  1. cool topic! i love this place in surrey on 108th called Malaysian Hut. it's a very small family run restaurant that has very authentic malaysian/ singaporean food. I usually go there with my s'porean friends lol... they have a really good laksa and sambal eggs! mmm.... might be time to go there again.......
  2. Interesting reading here. I've just recently joined and have to add my two-cents! I had the same thing as Ling and I have to say I wasn't very impressed by my meal. Neither were 2 of the 3 friends that were with me. The ravioli unfortunately was very mushy and tasted like it came out of a can. The pork cheeks were ok but just ok.... a little too salty for my taste actually. I found the dessert a little dry too. To be honest, I had expected quite a bit more from Bis. I had heard really good things about it but based on my experience there wouldn't go back. I also wasn't asked by my waiter how the meal was.. wonder why lol...
  3. Yoy sat down in LA Chicken?? That little curtain that seperates the kitchen (passthru) from the front counter always kinda freaked me out. As an ex-Richmondite, I can tell ya, some damn fine chix to be had for sure. John PS: I lived around 4 & Cambie so I'd go there quite often! ← It's a long haul back to downtown from Richmond. so we pushed a few of their tiny tables together for the 3 of us and chow'd down. My friend now is in a real dilemma only working about 5 minutes away from there. He's trying to eat well now, but the revelation of LA Chicken and how good it is might put forth to him a formidable obstacle. ← yes pao pao, that was a GREAT night... (sorry this post is so late, i've only recently become a member and participating member ) and yes, you were wise to end the story of your bitthday when you did HAHA! i have to agree that Guu was amazing, thanks so much for introducing my taste buds to that experience! too bad i missed out on the LA chicken experience but i did try popeye's chicken and have to say that i was very impressed! they were spicy and juicy and just right! plus i love the biscuit they give you. let's go there next time!
  4. hope i'm doing this right. interesting topic and it's been pretty cool to read all the replies! it's given me thoughts as to where my next meal is going to come from! yesterday i went to sammy j pepper's at granville island for lunch... which wasn't anything to write home about. it was ok but somehow i get the feeling people (guys) go there for something other than the food sat night i went to jupiter cafe for my birthday party. it was great. the food is always consistent and the atmosphere is always really cool... funky and relaxing at the same time. friday, some friends and i had dim sum at kirin on alberni st downtown. it was good but to be honest i've had better. i can be a little picky about my dim sum places since i come from a long line of dim sum conniseurs lol
  5. the best reese's gelato around town has to be at dolce amore on commercial drive... there's been many times when we've driven there after a walk on the seawall for a gelato fix ... hey, the exercise and the gelato cancel each other out don't they??
  6. Did any of you by chance try the Truffles that they offer? My wife who's a true chocoholic swears by them. She can't eat the Hershey's, etc. because low grade chocolate gives her a stomach ache. But the ones at Ganache are her favorite and eating them for her is ache free. Her cravings for these Truffles come on so suddenly that before I know it she is briskly walking out of the house to get some around the corner. ←
  7. daaaaamn......that's awe inspiring.. i've been to ganache for chocolate (their truffles are to die for!) but haven't tried their desserts yet.. i'm definately going to asap!
  8. have to agree.. jerry's was a great place to hang out.. i've spent many a night there playing pool upstairs and swilling beer while doing so. strangely enough, the more beer i drank, the better my pool game got ;) the food was pretty good, same old pub fare but honestly, i went there for the company. you could always expect to find a lot of friends there, hanging out.
