  3. I am not an Italian American ala Olive Garden (YKKKKK) fan of Carbonara but the on NO RESV looked freaking sick (good sick that is). Anyone have a recipe for that as well, authentic as possible of course... How can I get a hold of that episode, on demand or web?
  4. Was watching TONY B on No Reservation's tonight and he was eating cacio y pepe in a supposed secret location in ROMA, what is the name of this place? Anybody know? I NEED TO KNOW NOW!!! Furthermore anyone have a knockout recipe for cacio y pepe? Who makes the best cacio y pepe in NYC?
  5. Still bothered from last night. I am writing to you all for your opinion. Was at a very popular BBQ place in Brooklyn (will leave nameless for now) that sells meat by the pound. In addition to my brisket and pork belly order, I ordered a 1/2 pound of raw house-cured bacon. I have ordered this before and loved, loved, loved it. On my last order of the bacon, they sliced the meat long and thick, ala Peter Luger's (fried up, it was unreal). Now this time, the BBQ slicer/counter guy called the back of the house guy and summoned the bacon. It weighed 1lb so he cut the rectangle in half, making 2 squares, one of which was supposed to be mine. Well, who orders a 4"x5" block of raw BACON that when sliced up and cooked would be nothing more than niblets. Still wanting the goodness I acquiesced and watched as he began to wrap the block unsliced. I said "Bud, could you slice that?" He said "NO" straight out. I was like WTF, are you F-ing kidding me? The bacon sells for $10.50 a pound, which to me is a price that warrants slicing if I so choose. My favorite butcher, Fiacco's in Brooklyn, charges $5.99 a pound and we all know the Oscar Meyer stuff is $3-$5 a pound. Back to the counter guy, so after he said "NO" he said "Why, you can't slice it yourself," to which I replied "No, for the price I would like it sliced." He said, "Can't do it." I said, "Don't want it." I ate my cue, which was amazing, but was bothered by the attitude and still am. Shouldn't the paying customer have a legitimate say? Am I way off here people? What's up with these BROOKLYNY HIPSTER attitudes? FYI: I will attempt a bacon purchase again and will preface my wants and needs. Sad I didn't have it this AM when I woke up.
  6. No I have not...Should I ? Is that authentic italian?
  7. Off with my head if I missed this already but I am looking for the best Peking Duck in NYC, you know, one of those crispy oil dripping golden beacons of flavor. I don’t care if you think its Daniel's Duck Ala Press or some dumpy whole in the wall MSG Shack. Post away people, I am salivating already….(post the price if you know it)
  8. Ok my 88 year old (soon to be 89) Grandfather has been buying panettone on Bleecker Street in Manhattan his whole life, he goes to either Bruno's (no longer there, now in Staten Island where he lives) and or Rocco's. As the years goes by he is getting crabbier and keeps saying "it’s not the way it used to be", he is done with both Rocco’s & Bruno’s. He is looking for an authentic dense, fruit filled and moist Genovese style (not Milanese) Panettone. No box suggestions please either. I will travel with him wherever. HELP!!!
  9. Tell us about this amazing deal...What do we get?
  10. Hi Egulleters, I need help in a hurry, my girlie and I are heading down to the Food Network SOBE Wine Food Festival in Feb and I need help on choosing an event, I am tossed between two. I can only pick one and my choices are: Perrier-Jouët BubbleQ hosted by Tom Colicchio & Friends http://www.sobewineandfoodfest.com/2009/vi...ts.php?event=38 or Fontainebleau Miami Beach presents Wine Spectator’s “Best of the Best" sponsored by Bank of America http://www.sobewineandfoodfest.com/2009/vi...nts.php?event=5 Both sound amazing and I just don't know what to do... Please help me decide, I need to ASAP... Thanks again all...!!!
  11. I have this cool idea/desire? Would it be acceptable this Friday Oct 31 Halloween night to go to fine dining or trendy restaurant like NOBU in my pajamas for dinner? I would go dressed as this because it’s Halloween of course, very comfortable and when the heck can you go to a NOBUesque restaurant in your pjs? If not pajamas is it acceptable to go in a costume at all?
  12. Ok people I did what I felt was almost the hopeless and expensive task of getting tickets to the NYC FOOD & WINE FESTIVAL BURGER BASH in Brooklyn Friday night...If you have been under a rock here it is: http://www.nycwineandfoodfestival.com/2008...ts.php?event=91 NOW...I am surprising my girlie with the tickets and she is a stickler on dressing to the occasion, what the heck do I tell her to wear? I mean its a "Burger" event, jeans and sneakers come to mind but then again its should be celeb studded being the Marquee Event of the whole festival. Should I dust off the Brioni sports coat and cufflinks...HELPPPPPPP!!! Your opinions would be greatly appreciated...I will update this post after the event on what we wore with pics and all if anyone cares...
