. She did a show on TLC years ago with some big guy who made pizzas... the sperm was from a carp. Julia and PBS is great with cooking shows. Remember "Dinner at Julia's"? That was the show that got me hooked on cooking shows! You'll learn more with the "Bam" man and Oliver than "Unwrapped" and "Food Finds" ,etc.... but you knew that. The show with Nina and Alan was a great laugh! Hey, it was better than "Best of" They actually gave critical info on the restaurant. And at least Nina knew the word "cooking" was pronounced "cooking" and not "cook-een" or going "go-een" or topping "top-een" or eating "eat-een" etc.... you get the idea.
  3. I absolutely agree! I am so sea-sick from the "Blair Witch Project" camera work and the "VH1" info force-feed, I'm starting to dismiss it as a Taste replacement. There is nothing original or hip to this show. Why they can't air Taste at 4:30 am instead of "Galloping Gourmet" or even 9:00 am instead of paid-programming, I don't understand. They used to air it, but what happened to Julia Child, anyway? Why does this network insist on mediocratizing its shows making it's core viewership angry? First we lose Chef du Jour. Then we lose Taste. Then In Food Today is gone. After that, no more Julia Child. Perhaps it is the agribusinesses like RJR Nabisco, Clorox (Hidden Valley Ranch etc.), Proctor & Gamble, etc. who are the big advertisers on the network and want us to buy their convenience foods --or eat out. When will we see ad's for McDon...'s and Burger Ki..? Perhaps the execs. at Foodtv think people interested in Food are bored with cooking shows. How do they know? Now it appears we have lost East Meets West, A Cook's Tour, and Ming's Travel's. What were these shows, which obviously increased the viewership to Foodtv, replaced with? Unwrapped, 30-min. meals, Keith Famies Adventures, $40 a Day, Food Finds, Ultimate Kitchens. Save the "entertainment" for ESPN or MTV. If they're looking to gain audience from those networks, or in general, as hinted at by some posters, they are shovelling sh** against the tide. Those viewers do not care about food. They care about sports and skimpily-clad teenagers. They do like Taco-Be.. and McDon..'s and ... you get the idea. Food TV, change the name of the network --AGAIN. You can't have food without cooking. Think about it. We have been sold out, again.
