  1. I think you mean Pizza Masters? I loved San Vito's in Bayonne.
  2. Sundried tomatoes Truffles (the fungus, not the chocolate!) Altho it might only be the white ones...I had cheese with white truffles and a sauce with white truffles and both had a strong taste that was unpleasant to me.) Both of those ingredients are normally received with an "oooh". Except by me. yuk.
  3. I bought a 3+ pounder this morning and had him for lunch! I did have them steam him for me - I am not thrilled with the idea of killing things - even when I want to eat them. Don't get me wrong - I am not squeamish about him *being* killed - I just don't want to be the one to do it. P.S. It was delish! I love that there is so much meat in the body and little legs of these big'uns.
  4. Brian - If the menu at Dragon Palace is in Chinese, can you give me some advice about what I could order? (and how? ) Also - I have been eyeing the Chinese seafood place on Rt. 1/9 and wondering how it is - can you give me a little more info? Are they only good for dim sum? I am adding King's Village on to my "places to try" list as well! Thanks for the tip!
  5. OK, did I miss something? No one commented on the just plain ol' crawfish! That pic had me craving them, and all I see mentioned here are the "crawfish ettouffe", "crawfish bread", "crawfish beignets" and "crawfish bisque"... Were they not available just boiled or steamed?
  6. I dislike ketchup in a BIG way - I just don't like the taste. To me, it ruins food. The only use I have for ketchup is for adding horseradish and making cocktail sauce for shrimp. Yum!
  7. Where in Southern NJ will you be? The Cape May area? Atlantic City? Trenton? Toms River? Hammonton? etc. etc....

    China 46

Ok, I am glad I am not crazy At least someone did say they were offered ice cream *whew!* Rachel, Nancy and I are in for Sunday, if you can get there. btw, I guess I got the idea they just brought things to the table for people to sample, since Jason worded it this way in his post 4/11/04: "In addition to these 3 tables, Cecil and his staff comes around and deposits other goodies on your table -- Xiao long bao, various stir fry dishes, etc." Randi

    China 46

Today was my first trip to C46 - I went for brunch with a friend. The food was all exactly as described - fresh, well prepared, delicious. As my friend pointed out - it was the only Chinese buffet he had been to that didn't have any "junk". Everything was a winner. I was disappointed by one thing (ok, two. ) One - Jason had mentioned that they bring various things to the table to supplement the buffet. But nothing at all was brought to our table. I kept pacing myself with the buffet dishes to be sure I would be hungry for the items brought to the table - but alas...nothing appeared. Also, I thought I remembered Curlz mentioning that when they offered her ice cream at the end of the meal, she was too full to accept it. I was in the mood for ice cream - but again - no offer. And when I asked if it was included - I was told no. So I didn't end up with the experience I was hoping for. But my friend liked it very much (not having the same expectations I did). And he saw a dish go by that he wants to order next time - "seafood with pan fried rice". It went past us quickly, looking like a Chinese paella - and they cut it into wedges like a pie at the table. So...was there something I should have said or done to get the other dishes brought to the table? Or was it just because we aren't Jason and Rachel?? Randi
  10. Had lunch at the Stage House last Monday. My bosses took me out to celebrate 15 years with the company and I chose the Stage House for our lunch. I was very pleased with my meal. My only disappointment was that they didn't have the PEI Mussels with chorizo, saffron, toasted cumin and spinach appetizer but I chalked that up to it being a Monday. Instead I chose the salad of warm goat cheese, crushed almonds, mixed greens with a balsamic vinaigrette. It was really, really delicious (except that the goat cheese was not warm, and the almonds not crushed). For my main course I got the roasted chicken breast, spatzle with carrots and broccoli, seasoned with truffle butter and game jus. It was delicious, but I have confirmed I am not a huge truffle fan. I love that the chicken was boneless but it still had a very nice layer of crispy skin (my favorite part!) on top. Both my bosses are female and eat like birds (constant diets) so we didn't get dessert And I was the only one eating the (very yummy) bread and butter, as you might imagine. I want to go back soon!
  11. How about: Cool Dogs or Totally Tubular
  12. There is a little soup store in Rahway called (what else??) "Soup Store". I went there Saturday for the first time. The owner, Betsy, makes 5 different soups daily. That day there was: chili, chicken matzoh ball, beer cheese, philly cheese steak, and white bean kale. I tasted all but the chili. I thought the philly cheese steak was pretty good! (It was almost stew-like with beef, onion, peppers, cheese) I've heard her seafood bisques are good, but sadly, she didn't have them that day. She gives a piece of fruit (choice of apple or orange) and bread and butter, crackers, homemade croutons and a cookie. I think it was 5.99 for the middle size (16 oz) with all the goodies. She has a bucket on the counter with rubber chickens in it. She handed me a plastic kiddie gun which she loaded (with a small plastic toy chicken, I think). She told me if I shoot the chicken into the bucket I get a free 12 oz soup. I got it in, but it bounced out!. Then because I spent over $20 (I got 2 soups and a book) she told me I get to pick a free prize. She had a jar of folded slips of paper, and I reached in and chose one. I got a free Soup Store travel mug. Too cute. It was like a carnival with soup. P.S. on my way home I stopped at Quizno's (for the first time ever) to get a sandwich and decided to get one of their soups too (for comparison purposes). I actually liked theirs the best! It was chicken corn chowder - with a touch of cream, and a spicy kick - really really good!! Soup Store 687 Jaques Ave. Rahway
  13. Hey! It must have worked!

