    Sonic Drive-In

I once ate at one in Arizona. I did not like it and would never give it another chance. Had a burger and onion rings. Both were awful.
  2. I appreciate all the info posted. I'm looking into buying my first dishwasher and this discussion has been very helpful. Thanks!
  3. I've stored mine two different ways. When I first got them I'd roll them up and stick them in a plastic bag and secure with a rubberband. Now I hang them to dry and and store them using a pant hanger with rubber padded grippers. I flip them to let each side dry.
  4. Tommy Burger, the only burger you eat once then it eats you twice.... the chili grease that is. Still it was gooooood. I remember going to the one at Beverly and Rampart as a kid with my parents. Sliding open the lid on the metal cooler and grabbing a glass bottle of chocolate milk. Tommy burger extra chili no pickles or a tamale with chili? It was always a tough decision. Haven't had one in years. Mmmmmm...... maybe I should.
  5. I won't put anything, not even my purse, in the critter seat knowing full well that there isn't much of a difference between the seat and rest of the cart where some mother has plopped her remaining kidlets in the basket along with her groceries. I just put hope in the belief "That which does not kill me makes antibodies!"
  6. I've had them both and this So. Cal. gal votes for In-N-Out! Double meat, no cheese, with grilled onions is the best! Their fries do suck even if you do order them well done. Not a shake person unless it's a Date shake from Hadley's.
  7. I've got two sets of the 3 Pyrex nesting bowls and bought the larger 4th bowl for each set. Love them. I also have a cheap set of 5 plastic mixing bowls that have held up over the years. They've got this great double lip on them.
  8. mayo - Best Foods sugars - C & H a/p flour - Gold Medal ketchup - Hunt's fish sauce - 3 Crabs cake mix (when scratch isn't possible)- Duncan Hind's
  9. Another fan here. Mama introduced me to her books and I still use her dog-eared copies. Yes, her gingerbread is the best and I buy a bottle of Steen's just to make it.
  10. I refuse to choose. They all have their merits. I would also have to add aebleskivers to the list too. They were always a special treat when my mama would fire up the two cast iron pans. Light round balls under a cloud of powdered sugar and eaten with jam or my favorite lemon curd. Orange marmalade or cherry preserves were good too. Once again...I refuse to choose.
  11. Daddy's side of the family called them "One Eyed Jacks". Mama's side called them "Hen's Nests". I use both.
  12. Depends on the food. I underbowl soups because it forces me to be more careful of drips. I overbowl pasta and green salads because twirling pasta or composing a bite of salad can flip off sauce or dressing no matter how careful I am.
  13. Found this site today. http://www.dedemed.com/index.php/Vegetaria...uce-Recipe.html They have videos to go along with the recipes.
  14. This has to be the "secret garlic sauce" they made at Zankou's Chicken which is a small So. California roasted chicken chain but their sauce is blindingly white. I say made and not make because it's changed since they started putting it in foil sealed cups. The taste is more pre-fab now and not as good. Thanks for the recipes!
  15. They also make good icecream sandwiches.
  16. I spied with my little eye...... Mother's Cookies back on the shelf here in So. Cal.!!!!!! Taffy Cookies (2 went into the cart) English Tea Iced Oatmeal Iced Animal Cocadas (but not the really good coconut ones) They are distributed by Kellogg's. Theres a blurb on the package "Your Favorites Are Back!" ......Thank God!
  17. I miss Archway's soft molasses cookies. I hope we will find them on the shelves again here in Los Angeles. I have 4 packages of Mother's Taffy cookies in the freezer along with 6 loaves of La Brea Bakery's Fruit Nut Loaf. At least the bread will be available again in the fall. I saw Beaman's Gum back on the shelf. Time to stock up again!
  18. A friend gave up fast food for Lent. Her criteria was that if the business had a drive through window it was fast food. I know my quip doesn't add much to the topic but I couldn't resist.
  19. I have one and Ive never worn it. It was a gift and it rests on the bottom of the stack of the long sleeved denim shirts I wear when I cook.

    Honey

When I lived in Arizona, a guy at my grandmothers church harvested one he called "cotton". Oh so good. Now that I'm back in California I like Trader Joe's Mesquite Honey. I don't mind if it crystallizes either. I just spread it on.
  21. I'd save my knives and grab a steak, a potato or two, and a bottle of wine on the way out. I'd just snap a branch off the tree skewer my steak on it then shove it in the ground next to what was my home after I've buried my potatoes in the embers. I'd sip some wine while waiting for supper.
  22. Santa is expecting Jameson 1780 and a cheese and cracker plate. He didn't mention the reindeer. Guess they fly better on a light stomach.
  23. If I Take In-N-Out out of the mix I would eat Taco Bell over any major burger chain. That's if I had to chose a major chain fast food place. Since we have several Alberto's stands (small but good chain), hundreds of other hole in the wall mexican places, and also wagons/carts here in So. Cal. I never have to settle for Taco Bell.
  24. Like Pax said "If it's not worth it, why put it in my mouth?" If it doesn't taste good I won't eat it. There are many things I don't care for anymore but I don't consider my self a food snob I just have a cleansed and better educated palate. I stopped buying a lot of pre-fab foods food several years ago when I adopted my own style of portion control. I decided that if I was only going to have a small amount it better be good, made from real ingredients, and from scratch when possible. Not eating and buying all the "regular crap" opened me up to more flavorful choices. After some time passed I would try one of my old favorites I could taste how lacking or overpowering it really was. All that being said, I do confess to once or twice a year enjoying a very toasted frosted strawberry pop tart with butter on both sides. There are a few other things I still enjoy. I'd rather eat Corn Nuts than potato chips. I'll eat an In-N-Out burger, Popeye' s chicken, but not other fast food. I'd rather have a carnitas taco with fresh salsa off a cart than Taco Bell. Some "Secret Indulgences" I don't like anymore... Entenmans' Cheese Danish (still like their Louisiana Crunch cake), Butterfingers, Cheetos.
  25. Nothing like hot peach pie drenched with unwhipped heavy cream for breakfast! MMMMMMM!!!!!! Lunch today was a turkey sandwich with Branston Pickle. I made a second turkey last Tuesady.
