  1. Thank youfor the kind compliments..
  2. My secert is now out in public. Sometimes you have to keep one place to yourself. I might have to go this week again. My son will only eat that pizza. I guess i tought him well
  3. Sorry for my comments above. I didn't read into the story enough. As a past owner of a restaurant and seen how hard some servers work in this city. I think i will forget i even said anything. I can't support any restaurant with those policies. MAN DO I FEEL SMALL!
  4. I have been there many times and never had a bad meal. The owners are very nice and bruinch is great as well. It is a place i hope the NLIBS neighbors will support. It will be missed for me because i am no longer near by.
  5. I just want to say thank you to all egullet members who have dined at Mandoline. It was a very hard decision to make, but my family will always come first. This gives me a chance to concentrate more on the food and less on the front of the house. I know i have alot of work ahead of me at Deuce, but i feel as if it is a rebirth for me and the passion for food i once had. I had a dream to open my own restaurant one day and for that dream came true. I will leave Sat. with my head up high and know i did everything i could do to have a successful restaurant. I hope not to have anymore sleepless nights worrying about the business side of the restaurant. Oh i forgot i have a 17 month, what's sleep! So much for going out on a quiet note Thank You Again!

It Is not upscale at all. I don't know if they have highchairs. If you call ask for Felice, she could answer all your questions. There is usually music playing and they just expanded to the upstairs. I would take my son without a worry.
  7. My wife and I went last night for dinner. Christina and Jim both treated us great. The kitchen was nice to send out a few comp appetizers in addition to what we had already ordered. My wife and I had a great dining experience from start to finish. The one thing great about this web-site is the different opinions that everyone gives whether they are good or bad. Thats mine!
  8. I was there today and noticed the sign. I hope it is good. I have to work on Sat., but my wife plans to go.
  9. I am on both sides with this conversation. I think it falls mostly on the parents and having respect for the people around them. My wife had a I went to dinner on Sunday at Bar Ferdinand. Our son was born on our anniversary so we decided to go out as a family. We get there and the hostess tells me they have no highchair. Most families would leave at that point, we didn't. Having a 1 year old, owning your own restaurant, and don't forget being married, going out to eat is sometimes impossible. That being said my son sat on my lap and enjoyed everything that was brought out, even the apple foam. I will not cheat my son of these experiences. If my son was out of line we would exit the restaurant in a flash and try not to disturb the other patrons. Most parents don't get up and excuss themselves. That's wrong! On a side note: What a great restaurant. I think we tried everything on the menu except dessert.
  10. The new owner had a restaurant somewhere down the shore. Friends of mine frequent ther often and they really enjoy the food. I think he is closed on Tuesdays.
  11. I think Little Fish's menu changes daily. The restaurant was sold not to long ago. I have heard very good things since the change was made.
  12. $29 DOLLARS. I was hesitant at first because of the price, but we got a nice response and no complaints.
  13. I don't like to put our restaurant on the front burner, but we just added a 12oz NYS Steak with potato croquettes, roasted mushrooms, and foie gras butter. I will sometimes change the preparation but it will be on the menu throughout Spring. I was scared to put it on because of the price point, but it seems to be selling pretty well.
  14. Mother's is no more. It was sold not to long ago. New Hope has become a restaurant wasteland. The locals are slowly moving out and the area is turning into a commerical tourist trap. My wife and I stay on the Jersey side. De Anna'a, Full Moon, No. 9, and Lambertville Station for brunch. There are some great places up Rt 29 towards Frenchtown, Milford. At one time everyone that worked in the restaurant biz in that area were very close. We would meet every Friday at the Raven for drinks, not anymore. Friends of mine went to the Mill for dinner two weeks ago and were very disappointed with everythng.I had a great meal the about 4 years ago, but haven't been back since.
  15. It is good that they are finally getting some attention. It will always be my favorite Italian restaurant. My wife and I used often, but I don't have time to eat. It is one restaurant that I will always promote to my friends and customers. The wife does all the desserts in house. I know since their second child they are not there as much.
