    Beer Thoughts

Isn't there something about brewing the original Czech Bud again? Wonder how it compares?
  2. You need a Teenage Enema Nurse.
  3. Sort of bittersweet. Some say like cough syrup. It's an acquired taste shared only by the cognescenti.
  4. I've had premixed bottles of Compari and soda straight out of mini bars in Europe. Tastes right. The bottles are shaped like little olive oil bottles.

Is that why Bud tastes so bad? Now about that hot sex.....
  6. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Won't work, of course, if you slobbered on your shirt, etc.
  7. So, I can have your ticket then?
  8. Didn't L'Oasis in La Napoule have 3 stars?
  9. Tell us how you really feel. Actually, the 100 are listed in a little pull out booklet which has Lincoln ads in it.
  10. allow me: gourmet and its ilk are generally big-city-centric. hell, they're NYC-centric for the most part. people know what they're getting when the read the cover and buy the thing. if they don't, well then they're stupid and the publisher deserves to take their money. Well, I had to run down to the newsstand to figure this out. French Laundry is not listed. More significantly, they've got an article on 100 cool things they've discovered at restaurants all over--Paris, you name it. A perfect opportunity to mention FL. I couldn't find any mention there either. Maybe somebody pissed somebody off.

Since a lot of the younger wines have been filtered and fined, what's the worry about sediment?
  12. allow me to answer: maybe. Well, that settles that.
  13. Have you been watching Friends? Kidding aside, thanks for the listing. Do you know what Rachel's talking about insofar as French Laundry being on the list? Is she reading last year's list?
  14. Re the LA picks, the Los Angeles Weekly runs a listing of favorites chosen by Jonathan Gold and Michelle Huneven (see link). All of these same spots are in the listing except Cafe Blanc. Gold did the writeup on Campanile only. All the others were discussed by Huneven. It seems to be his function to look for lower priced and ethnic gems a la Counter Intelligence. Nonetheless, a surprising congruence. http://www.laweekly.com/food/totallist.php
  15. Patent nonesense. Progress is what everyone thinks they value. Progress is in the mind of the beholder perhaps. Forward motion is dependent on which way you turn your head. Yeah, where's Thomas Hardy when we need him.
  16. Well, Silver Oak's wines are generally between 93% and 100% cabernet and if they are one dimensional, then bring on the first dimension.
  17. Voila! I think I hear a minor concession to New World wines.
  18. This sounds like the ultimate rationale for the space program: trash this planet, move on to the next one.
  19. Years ago, Stone, there was a French Restaurant in Santa Monica called Bellevue that made a good bouillabaise. Today, I think it's a Crocodile Cafe.

    Greek wine

Usually the best thing about Greek wine is the bottle.
  21. No, but if we can break into Plotnicki's wine cellar in his absence, I think I will be.
  22. He says 60 euros would result in a 10x cost to price ratio. So, the math is he's talking a total tab of 600. Pricey.
  23. FG, to be honest I am not sure because I constantly get that wrong, but your definition sounds right to me. So single varietal as in my post would be redundant redundant. Well, not exactly. As the attached indicates, in the US, a wine can bear a grape variety name and be a blend of only 75% of that grape. http://www.aboutwines.com/home/reference/varietals/?
  24. Hasn't that usuage been corrupted so that you've got to get into estate bottled or something to really mean 100%?
  25. Here's last year's list. It's still online. http://eat.epicurious.com/gourmet/restaurant_reviews/
