Steven, is this the same school PJ went to last year? The kosher dairy-only school?

I'm gonna cry, Scotty. I grew up in Santa Barbara and lived in SF for a long time, too. I'm hating on Oklahoma while I'm reading this. Thank you for all of the beautiful pictures and the food!

Argh, my foreign language skills are rusty! I can still swear fluently in several different languages, but that isn't helpful on this thread.

It works, but it is discouraged because it leeches vitamins from the veg.

Oh, I have no doubt you are wedded to your idea of a building a better cold pizza or its alternative. I'm only offering my perspective as the sister of three boys and the mother of three boys. Believe me: boys will be boys. The day will come when you'll thank your stars it's only cold pizza he wants. In the meantime, I like your idea of foccacia with cheese and a pizza-type sauce. Does he like olives?
-
That's what I was driving at, too. He wants to be like the other boys.

You could do some kind of crusty rolls with a soft cheese like meunster or fontina. The lunches are not refrigerated, yes? It'll soften up for him by lunch time.
-
Are there microwave ovens at his school or is that out of the question? Soft breadsticks, cheese sauce in one container and pizza sauce in another flashed for a minute might do the trick.
-
Now, see here. You are thinking of what youlike, not what PJ, lover of cold grilled cheese likes. Embrace the challenge and be glad he is an adventerous eater the rest of the time. He wants to be like his little friends now.

Cucumber always tastes like melon to me. I think I'll cut some up with our next melon salad.

Pizza has a half life of about one week when sitting out on the kitchen counter. At least it did when I was in college and my college attending son says this is still true. Send the kid a slice of your homemade pizza and be a hero, Steven.

I live 20 miles from teh self-proclaimed Huckleberry Capital of the World: Jay, OK. See you the first week of July for the county fair and huckleberry festival.

Doesn't miele mean honey?

HIV positive moms are discouraged from breastfeeding their infants. It is not only the virus that is of concern, it is the drugs that are used to treat the virus. This is an area that is under research at the moment, but there is an issue of the child developing a resistance to the drugs used to treat HIV if they are ingested in the mother's breast milk. As to your friend, what Jaymes said. Tell her to freeze it, save it and have someone else bottle feed it to baby. That way she will actually be able to get out to get her hair cut or shop without dad calling her every two minutes about the screaming, starving baby. This doesn't always work, though. My youngest wanted the real thing and had lungs of steel. He's rather scream himself sick than take a bottle.

Walking through the busy kitchen of Oklahoma City's newest Chick-fil-A restaurant at Memorial Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, Dan Cathy, president and chief operating officer of the Atlanta-based fast-food chain, demonstrates how to make an Icedream cone. He chats with a customer and recommends honey mustard as a dip for his sandwich, bringing the patron the sauce himself. In other words, he doesn't shy away from restaurant work of any kind. I love Chick-Fil-A. This interview with Dan Cathy gives a nice overview of Chick-Fil-A's philosophy and a tour of their kitchens. http://newsok.com/a-conversation-with-chick-fil-a-president-dan-cathy/article/3606059?custom_click=lead_story_title

Food Gifts from Employees, Clients, and Others

I, too, received Omaha Steaks and booze. Lots and lots of booze at Christmas, actually starting at Thanksgiving. Don Draper of Mad Men would have been proud of the bar in the Big Boss's office. I has so gifted top-shelf booze at home, I don't think I had to buy any for 10 years. -
Yes, annabelle does have scientific information about HIV since she is a clinical laboratory technician. If you want to take your information from wikipedia or other pedestrian sources, go right ahead. And there is no need for you to ask a question of this board and then turn around and lecture others when their responses are not to your liking. If you have read thouroughly, I never said that your family member has HIV. Many women on this board have breastfed their children, myself included, and have merely stated our opinions that it is out of bounds to consider using breast milk for novelty purposes. No one is stopping you from doing so. As for milk banks, they are for at risk infants and not adults who are seeking a new flavor experience.

Food Gifts from Employees, Clients, and Others

Are these corporate gifts, Dave? I had upwards of 50 employees my former life in finance and received gifts from banks and vendors who wanted our business, but none from employees that I recall. The other bosses and I bought food gifts for our employees at the holidays, turkeys and hams, and gave them a nice party with an open bar, food and live music. -
Add me to those who do not love basil and cannot see what all the fuss is about with pesto. Yech. I just reread my first post on this thread and I meant to suggest that you use your usual and try the clam juice or clamato with it in lieu of wine and squeeze some lemon over it, as well. I also don't like to cook with wine, either, since one of my boys gripes whenever I do.
-
You most definately can get HIV from breast milk. Blood, semen, breast milk, vaginal fluids and saliva can all carry HIV.
-
Add a bottle of clam juice or Clamato and reduce it a bit before you toss in the clams. Or give the clams a rough chop and toss them in some cream of potato soup with bacon scattered on top for a quick chowder.

Were you ever in the Navy, Skoop? You should see those cookys bust out omelets to order on a flat-top. It's a thing of beauty.

That was Jeff Smith, The Frugal Gourmet. Thaw frozen fish in milk and it will taste fresher. Use the milk for a sauce for the fish.

A Day in the Life of a Las Vegas casino cook's helper

Oy, Scoop. Thanks for reminding me why I quit cooking professionally. Who in the hell makes up the menus at your place of employ? That mac 'n' cheese is making me nauseous just reading about it. Keep up the great stories!
