  1. a few on your list are definately places i like to go for a weekend brunch with friends. another one though is cafe zen in kitsilano, it's on yew and york street, just up the street from the roger's video. i love their brunches and there's usually a pretty big lineup in the mornings! their bennies are frikkin fabulous! i love getting a half and half order (one benji mushroom benny and one crab avacado benny mmmmmmm or whatever other combo u want) everything is extremely fresh and IMO it's pretty reasonably priced.
  2. yes wild rice, how could i have forgotten about that place. i love it there. the kung pao is excellent as is the buffalo. the drinks are pretty delicious too... while waiting for our table the last time, i enjoyed a drink with lychee liqueur in it (sorry can't remember the name of it)
  3. oh i highly recommend chambar and feenies. if you like congee, i highly recommend congee house on broadway and quebec st. actually, if you'd like to go to a cool little spot for breakfast, i recommend cafe zen in kitsilano (yew and york st) very good casual dining and really close to kits beach so if you'd like to walk off your breakfast, it's a great spot! enjoy your stay here in vancouver!
  4. i have to say i've developed an addiction to popeye's chicken... i love the fact that they don't charge me extra for white meat and the spicy batter is pretty tasty. the chicken itself i find quite juicy.... mm mm good the sides are ok but the biscuits are frikking awesome. i like church's chicken too but i'll pick popeye's hands down over it any day of the week.
  5. i had a fairly large party (about 25-ish people) at jupiter cafe, which is a very funky little spot on davie street. the food is good and not too expensive (my favorite combo ) and the spotted prawn on hastings has always had a fairly big space and very good food but now the view is somewhat marred by the new shaw tower....
  6. thanks again for all the suggestions... my sis and i are talking a about going to C restaurant.... anyone been for brunch? is it worth going or would somewhere else be a better bet? keep in mind there will be a lot of us... this becomes a huge family "do" and because of this we have to go somewhere that's kid friendly too.... any more suggestions anyone?
  7. thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Daddy-A, I'd love to cook brunch for my mom but unfortunately it's not just the two of us.. it'll be the rest of my siblings and all the rugrats.. i mean my nieces and nephews too a few too many people to cook for. i've been to provence and loved it there , i'll definately put that on the list. i liked glowbal but unfortunately the last couple of times i was there for breakfast I wasn't terribly impressed. The food was good, the service was just eh... hmm... the wedgewood huh? I've heard good things about it so we might just go there. Has anyone checked out the brunch at Pan Pacific? Is it any good?
  8. It's been a long while since I've gone to a good sunday brunch so I'm a little out of the loop... In the past I'd checked out some of the brunches that Hotels offered, some were good but very pricey and some were just ok. Does anyone have any suggestions about where I could go (and take my mom) for a good Mother's Day Brunch? Hopefully someplace that's not going to bankrupt me too! (Preferably a hotel/restaurant that has a good selection of seafood) Thanks!
  9. yeah samurai on davie is quite good and fairly inexpensive. there was another place down on denman and robson called musashi that was really good but haven't been there in a while... anyone been and have a recent review?
  10. the food court in the bentall center (right by rex's) has some great choices. i like to have the pastas at fresh and also anita's kitchen makes some very tasty sandwiches and soups. on pender there's also fujiya, they make some really good boxed lunches that are pretty inexpensive and tasty.
  11. i was there on the weekend and had the challa turkey club.. it was stupendous. the service was very friendly and i have to say that if i wasn't completely stuffed by the sandwich i would definately have gotten the chocolate banana croissant too.... oh well, i'll have to go back for it! oh i loved the kosher pickle too, altho i wish they gave the whole pickle rather than just a quarter of it... but that's the glutton in me on another not, i wasn't too fond of the coleslaw.... just my opinion tho.
  12. yum! cafe zen is fabulous. the quality of the food is great and june, the owner is always very gracious... be forewarned tho, there's usually a large line if you get there after 10am on a weekend....
  13. thanks! i'll be sure to make it out there soon....
  14. i used to go to this little place on 6th and main called the whip.. very cool vibe there and the food was delicious. haven't been for a while tho.. has anyone been? is it still good?
  15. ooooh the whipped cream cakes from asian bakeries... brings back a lot of childhood memories... i do like anna's bakery but to be honest i haven't been back there in a long time. i remember they had a really good strawberry mango cake. anyone been lately? are they still the same? with so many other bakeries to choose from, i'd rather check out other places like lillykate and have that big slice of chocolate cake .....mmmmm... now that's a good slice of cake.
  16. where the heck is da francesco's? now i'm jonesing for a fix of authentic italian!
  17. mmmmm...nick's! sooooooo good! it's been a long time but i think i'm going to have to go there soon. they have a really good lasagne! and i love their spaghetti and meatballs... very authentic .... ← Nick's?? Really? I'll give you Nick's over Anton's, but gimme Da Francesco or Osterio Napoli anyday. At the risk of seeing a return of da' boyz from Nick's in these forums fitting me for concrete shoes I'd say Nick's may have been da' place, but it's living on reputation alone now. A. ← seriously? it's been a long time since i've been there... probably a couple of years at least.. i'm SO disappointed. where the heck am i going to get my authentic italian homecooked pasta fix now???
  18. gross! that kind of thing hasn't happened to me in vancouver but when i was in malaysia at a hawker stand, i looked up and saw about a dozen little lizards on the sign above my head... some were fighting and threatening to drop down onto either me or into my meal! needless to say, i lost my appetite fairly quickly...
  19. i'll definately try out cafe il nido as well.. i had always wondered about it and held off because i wasn't sure... but now egulleters are recommending it.. well! i HAVE to go now! ;) i find the fastest coupons to be used for me are wild rice, the cannery, griffin's and the various thai restaurants... altho i stay away from the thai house chain... IMO i find them a little too "westernized" for my taste. funny thing is, i buy these books from nieces and nephews every year but tend to forget to use them! i'll try to be a little more diligent from now on. maybe we should set up an 'entertainment book restaurant club' - everyone meet at these restaurants in hopes of actually using our coupons lol
  20. mmmmm...nick's! sooooooo good! it's been a long time but i think i'm going to have to go there soon. they have a really good lasagne! and i love their spaghetti and meatballs... very authentic ....
  21. Best way to find is follow this link: THE KOLACHY SHOP LOCATION ← where is this shop? i tried the link and it doesn't display... now i'm dying for one!
  22. I'm surprised no one has talked about the Congee House on Broadway and Quebec. That place has the BEST congee in the city. Personal favorite is the fresh prawn congee, there's usually about 5 or so large prawns with some chinese mushrooms and a few toasted peanuts on top for about $7.... a great value! I also like their wonton noodles. The wonton have a lot of shrimp/prawns in them and are fairly large and the flavour is very good... the broth is nice and flavourful ... yum! i'm getting hungry just thinking about it! lol.. might have to make a trip out there this wknd I have to put my 2 cents in about the best laksa in the lower mainland too... i have to say that there's a place in surrey on 108th called malaysian hut that has a really good, authentic singapore laksa . i go there with my s'porean friends and always have really good food there for not much money. also good bang for the buck!
  23. i remember those days very well indeed... they used to have the best chicken caesar... well it tasted really good after a night of debauchery lol
  24. you're going to love the diplomat cake ling. it's one of my favorites and has been for along time. daaaaaamn.... i'm jonesing for a slice now that i've been reminded of how good it is!