  13. I had dinner alone last night @ Urban Rustic in Williamsburg, was quite delicious (turkey meatloaf, unreal rustic mashed potatoes and a squash succotash [that was a bit salty]. I really like the place immensely as well as their concept and what they stand for however I think the help there really is poor. I asked if certain items were good and for the them to digress a bit and all I got was a bunch of blah/ its organic it’s good. It seems as though the staff is not passionate as the cook staff, just regular ol hipsters at the helm with non careless attitudes. What do you guys think? In no way am I bashing the quality or food...

  15. Tripe is one of my favorite dishes. Its rare to find it cooked to perfection because I feel the first step which is the most difficult is cleaning it properly. If not cleaned properly it will never taste right. While having dinner with friends at A Voce in NYC (UNREAL PLACE) a couple of months ago I saw and jumped at the tripe on the menu. It was the best I have ever had (homemade and commercial). I asked how it was cleaned and the waiter promptly answered its bleached three times before cooking. Does anyone know what this technique of bleaching is? I am sure its no clorox bath. I really appreciate the responses!!!
  16. I am enjoying the conversation here on egullet but on egawker I am getting hammered for my shitty writing (yes I it was not well done, I just wanted to quickly converse) and many other things. If the people actually read the whole post they would see I have decided to try the place again. No I am no troll and have no purpose here on egullet but to converse....I also have no chicken franchise opening anywhere soon…
  17. Well the beauty of a forum is to talk and see what other people think and how they would react. The verdict people is... “NO I HAVE NOT REPORTED OR CALLDED THE HEALTH DEPT” I am thinking that maybe I should give this place another shot during the week for takeout or just wait till the weather is more permitting for outdoor dining. Maybe I am giving Pies 'N" Thighs an unfair poke and should be shunning the connected Rockstar Bar instead... Hmmm (Scratching My Head)
  18. I can't understand that nobody agrees… People this was really gross a lit cig was hanging from the bartender’s mouth and a cat walking on a bar where people eat…The cat was seconds from walking two inches from my plate...Its ok to agree and disagree but I am talking MAJOR health code violations not minor…
  19. After reading articles in the NYT and newly published one in NYMAG I was real interested in making a trek from Brooklyn Heights to the artsy/bohemian/hipster Williamsburg to try pies/donuts & fried chicken @ Pies 'n' Thighs. My girl and I had a bit of trouble finding the hidden place. My navigation in my car got me there but I still needed to search on foot. I walked into a bar with no signage (Rock Star Bar) to ask where this chicken joint was and was directed to the back of the bar where there was a line of four people. It was real hole in wall (this excited me like I discovered something and it wasn’t packed like Bubby’s); there wasn’t room enough for ten people in the area including the two people behind the counter. There is a weekend menu which disappointed me (no fried chicken or most other delectables). I settled on an egg hash for me and a chicken cutlet on a biscuit for my girl. I was told to go back into the bar and my food would be brought to me. While we waited we had the delicious $2 donut (sinfully good) at the bar. Here is where the whole thing hit the rocks BIG TIME. Rockstar bar had the nerve to have a bartender serve drinks while having a lit cigarette hanging out of her mouth. This is to me is really gross. I am not against smoking but A) its illegal in NY & B) its so outrageously gross while serving the public. I took a big gulp of air and said let me shutup because the food will be worth it and I don’t want to piss anyone off. The other seven patrons in the place seemed happy eating. Alas the food arrived at our section of the bar. We began eating and sadly felt the food was mediocre at best, in no means was it bad but nothing worth hunting for like say Silvia’s in Harlem. As we continued to eat and converse I saw a black CAT walking around. Ok, now I was grossed to a new level in which I never had been at a restaurant or bar. Animals in a restaurant/bar are in no way or level excusable. I also had thoughts that the cat is there for rat or mice control. So ok now I am grossed on two levels, yes it got way F-ING worse. The cat jumped on the bar where people were eating and was played with by the artsy/bohemian/hipster patrons. As the cat came close to me the cigarette smoking bartender started aggressively making kissing noises and petted it. I said to my girl grab your coat we are outta here (we left a full Blue Moon beer and all the food). All I could think was a cat was snooping around the kitchen and pantry at night and eating scraps during the day. My girl said she felt like she was eating cat hair (she hadn’t literally). I am so upset that I think I am going to call the health dept on Monday at some point. What do you guys think? Anyone from Pies ‘n” Thighs want to comment? I look fwd to your responses… Pies 'n' Thighs 351 Kent Avenue (entrance on South Fifth Street), Williamsburg, Brooklyn; (347) 282-6005.

  21. Very cool, thanks I will try my to squeeze in !!!
  22. No @ The Gramercy Hotel is The Rose Bar and Jade Bar not "The Anchor"...Unless I am missing something....
