Now that I've heard of one that can hit proper temps and has decent recovery time, one more question. I've been wanting one but the cleanup spooks me. How much of a hassle is it? Filters needed? How much can go into a dishwasher? I have no burning desire to wash up lots of gunky deepfryer parts by hand. If it's a real pain, I'd end up throwing the fyer in the trash as well as the old oil.

I have visited the Bahamas many times and adore it. Salad, chowder, fritters, anything. Why have I never seen it outside the Caribbean? I'm having a serious craving for conch stew. I need a recipe and a supplier. Can't I buy it frozen somewhere?

why? ← This article is why. http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/05/05/news/06poison.php

OK, I finished my heaving of all possible suspects in fridge and pantry. DAMN! 43 total. Many unopened. I'm more than peeved about the money I spent for them. But I won't ever purchase them again. EVER. Noodles, sesame oil... GACK!! I need a US supplier fast. Chinese canned goods out the butt. I can't live without sesame oil. Or maybe I can. Yes, I know we all thought it was Japanese.

Safer than it's ever been? Sorry, do not agree. Plentiful, yes, available, yes, affordable, yes. Safer? No way. Not for me, you, kitty , kid or pup And food is not the only problem. Have a cough? Kids have a cold? Prepare to cringe. I'm doing a major pantry/fridge product trashing today. Not later. Today. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/06/world/06...int&oref=slogin

Federal officials on Friday placed a hold on 20 million chickens raised for market in several states because their feed was mixed with pet food containing an industrial chemical. Three government agencies -- the Agriculture Department, the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency -- are overseeing a risk assessment to determine whether the chickens would pose a threat to human health if eaten, USDA spokesman Keith Williams said. The assessment may be completed as early as Monday. complete article here http://www.oregonlive.com/business/oregoni...8720.xml&coll=7 I've had it. I want country of origin labeling on everything I buy. I will never again buy products from certain countries. We all knew this pet food would escalate into human food. And I saw on the news today a US grandmother took the foreign made WalMart baby bib off her grandchild who was sucking on it. She bought a kit and tested it. It was loaded with lead. Who knew embroidery thread could contain lead? Why is our FDA not protecting our food supplies? What else are we feeding our children? And I am screaming mad that they will announce the names of the chicken farms involved "later". We have a right to know immediately if we have their product in our refrigerators.

Well this is spooky, the entire article is a must read. Some excerpts Melamine in big demand in China Beijing - Melamine is so popular as a protein lookalike feed additive that at least one Chinese manufacturer is believed to have torn down buildings to get to leftover scraps, industry officials said on Monday. Melamine, used in making plastic and fertilisers, was blamed for killing pets in the United States and South America last month after it was found in wheat gluten and rice protein exported from China for use in pet food. Melamine scrap is believed to be commonly mixed in animal feed in China to artificially boost the protein level, especially in soymeal, tricking feedlots and farmers into paying more for feed for chickens and pigs. "The chemical plant next to us used the melamine scrap as waste for landfill and built houses on it. Then they tore down the buildings to get the scrap once the price rose," said a manager with Tai'an Yongfeng Feedmill Co. Ltd in the coastal province of Shandong. Cutting corners "It is a very popular business here. I know people have been mixing this since 1991." Shandong is the centre of China's poultry industry, which is undergoing an industrial revolution as a wealthier population demands more meat and poultry. entire article from Reuters.. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,...2106641,00.html

OK, It's not potential anymore. I expect a lot more in the future. .................. WASHINGTON — The tainted-pet-food scare has spread to humans. California officials have revealed that about 45 state residents ate pork from hogs that consumed animal feed laced with melamine from China. ......... full article here http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/related/180604.php

I just got this book yesterday. I think I'm in Heaven.

Just bake your usual buttermilk biscuits. Cool, wrap individually and freeze. Reheat in a 350° oven for about ten minutes. possibly not quite as flaky as when they first come out of the oven, but still very good indeed. I use half lard and alf butter. I'm not sure if that is what helps them survive the freezerso well ← So you bake them first? The frozen ones are unbaked.
-
Homemade are better, in theory. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's a rare day when I can produce a biscuit much better than a right-out-of-the-freezer biscuit by the Pillsbury Dough Dude! SB ← That's what I heard. A serious foodie friend tried the Pillsbury and declared them very good. The ones I bought were a local company. I'd still rather make them myself for pennies a pop.

