speaking of Giada's 'heaving breasts' ..... I hadnt seen her for a while and when i tuned in the other day ....first thing i noticed was that her tiny little chest was now 'heaving breasts' ..... i did a double take..... is this just my mistake? or has anyone else noticed the 'enhancement'? honestly.... she was nearly flat as a board..... is this something the food network requires now? LOL

I love this time of year because of the special beers for the winter season. I'd love to know do you have a favorite? I am trying to make a list of seasonals to buy before they disappear. so .... whats your pleasure?

Hi thanks for your post...i am living in henderson waaaay up boulder hwy. i have lived in vegas before so i thought i'd give it a go again since the weather is cooling now. i know people are probablly hesitant to give local recs here for fear that the place will be overun. i understand that so i figure i will have to search out things on my own. as far as something like a great pastry shop or a properly done baguette...that would be a help if anyone can suggest where to go. i am assuming i will have to go to bouchon's pastry shop for that. and i can manage to hunt down the fresh roasted beans as well. i am spoiled though from getting local coffee beans grown down the street where i lived in hawaii. LOL. i have seen some tortilla factories around in my travels here and if anyone has gotten product from them they like i would appreciate knowing where you went. its been a long long time since i lived here and things sure have changed....lots and LOTS of things to choose from when it comes to good eats on the cheap. if anyone has any suggestions.... that would be great. thanks.

I just moved to Vegas from Hawaii and would like to find the best local food i can. Suggestions please on where to go for : Any good Latin American food.... Where to get fresh locally roasted coffee beans that i can buy fresh out of the roaster ? Where do i go to get the best baguette in the city ...... Kick ASS Chinese ...... Vietnamese thats done right! ..... A tortilla factory or bakery that really makes them RIGHT ! and FABULOUS pastry( even MEXICAN) where the chef KNOWS what he's doing. I am really looking for joints where the cooking is REALLY good home cooking. I know about LOS already so that takes care of my Thai cravings. I am looking for places i can take away stuff...not necessaily dining in. Any suggestions would be most appreciated..... as all i am doing at this point is driving around and dropping into places that look interesting. I LOVE family run places. thanks for any help you can give me.

I like a chewier rice thats not so soft. i just thought there might be a particular brand that was well liked. I have eaten white rice all my life and for health reasons i am switching to brown more or less. i actually find that i like it a lot better than i thought i would. just need to find some that i like well enough to use everyday. i love good rice.
-
Sorry, I can't comment. Brown rice is brown rice, in my opinion. The Japanese are not very fond of brown rice, and I am no exception. ← Thanks, i thought i would throw it out to see what people say. I love white rice but i eat too much of it. good brown rice, while not white rice, is a decent substitute for me. i appreciate your reply... maybe there are others that can give me some suggestions.

I would like to know what brown rice you suggest ...price no object. i want a tasty rice and i dont care what i pay....it just has to be REALLY REALLY good. I am here in Hawaii and i think i might be able to find just about anything rice wise. i'm trying different kinds to decide what i like most. thanks

My parents didn't really have a choice, since they neglected to acquire citizenship and always intended to move back. (The high cost of living in Honolulu didn't help, and they are both avowed urbanites so moving elsewhere in Hawaii wasn't an option.) It's been quite a few years since I had to shop for an IH cooker, so maybe others can comment on which brands they prefer. They all seem pretty reliable, as I've never had a unit fail on me nor do I know anyone who has. More often than not, the owner is ready to move on to a newer model with the latest features before the rice cooker itself fails. I haven't steamed veg in a rice cooker, we pretty much use ours only for rice. ← yes i see what you mean it is rather a bit expensive living here. anyway...thanks for the advice. i will get one i am sure it will do the trick. as far as the veg cooking...well... at that price i do want it to do more than rice. as long as i have cleaned it well it should not be a problem switching back and forth from rice to veg. i have to eat my rice everyday so this will be good to have. now just need to track down a store that has them for a good price... maybe walmart does? never know!

Too cold! Try living in Toronto or Nagano. Actually, I know what you mean. My parents moved back to Vancouver after two decades in Honolulu. They're always cold and bundled up during the fall/winter/spring. We have to turn up the heaters in our house whenever they visit (then turn them down again). Go for the IH cooker. You won't regret it. ← oh thats really funny your parents left after 2 decades wow ! its hard to think about leaving here with the lovely weather and beaches. i would miss it. so what brand IH would you suggest... i eat mainly brown rice. have you steamed veg. in it as well?
-
IH models will definitely be available in Oahu. Hawaii is generally the first place I would expect any Japanese item to be available. You're luck to live there! ← you are in Vancouver and i have lived there too... its lovely but i get too cold in the winter. i have one of those portable jobs that i can take with me and i have family in Hilo so i thought i better get back to da islands. i like Oahu... less rain and more to do. I will try to look for one of those cookers in town. i read the threads and sounds like just what i need. thanks

I live in Hawaii and i have seen loads of them around... i think the induction is avilable but i cant be sure. I am not sure what fuzzy logic is but i will check out the suggested threads. thanks alot

spam and rice are best mates! i absolutely have to have it for breakfast every morning. i think its better than bacon. now.. that said..... i am a hugh fan of the pig. but something about spam with rice is SO good.....all cripsy on the outside and soft on the inside ...a little hawaiian sweet sauce on it mmm....... delicious!
-
Like where? have been there... LOVE the Q!
-
my thoughts exactly.... but a lot of people here in da islands love it and say they cant tell the difference....buy my GOD its just plain awful. i use just enough of the regular stuff to flavour my rice....but this low fat low sodium thing is nasty. yeah my diet generally sucks ...but i do cut my own pinapples and pick my own mangos and papayas....cant live without da spam and rice though. i see its on sale this week ... $1.59/can.... all varities. wont be buying that low sodium stuff again...maybe can use whats left as a door stop.
-
Usually i buy regular spam in some form... hickory or garlic.... But... yesterday i thought i would try the low sodium .... I usually eat it with rice for breakfast... followed by papaya or pinapple. This spam is terrible... it has no flavor. i usually cube a slice and fry it gently till crisp ...then spread on rice. i had to add hot sauce to give it flavor. Really! I mean whats the point? I hear from people all the time they cant tell the difference. is it me? or what? i think its awful. the honey variety is pretty bad as well. what do you buy?
