I did attend the Bardot opening. Had a great time, but I always do (I keep good company). The highlight was the sabering of an oversized champagne bottle by their wine consultant, Mireille. I did, however, feel surrounded by some fine examples of the work of Vancouver's plastic surgeons. Will have to go back on a "regular" night and sus out the feel of the place. Grand Openings are never indicative of the day to day feel of a restaurant.

Is Salt open? From Judith Lane in the Georgia Straight: With a savoury menu of artisanal cheeses; charcuterie from Oyama and Seattle’s Salumi; a wine list sporting 10 red wines, 10 whites, and 10 sherries, all by the glass; plus Tiger, Unibroue, and Brooklyn beers sealing the deal, Sean Heather (Irish Heather) and partner Scott Hawthorn have an out-of-the-park hit with Salt Tasting Room. Find it in Blood Alley, Gastown.

California does it too: Bin 8945, a modern bistro and raw bar offering nearly 60 wines by the glass, is opening in West Hollywood in mid-June. AND Seattle 35th Street Bistro — formerly that hallowed hippified haunt Still Life in Fremont

Has anyone been to Salmon House lately? I did lunch there a few years ago and enjoyed it, but can't bring back exact memories.

Thanks Kate. Thank god they aren't your client or ANOTHER heated debate about self promotion would ignite.

Ling still reigns supreme with her dining ventures. Keep trucking Lorna. PS - I've nicknamed myself foie gras (fg for short) since I feel like I am force feeding myself in the name of culinary adventure. FG -

Spring is here and I am wondering where to find some local spring produce. I went to the farmers market at Trout lake last weekend and picked up some mushrooms and greens, but I missed the rhubarb and didn't see the usual spring suspects - asparagus and fiddleheads. Where to go during the week to pick up? Thanks! -
