  1. Another one, too late but still notable! http://thepancakeproject.blogspot.com/
  2. Please tell me that there will be another one of these coming up soon?! Day late, dollar short... sigh.
  3. I'm sorry, but I have to know... how did it go? Did you get the gig? What was the experience like?
  4. Oops, I got so carried away commenting about the Jello, I forgot to link this AWESOMELY named cheese blog: http://itsnotyouitsbrie.com/ that seems to have a nice balance of information, love and LOLs.
  5. I agree about the Jello one being fascinating. I can't stop staring at the rainbow mold. Partially because it's so pretty and I want some and partially because I can't fathom spending the amount of time she must've spent making it because, at the end of the day, it's still a JELLO MOLD.
  6. Oh how I wish we had taco trucks back here in New England. Sigh. So I went to try these the other day and thought, as far as fast food goes, they were pretty good. I liked the relish/salsa and the corn tortilla was a nice addition as was the lime. Being from California, I know what carnitas means but sadly, they haven't quite caught up out here. I clearly ordered 2 carnitas Cantina tacos and was asked if I'd like chicken, beef or pork!
  7. Dear GAWD, the "...and Jelly" dude is easily one of the biggest jerks I've seen on the Food Network. Excuse me, I should've said "...and JellEH" as said jerk couldn't let his affected pronounciation rest for even a second. Lemon "jelly." "...don't feel like making them anymore." "Pffth, I'm not a butcher." My skin was crawling by the end of this episode. I can't imagine what the sous and prep chefs were thinking.
  8. Hummus. I eat it almost everyday and with a few cans of those Goya garbanzos, I can make cheaper, better tasting hummus in no time at all. But do I? No. I feel shame everytime I put the Tribe of Two Sheiks in my cart. Chicken carcass guilt is an affliction of mine as well...
  9. Linda, thank you so much for responding! Hopefully, someone else might find this useful. The good news is that we actually *did* end up at the 303 Cafe! What a wonderful surprise- it was good enough to make it onto our destination dining list, as we live about 40 minutes south. We will happily visit again on a lazy weekend. I ordered the "cheesy bread pudding with tomato jam" and it absolutely blew me away. The bread pudding was savory, cheesy and lush and the tomato jam was the perfect sweet and tangy complement. Everyone tried it and agreed. My husband had the huge, stuffed breakfast burrito and loved it. Our guests are very conservative eaters (I don't know what they'd have thought of Angela's but I know *we* want to try it!) and had already had a bite at the hotel, so they ordered yogurt with fruit and granola. I definitely won the award for best item, although the burrito and yogurt with fresh fruit and granola were great. We also ordered some home fries for the table and they were excellent with interesting and delicious herbs and spices without being overly seasoned. We all had a drink with our early brunch- I had a belini that was just perfect. I was also the only one brave enough to try a soda made from rice. It was different and delicious and refreshing. Coffee was great too.
  10. I've done a few search combinations but haven't been able to find any breakfast and/or brunch places near airport. We have some friends in town for the marathon and they're staying at the Airport Embassy Suites. They're on a strict schedule so we're going to try to see them around 10 for breakfast/early brunch but we need to go somewhere close so we can maximize our visit before they leave for the tour they have scheduled for early afternoon. Any suggestions? As much as I hate to say it, I don't even care if it's especially good as long as it's nearby and, you know, not poisonous or filthy. Ha?
  11. Both! Some bites with sour cream, some with applesauce, some with both! Craving them now...
  12. Peepshi!!! So clever and awesome! www.seriouseats.com
  13. New this year- individually wrapped, chocolate-covered Peeps!!! Available in milk or dark chocolate! The one I ate had a pink peep inside. Very good, but I consider myself a Peep traditionalist- regular, yellow chickies. And stale, please. I get them home and immediately put slits in the plastic. I love their simple, cute form and the crunchy/squishy ratio. And then there's the magnificent sugar high...