I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere, I just can't find it. I work, and a time is at a premium in the morning. I recently purchased some frozen biscuits, popped then into the oven and was amazed to find they weren't half bad. I expected pure crap, but they were decent. Not wonderful, but decent. Obviously good homemade buttermilk biscuits are better. I need something I can freeze and pop into a toaster oven at work. Does anyone have a recipe ,or can you shoot me toward the thread that probably exists here? No recipes containing sugar please. My Southern female ancestors would rise from their graves and do great damage to me, not to mention what the living ones would do. And I'd probably gag. You never put sugar in biscuits or cornbread. Thanks !

Cashew Mocha, Cashew coffee. Black walnut with anything on earth. Ever tried to find black walnut anything? Impossible. My favorite nut on earth. Why do I only truly love things that are impossible to find? Freud would have a field day with me. I could survive at least six months on a diet of nothing more than black walnut "something".

Up to say 150-200 bucks? If it worked. I'm a single female .Normal home. I'd think I need something I could keep on a normal overstuffed countertop. Cause if it worked, I'd probably use it a lot. Fizzy water, lemonade, you get my drift here. I'd think refills of CO2 wouldn't have to be frequent. Has my ignorance of this topic shown through yet? I could not modify a birdhouse, so I won't go there. Tire valves? Get real, I'm still trying to figure what the ones on my tires are for. LOL. We're talking simpleton here. Ballpark, 15 inches tall, 10 inches wide. Makes 30-60 glasses of non metallic tasting fizzy a month for maybe $15.00 monthly after initial investment. Does that exist? And thanks so much for your reply. The metallic taste comment for example. Had I bought something like that, I would have been DELUXE peeved.

I'd like to try carbonated beverages at home. I'm sick of club soda with the salt taste. If I could just get plain fizzy water, I'd love it. What's the best choice? Do they work? I want really fizzy though. One person household. Don't need a 200 pound behemoth to store.

Okay, Hanging around you people is officially making me crazy. After reading this thread, I'm thinking....... Lots of bread baking around here requires frequently opening the oven door and spraying in water. I have one of those little high pressure steam cleaning thingies. Hmm?

How's this for multi tasking A stir crazy popcorn maker with a ring form pan topped with a turbo convection oven. The unit with the mesh basket is a fan used in blue prints This is my home coffee roaster and cooling station. ← You are truly nuts or a genius! Now I've seen it all.

Time is getting short, and I've got to get moving. You guys are great. I like both recipes. If I have enough cashews I will probably make both. Thanks to my Foodsaver, I found a quart jar of vacuum packed caramels. A timesaver. I just had a brainstorm for another day. A coworker brought in a little snack yesterday. Good wholegrain crackers, a hunk of cream cheese covered with bottled Dant:s Inferno Raspberry Chipotle sauce. Damn, it was good. She said she has an even better brand of raspberry chipotle sauce. My mind started wandering. Linzer cookies, reduce the sauce to jelly consistency? Shortbread bars sandwiched with the stuff and sprinkled with powdered sugar? I really must play with these ideas. Anyone tried it yet? Anymore fast recipes, hit me now. Cashews were just an idea. Oatmeal, pecans, raisins? Bars or cookies? Just not ordinary. What a great website. What a great bunch of members.

Sounds good! Now I'm wondering why recipes usually don't specify whether one should use salted or unsalted nuts. It will make a heck of a difference.

I forgot I must bring munchies to work tomorrow. Weather is NASTY! I really don't want to have to drive to a market in this weather. I'm hoping to make do with ingredients on hand. Does someone maybe have a cookie recipe that's better than the ordinary offerings? I have all the basic ingredients. Brown sugar, eggs, powdered sugar, butter, corn syrup, sour cream, heavy cream, etc. On hand I also have walnuts, chocolate chips(not good ones) , regular rolled oats, pecan pieces and pecan halves, raisins, coconut,-oops,scratch the coconut, can't find it. And I have a 9.75 ounce can of Planters salted cashew halves. Everyone loves cashews. I'm leaning that way. Please don't make me drive in this slop ! I just want something different and really good. And one more thing. My electric oven broiler just died and went to heaven. If the top broiler is required, it will have to be finished in a toaster oven. Probably a few at a time, unless you know how to get a half sheet pan in a toaster oven! HELP??

Okay, am I honestly the only one who thought this was really funny?

Cost isn't really important. I just want the best. This person is worth it. And I need to know why it's the best. Features others don't have?