  16. I agree with Rich. You don't need star chefs to put Philly on the great restaurant map. The lack of PR in promoting the restaurants in Philly(byobs especially) is horrible. A month ago I had a meeting with Phila Mag about extending my ad in the magazine. I thought with the huge popularity in byobs, that the guide for byobs should be placed somewhere closer to the front of the food section. Instead they place it so far back in the magazine it sometimes gets lost. The best PR for me is word of mouth. I tried to put together a restaurant the suits everyones needs. Yes, I have chicken on the menu and soup etc.., but sometimes you need apple pie to sell the other items on the menu. My restaurant is nothing special compared to Vetri, Gayle, Amada, I could go on forever. My staff and myself try to give good service, good food, and hope they leave happy and return for more. I do it for you guys. I am not in it for the money, I do it because I LOVE TO COOK. I plan on using this as a stepping stone for the future. I just hope my son learns how to cook soon because i am tired.
  17. I would love to have a small wine list for my customers to choose from. I will be the first one to tell you that no byob is going to make a ton of money off just serving food. Then i would have to raise my prices to cover insurance. Right now i have a 1 million dollar coverage, you add a liquer license, and you double that. I agree with most of April's article, but the one thing i disagree with is adding another Itl. restaurant. I shouldn't be saying this because i am in the business, but other than Vetri, L'Angelo, and Melagrano. The others are just considered American Italian. You go to Italy, and you would't find veal or chicken parm. These restaurants prepare dishes that are found or close to the different regions of Italy. Sorry for the comments above, but everyone has there opinion, and i am just giving mine.
  18. You don't have to remind me! We had a lot of people cancel during the late afternoon, I guess because of the weather. Who knows! All I can do is show up for work and hope its busy. It upsets enough that people walk by look at the menu and than look into the restaurant and if they see it half empty they keep walking. It is very frustrating. If i only had a answer.
  19. Thurs. Nov 30th would work. Let me know so i could put together a menu for the group. The new menu is posted, if you wanted to pick from that. I am very flexible.
  20. The 3 course menu has changed since. First course Little Neck Clams- chorizo, lemon, and roasted garlic Crispy Calamari Salad- sweet soy and ginger vinaigrette and baby greens Arugula Salad- goat cheese and Fuji apples and red wine vinaigrette Entrees Pan Roasted Quail- pumpkin polenta, grilled asparagus and natural herb jus Grilled Hanger Steakl- roasted garlic potato puree and Merlot reduction Lobster Ravioli- broccoli rabe and jumbo lump crabmeat and don't forget dessert Caleb's Smores-Warm Chocolate brownie with marshmellow gelato, graham cracker, and topped of with caramel and chocolate sauce
  21. I'll probably be driving past Abe's tonight. It would be closed for the day anyway, but I'll try to see if it looks like it's still in business. Or could you be thinking of the Brooklyn Bagels next door to them? BB's been closed for several years now. ← I could be wrong but the owner past away last year some time of cancer.( not 100% sure). There really is no other in the area. Your selection is thin. Ben and Irv's in H. Valley, Famous in Holland and Steve Steins Famous in the Krewstown Shopping center. Nothing can compare to the New York deli's. I have to say that the fish platters at Famous in Holland have always been great. I have known the owners for a very long time and always beem fare with me.
  22. Famous in Holland is taking orders. Just ordered mine yesterday. Not to far from Abes and Bell's but worth the trip.
  23. I come to this web-site to find out what is going on in Phila restaurants and to look for new places to dine. When our restaurant come up on this web-site, yes I do read what people have to say. I will respond whether it be positive or negative and can take constructive criticiism very well. I will be the first one to admit if the kitchen or my staff made a mistake. I promise you after the problem is resolved it will never occur again. I have also noticed that when a customer has a complaint that never voice there opinion there. They feel as if they have to pound there chest to the people over the world wide web. In the year and a half we have been open we have a nice following of customers, and know if there was a problem they would tell me right away. I respect that!
  24. It is very important to me and my restaurant that the customer comes first. If there is a problem during service whether it be food or service I now right away. Not to say our restaurant is perfect in anyway, but we try to keep our mistakes to a min. We have a pretty good record when it comes to food being sent back to the kitchen, and when it does it is made over from scratch( no questions asked). Also, having good staff on hand is so important. When putting together my restaurant I was lucky, All my staff I knew prior, and is still there today. I think this web-site is great tool for me not only as a restaurant owner, but also as a fan of the Philly dining scene. I always want to know what is going on around the city. I do go out to eat alot and use this site as a tool for me choosing a place to dine.
  25. It was a boy. Caleb Reed Lean, born May 19th. Just a amazing experience. I just want to thank everyone for the kind words, and choosing Mandoline for your DDC dinner.