    Edison area

Jack Cooper's deli in the Tano Mall just off Rt 1 on Amboy Avenue. Haven't been there in a while but it used to be pretty good.
  15. I paid $17 for 4 (at Marshall's) but it also came with the torch, so I thought it was a decent deal.
  16. I am glad you posted that pic. I wanted to take my camera but my roommate isn't thrilled when i photgraph food And you said you had that sandwich "not three days ago" which I bet could mean..."three days ago, two days ago and yesterday!" It's a big'un. And ours today looked JUST LIKE IT! Their cole slaw is pretty damn good too, don't you think? Randi
  17. We had lunch today at Harold's Deli in Edison. We shared matzoh ball soup in a 60 oz bowl with 2 bigger-than-softball size matzoh balls. And then a 26 oz hot pastrami. The pastrami was melt in your mouth good. Had the same for dinner (brought home leftovers). Still LOTS left!
  18. Regarding the "first post" vs. "fifth post" issue - if you were going to post to promote your restaurant, wouldn't you post a few unrelated posts first so that it didn't look like you joined just to promote your restaurant? And...I think Tommy's #5 is also represented in the post. We don't know yet about #4
  19. I agree that the peanut butter chicken at Green's Court on 46 in Totowa is great. They have a handful of other decent dishes too. And for an additional $1 you can get a plate of snow crab legs (used to be included in the buffet). I have been going to Quing Feng in Linden lately since their food is also decent and the 9.95 price includes the crab legs. I usually eat plate after plate of the crab, and nibble on some other items. Once you figure out the decent items (they too have a really good peanut butter chicken) the fact that the rest are pretty sucky doesn't seem to matter. 20. I like Treasure Garden on Inman Avenue in Colonia. I *love* their shrimp and sizzling rice soup. yum! And their specials are usually quite fresh and delicious. Also, someone was raving about Dragon Palace (I think that's the name) in the Oakwood Shopping Plaza at Oak Tree Rd and Wood Avenue (Edison).
  21. This was my initial thought, as well. The only thing I wondered was if Lou was asking so he could properly buy ingredients for and prepare the right amount of sides (if they are included in the dish, he can estimate quanties better than if left optional.)
  22. Ahhh...but how would they feel about the difficult-to-access ladies room? It sounded like a deal-breaker for even the slightest of mobility-challenged individuals!
  23. Not to mention the excitement generated by some of Glenn's amazing sounding sandwiches!
  24. Welcome to eGullet, whitetrufflechick. Thanks for the great report on Flirt. That's a very impressive first post! Looking forward to more. Randi
