  1. I wasn't able to get anywhere near a po'boy except to watch the lucky ones who made it to the front of the lines. I didn't stay to long although the music at the stage backing up to Carrollton was good. The secondary plan was put into place and we went over to Magazine and hit Il Divino for some gelato, the satsuma-fennel was very interesting.
  2. It looks like the PoBoy Fest is going to be the place to be in the city on SUnday. I plan on being there for some sampling. Here is the list of po'boy shops participating
  3. Also mentioned were the bars at Craft and at Charlie Palmers.
  4. I went to my friends at Dallasfood.org and asked them about the best cocktails in Dallas/Ft Worth. Here is one of the answers - (from gavlist) - The Mansion - go on a Tuesday and look for Michael. He makes a number of his own infusions (pecans in bourbon, poblano simple syrup, tobacco leaf in rum, "house made" tonic, etc.) and is very good at balancing flavors (eg - drinks don't come out too sweet). He's really good at the classics, but also has some more creative drinks that are delicious. The drinks are pretty pricey, though... so a good option is to go on Thursday instead (Michael might not be there, but the menu-based drinks are the same) for their happy hour (half-priced drinks, 6-7 pm, I think?).
  5. No problem, not too many people make as good a chocolate bar as you do.
  6. I am most knowledgeable about the Hebert's version. More info here - Mr Ed Richard (riee-chard) runs the shop here in Tulsa. His brother has Stinky's Fish Camp in Dune Allen Beach in south Walton county Florida. Both are really nice guys. I go there for my Poche's andouille and tasso for my pots of red beans and rice. If you have never served one then go for it. I remember the first time I prepared a boneless turkey for the family's thanksgiving. boy were they amazed.
  7. Everything is very spread out. Dallas and Ft Worth are two different worlds. In Ft Worth, besides Lanny's Alta Cocina Mexicano, there are Tim Love's places, Lonesome Dove and his burger joint which I am losing the name right this minute. The Knox-Henderson area of Dallas has a lot of restaurants. The DFW was built around the automobile. I was there Friday and it took me an hour to get from the Central freeway down 635 to Mesquite, a distance of 13 miles.the burger joints name is Love Shack.
  8. When I was heading to the Penzey's store in the OP I noticed that Taste was open so I decided to have a second lunch. A very nice and friendly space. The menu is divided between small plates and regular plates. At lunch they have done an nice thing, for $11 you can choose 3 items off a small plate menu to create your own meal. I did this and definitely enjoyed my meal. I highly recommend asking for a side of the wasabi aioli to go with the sweet potato fries. The next time I am up in KC, I will definitely go back here. And if moosnsqrl wants to join me it will be my treat. I am still in debt to you for a meal.
  9. Good job Joe, I am looking forward to dinner soon. Lauren likes you, she really likes you.
  10. Why would they be out of crops now? Is this the market located by the old American Can Company factory? If so, we just missed it last week. What other good farmers' markets are there in NO? ← Besides the original Crescent City farmers market on Saturday at Girod and Camp and their outpost in uptown here is a further list from the Crescent City farmers market
  11. Starwich files for bankruptcy. explaining
  12. Incredibly funny image - u.e. and moosnsqrl having dinner together at TCF. Thank goodness it will never happen.
  13. Thanks for the update. I am on Jonathon and Camille's side of this debate.
  14. Congratulations, I would of posted sooner but I was dealing with being in a car wreck in a strange town and all that accompanies such trauma. My new ride is being delivered this afternoon so you will be seeing me in the next few weeks or so. The next bbq judging for me is at the end of August in Winfield and I will be needing to get out of town before then.
  15. I had never heard of it in all my trips up to KC. But now that I know Joe is working the stoves, you can count on me checking it out soon. I just needed a reason for a trip. I have holiday time coming up real soon too.
  16. I am going to have to back out. I will be preparing a dinner on that Saturday night for 12 at work so I am in the process of changing all my plans, canceling reservations, things along that line. Next year for sure especially if it is Kansas City.
  17. Hey Kent, have a good time exploring KC. I know you have a limited time frame but u.e. will send you to the right places. Kansas CIty is certainly one place I go to dine well.
  18. To help ease the tensions between UE and moosnsqrl I will volunteer to treat UE to dinner at Justus (house of Drugs) this weekend. How about saturday night? I haven't been up that way since last fall, damn the price of gas, full speed ahead. Let me know, if I can't make it I will call them and make arrangements. I would love to taste the new summer menu.
  19. Head on down to your local Krispy Kreme tomorrow for your freebie
  20. I am with you Big Country. Yesterday afternoon when I was out running errands I was thinking about how nice it would be to be able to go get a snowball. Maybe you could start up a little snowball stand on the plaza?

    Capers

Another fan of fried capers. Makes a nice little finish to a salad or as a last minute finish to anything piccata. I have done it with chicken, veal and fish(I used tilapia). Pork tenderloin, sounds good.
  22. er....RE.....arah see is fr/ Columbus, GA. (sorry I could not pass on the alliteration). Granted it is now owned by an int'l corporate beverage maker but Claude Hatcher blended Chero-cola--soon to be Royal Crown Cola--in 1905 in Columbus, GA. Now Pepsi on the other hand.....interestingly enough it was "invented" in North Carolina but for some reason Coca-Cola seems more Southern than Pepsi. It is definitely more Georgia than Pepsi. ← I never knew you could put peanuts in anything except a tall RC unless it was a Nehi grape which was made by the same company as RC's. I loved Nehi bellywashers.
  23. Kent, have you been able to swing by Mann's yet?
  24. It is reaching the point where I am going to have to say damn the price of gas, full speed ahead up 169 for a long weekend. Central Italian, hum.