    Fish Sticks

Why have I never thought about making fish tacos with fishsticks?!?! BRILLIANT! Thanks so much for the idea! I was shocked by how much I liked the Target store brand fishsticks. We tried them 2 weeks ago and they were light and crispy and very enjoyable! (You know, for um, fishsticks...)
  15. Oh wow! Finally some real "must-see tv!" Very cool, FG!
  16. Along the same lines, Pacific Natural Foods Organic Soup boxes are wonderful. I especially like the roasted red pepper, tomato and the butternut squash soup. I also like that you can buy it in the big boxes or smaller "can-size" boxes.

    Sriracha peas?

Finally found these and I like them even better than wasabi peas. I don't usually like spicy foods (although I love horseradish-spicy) and the sweetness, which I don't feel is overbearing, balances the spicy kick perfectly. ADDICTIVE.
  18. I know that KitchenAid has an somewhat inexpensive attachment that several friends have used with a lot of success.
  19. This sounds wonderful and I'll have to make a special trip to seek one out the next time I'm in CA. Sadly, the one listed in North Attleboro, MA is a mom & pop breakfast place and not Chinese food.

    Salty Snacks

I hope my keyboard still works after all the drooling, reading the last 4 pages! I would trade all the chocolate in the world for salty and savory snacks without hesitation. Here are some of my favorites: Grilled Halloumi cheese. If no one was looking, I think I could actually eat an entire package. Salami, sopressata - any hard, delicious salami-type meat. Proscuitto, speck - and if i'm in the mood for salty/sweet, nothing beats proscuitto wrapped around ripe cantaloupe. Gardetto's Snack Mix - pretzels, mini breadsticks, and the most delicious part- the dark rye rounds. Salty, worcestshirey goodness. Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds - could easily down a small can as a meal. I am a chipaholic (believe it or not, I even married a man named Chip!): Madhouse Munchies chips. I can't pick just one flavor-- the regular sea-salted, the french onion dip or the salt and vinegar- you can't go wrong. Super crisp and salty and delicious. Cape Cod chips. All the flavors are deliciously salty, but the regular & reduced fat are my favorites. Ruffles Cheddar Sour Cream chips. I have loved these for so long and although I succumb to passing dalliances with Cheetos or the occasional Dorito, I always come back to these. ONE MORE! Whenever I'm home visiting my mom in CA, I always return to MA with a few bags of Emperor Norton's San Francisco Sourdough Snacks. They are extremely salty, crunchy and herby. The ranch flavored ones are delicious as well. If you ever have a stopover in SFO, look in one of the giftshops- they usually have them there!
  21. These are so great! More! MORE! (The honeymoon salad and out-sauced are killing me!)
  22. I'll be honest- unless it's seafood, a light dusting of romano, parmesan, goat cheese or feta crumbles almost always adds another wonderful dimension. But then, I'm pretty sure I would eat just about anything with cheese... As far as finishing oils go- yes, a good olive oil is nice although I've found that avocado oil is a rich, delicious change of scenery. And of course, truffle oil is a WAY less expensive way to get the knee-weakening flavor of truffles. I especially like it drizzled on mashed potatoes or even baked mac & cheese.

    String Cheese

I completely agree that Polly-O is noticably better tasting. I actually like their 2% fat (their low-fat version) mozzarella/cheddar twists the best. I've been eating reduced-fat string cheese for so long that regular tastes weird to me now. Scubadoo, those sound delicious!
  24. I have not tried the new wrap but I will say that their creepy ad campaign is extremely unappetizing. The concept of having people talk about/to the wrap as if it is a hot guy or gal juxtaposed with pictures that do the product no favors makes me wonder what the heck the marketing people were thinking. Just a quick side note- I have a friend who once brought blended-up Big Mac to a fancy party and served it with crackers, calling it a pate. It was a hit.
  25. Sadly, they've taken most of the mean out of Durgin Park. The prime rib is still good though!
