  1. I usually leave the farm market spending a lot of money. I use TP. The farmers are still selling unripe tomatoes, peaches, etc. How is this different than the chain groceries. The vendor even said the tomatoes are not really ready yet. If I go, which I do, it is to sustain the "idea" of fresh farm veggies or for the experience. I have rarely bought a vegetable or a fruit from anywhere that tastes the way I expect it to, anymore. My .02$.
  2. I usually buy and/or make to much--- I rarely under estimate. The more people the worse I seem to do. With meat I am now at least thinking no more than 1/2 pound per person-- but if it is 4 people or more I will still throw in a little extra- and I then have to much. And at the risk of the wrath of carnitas lovers- I made them for the first time this last weekend (following the thread on carnitas to a tee) and well I have way to much leftover and I was not that enamored of them to begin with.
  3. where can I find Korbuta pork in the area- I may have the spelling off. TIA I want real pork tasting pork, please.
  4. greek yoghurt, rhubarb sauce, toasted pecans, shaved dark chocolate diet coke and cream, ice matzoh, buttter, sugar whole wheat bread, roasted chicken, butter, mayo, salt and pepper sandwhich
  5. I did not watch last year. Who are the people that eat in this restuarant? Hungry actors? What benefit do they receive- the one guy who wanted pumpkin- just was a jackass. It seemed so fake. I liked so many parts of Top Chef better. At least there was a little character developemt. Ramsey- no nuances- but maybe that is the point.

although any amount of drinking does not shock me when it comes to restaurant work (been there done that) - I was surprised to Harold nipping at the bottle - for the cameras to see. Although there is alot of dishonesty out there, it was pretty shocking to see it revealed so openly when Tiffani took credit for daves dessert It seems that the editing/producers really wanted to showcase Dave's talent with food without actually making him the top chef - which also allowed for the final showdown between Harold and Tiffani

It's why he thinks he walks on water, in his own humble opinion. He's oh so impressed with himself for having accomplished so much in such a short time. He's been a professional student for the better part of his life. Lots of academic cred and no ability to deal with people in a real life situation. Social quadruplegic. ← lost of people have been students a good part of their life at 24. And school can be insulating. Was everbody fully evolved at 24? And he has accomplished at lot at 24- and fully thanked all his mentors last night.

I have always liked Steven - although I have not always liked how he handleld himself in the challenges. I think he is super smart but has a lot of growing to do- and I think he will. Very likeable last night. Just the fact that he showed up in jeans after all his suits shows that he is always thinking- keeping people on their toes. I just like that in a creative person. That being said I found the Reunion show oddly unsatisfying.

I respectively disagree. Collicco said several times last night it was about the food- therefore Stephen did screw up last night. I am a fan of Steven- I wish he would lighten up on the attitude, however, I think he has a great variety of talent. And he's a hoot to watch. I guess Harold not my type lookswise- to me he always looks like he smells somethng bad. Harld and Steven would make a good round out team. LeeAnn- most even all around.
  16. I originated this thread after being inspired by Jaz's blog. I actually made her whole dinner- I wish I had pictures. I really liked the short ribs cooked this way. I did them on a 200-225 degree grill-so the fat dripped off. I think I cooked them close to 4 hours total including the glaze. Meaty and rich, but not too. Very tender. Yummy red cabbage and sweet potatoes laced with chipolte. I did this several weeks ago when the temp was till chilly. Thanks to all and particularly Jaz!

What I thought was interesting is that the judges did not pick up on the comment that Andrea several times said she does not care really about winning. This is a contest about being the best chef. Why would she say that. She should bring her best to the table. I would think that would of been the best reason to let her go. Dave- must stop crying- it is awlful. Harold needs to listen. Steven is growing on me.
  18. I have only braised these- but after reading a certain food blog where they were slow roasted I want to try this. Any help.
  19. to be honest I had to quit drinking during the week- Monday through Thursday anyway. But Fri, Sat. and Sunday all bets are off and I drink what I want. I do try to stay away from sweet drinks- yeah for diet tonic! But with the summer I will want Margarita's and Sangria, etc. That is why it has taken me a long time to take the pounds off.
  20. I have been eating around 1400 calories for 3 months and lost 12 pounds - but as said above I was derailed and brought down on Sunday. I spent most of the day denying my need specifically for a chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing. I combed the mall ignoring the cookies, the lattes, cinnamon rolls, etc., but they did not call to me like the cupcake. Finally I found myself at the grocery store that afternoon and I casually checked out the baked goods (not gourmet but not an option at this point) but they only came in packs of 6. Darn. I could not do this to myself. I went down the bread aisle and saw Suzie Q's lurking on the shelf! I grabbed the Suzie Q - tore into the package in the car and breathed a sigh of great relief. It surely helped. I tossed the second half into the trash in the parking lot. But for that moment it really helped. Thanks for listening.
