  1. I am not local nor am I native. But I do love spending time in Kansas City. Both of them, and all three if you throw in the northland. I do need to explore more of the east side of the metro at some time. I have enjoyed reading this blog, seeking out new places to spend my hard earned (at least to me) monies and my time. Rock on, sweet river, rock on.
  2. The pictures of the carrots made my mouth water. And I just finished dinner of chicken tikka masala and am stuffed.
  3. That works for me. A Good Brandyboy or cherokee purple, a little sea salt and I am in heaven. Of course if you add bacon and bread to the mix, NIRVANA.
  4. This sounds like so much fun. If I was in the area, I would try to find time to be there. Kids can be so much fun when you are able to see the lights starting to flicker on and they are suddenly understanding and comprehending. As to the best bbq, I have a fondness for Jones bbq over in KCK. (note to self - I must take moosnsqrl there as soon as possible, I do owe her and Nic also) As for the judging, yes, I guess I am a chosen one. And can't wait. Two whole days of tasting the best of the best. Competition que is so different from restaurant que. I was thinking this today as I chowed down on my lunch of ribs and hot links from Albert G's in Tulsa. Sides of beans and slaw. white bread, no frigging texas toast. I don't eat the white bread, but just the knowledge that it is there is enough. That plus the sides of kosher dill pickles, sliced red onions and pepperocinis. So Judy, I hope there will be a party at the kemper. If you need rsvp's consider this mine. I am buying the ticket for friday tomorrow. later gater.
  5. My bad, you are right - Sharp's. Aixois does breakfast? then I am there the next time I am up which hopefully will be soon.
  6. I like it as well, but I told a couple of colleagues that it's open now. They were already planning to dine at 1924 so they just did a drive-by but they didn't think it looked open. I guess, after all those years of untreated windows, the curtains and large picture of young Michael threw them off. I have a lunch there Wednesday; will let everyone know if the SmithBurger can hold its own against a JonesBurger ← Jonesburger, where do you get one of those?
  7. Are you looking for walkable places or will you have wheels?
  8. I have recieved my assignments for judging during the American Royal BBQ competition. I will be judging the invitational and the open desserts on Saturday and on Sunday I will be judging the Open Meats. So inspite of the fact that I will know some of the cooks, I still want to party Friday night. That is a very special day of the year for me beyond being what it is to KC. I can bring a cake or whatever. The rules are that I can not mingle with the cooks before judging on the day of the event. Competition bbq for 2 days, I don't know if I can contain myself.
  9. I love it when you talk dirty to me like that! Thanks for the update. I'm long overdue for some dim sum... ← I want to go for dim sum. I have been in withdrawal since our only dim sum place here closed.
  10. Makes me wonder if the bartender knows how to make a righteous milk punch like the one I tasted in New Orleans last week at the Bombay club.
  11. Total Wines was absolutely no help. They will not special order anything. So I found another place that was very helpful.
  12. Bluestem report, just too good, almost enough to make me want to move to KCMO, or KCK either one. OP not so much. We ended up sitting in the wine lounge section just having a great time, you should of been there, really. The wine was flowing, Solitare chardonnay, the cab, i didn't catch the name of that one. The Moules Frites was excellent served with a flight of dipping sauces for the frites. My favorite was the spicy aioli, more frites, a charcuterie board of italian hams - yum. Then we ordered an almost dinner of waygu beef tartar, I was tempted to order a second, but not wanting to embaress anyone, I held off, damit. This morning, I had breakfast at Sparks in Brookside, it has lots of great reviews. I thought it was only okay, nothing really inspired or interesting. Oh well, back to Room 39. Signing off so I can get ready for my trip to Shreveport and New Orleans.
  13. When we were at the farmers market this morning, the La Divina folks were picking up their milk from Smith's Creamery.
  14. Not in the Quarter but excellent, I had the opportunity to take in the cocktail pairings dinner at Cafe Adelaide done by Lou. Excellent dinner. And delicious cocktails.
  15. Add this to your do not miss list. It even received a mention in this weeks New York Post, scroll about half way down the column for the mention with picture. Great inventive flavors, ones I remember pineapple mint, blueberry basil, louisiana Melon, Plum bordeaux wine, and on and on. I forgot about the chocolate turbodog. yummm
  16. I had dinner last night at Cafe Adelaide. We opted for the dinner with cocktail pairings directed with a masterful hand by Lou whipping up the perfect cocktail for each course perpared by Chef Danny Trace. The courses included Crispy Louisiana Soft Shell Crab five tomaotes, vidalia onion and cucumber ribbons with summer corn and mirliton chow chow served with a Moscow Mule Imperia vodka, ginger beer and lime and Menage a Fois pecan cursted seared foie gras, foie gras brioche croutons, foie gras ganache and blueberry jam classic sidecar pierre ferrand selection des Anges cognac, cointreau and lemon with frosted sugar rim and Louisiana boucherie coffee crusted pork tenderloin, hogs head cheese and a boudin crepinette Whisky Bay Cocktail Woodford Bourbon, Calvados, pomegranate grenadine adn ornage flower water Definitely worth the visit and if you book ahead to do the cocktail pairings, it will be a memorable meal.
  17. Okay, I now have a new favorite place to go when I am in Shreveport. THat is beside Lucky Palace and Bella Fresca. The Cotton Boll on Fairview across the street from Schumpert Hospital is excellent. Miz Jackie, the cook, made a great omelete. I just wish I didn't have to leave town because the word that I got is that her fried chicken is the BEST IN TOWN. Now I have a reason to go back.
  18. Lare, It's in the old Zin space, SW corner of 20th & Main. I realize reading the open letter that I've had the openings mixed-up all along, thinking that EV was opening soon and the eponymous resto in the fall. Oops. Well, now I *am* excited. ← So this is a definite for First Friday then.
  19. Hey tacovendor, welcome to the Heartland, and thanks for the heads up. I now have a new place check out the next time I am up. What is the address?
  20. From todays Tulsa World, a piece about the new Center 1 Market, click here to read
  21. If your a fan of bbq, The ARt of BBQ is coming up July 14th at OU-Shustermann Center. They are expectign something like 80 teams this year and they have the people choice.
  22. On South Peoria in the Brookside area. It is a part of Henry Aberson's redevelopement of the west side of the block where the old Wendy's was torn down and replaced by street side building with parking in the rear.
  23. you might try talking with the butchers at Langensteins. They are a little pricey but you can get custom cuts.
  24. Center 1 Market opened today. It is sort of a coop market in that 4 different vendors share the space. Dawson's Market carries organic meats, cheeses and ready made salads, Farrell Family Breads has a booth with artisian breads and cheeses and sweets, James of Nuyaka Farms carries mostly locally grown produce from his fields, and Jill carries dips, spreads, ready made sandwiches and salads and fresh flowers. It is located in a good location for the customer base who will shop there. I am excited especially about having James' produce without having to wait for the saturday Cherry Street Farmers Market. That and a better selection of breads from Tom Farrell's bakers.
  25. To bring this topic back up to the front of the line, Here is a story from today's Chicago Tribune about the gloriusness of grits.
