  1. Wedding soup with tat soi, escarole and pork meatballs.
  2. Beautiful, but I am confused on the pink item. Am I just not looking at it right? What is that? Thanks! ← Canadian bacon
  3. Wow, a great stock on the first try! It took me a long time to really get what makes a stock good and I'm finally turning out gelatinous chicken stock. Bones and cartilage is where it's at.
  4. I made eggs benedict on toasted sourdough bread this morning, and one egg yolk broke when I cracked it into a small ramekin. I scrambles that one!
  5. Cream of kohlrabi and potato soup garnished with shredded and sauted tat soi and chopped egg. If it sounds interesting, the recipe is here.

    Dinner! 2008

I love stuffed cabbage and would like to try a different version and these look great. Can you share what you put in the stuffin, Ann_T?
  7. Sopa di Mani- peanut soup. This was so easy. It's like a beef vegetable soup with peanuts and a kick from chili flakes. http://forums.egullet.org/uploads/12009769...5_1826_4256.jpg
  8. Farmers markets, organic markets and Whole Foods is where you'd be likely to find lacinato/black/cavalo nero/dinosaur kale. I like to braise it and use it in soups. I don't find it to be tender enough for a salad. YMMV Braised lacinato kale with raisins and shallots

    Dinner! 2008

Beef Bourguignon tonight. I made it yesterday letting it braise in it's juices and a bottle of red wine for hours at 275 degrees. I added chopped bacon towards the end for smokiness. Served with smashed yukons.
  12. How about making little tire meatloafs instead? I don't think donut shaped meatballs would hold up, but if you did small round meatloafs with an olive for the rim, it would work.
  13. Chicken soup with carrots and farina "spaetzle"
  14. Vermillion in Old Town would be great! Dupont Market is from 10-1 during the winter. For brunch near Dupont, try Circle Bistro, Tonic or The Tabard Inn. Leave room for sampling at the market! ← Tonic's a bit of a hike (though it's on the 42 bus line, the greatest of all DC routes). I have to add Bistro du Coin which is far from a snazzy brunch but is also relatively cheap, and draws a great crowd, including farmers from the market and -- on one occasion when I was there -- Beard Foundation Chef of the Year Michel Richard and clan. If you want the Tabard -- and it's a lovely spot -- make reservations now and ask for one of the side rooms. ← What's the brunch menu like at BDC? Mostly eggs or a selection from their menu? I'm at the Dupont Market quite a bit and would like to try it out. ← They have their regular lunch menu plus a couple of breakfast-y things: omelettes, eggs Benedict and the like. It's not much compared to some of the other brunches around town, but I like it. Sette Osteria also has a brunch; I like the Brunch Pizza, and if it's a cold day getting a seat near the pizza oven is nice. ← Thanks. Many times I want regular lunch items, not egg based dishes. Case in point-went to the Corcoran on Sat. and afterwards walked over to Tonic. They serve a brunch (mostly egg dishes) menu on Sat and Sun which majorly bummed me out because their lunch menu looked very good. This was quite odd to me.

  17. Thai carrot soup with peanuts and cilantro.
  18. This is Braised Savoy Cabbage with Saint-Marcelin, perhaps the most delicious dish I've ever tasted. Like many of her recipes, it's simple, straightforward and deep with flavors.

Baked chicken with pomegranate and cranberry sauce and oven roasted herbed tomatoes with green onions.
  21. We had them call a cab for us as we were getting our coats. Waited in the vestibule 5-10 minutes as expected before one pulled right up front for us.

    Dinner! 2008

Classic French salad- Frise vinaigrette with lardons, poached egg and brie crouton.
  24. Over the weekend I put together a quicky phake-out pho (sounds like a RRism). Chicken stock, star anise, ginger, miso, noodles, shitake mushrooms, lime and cilantro. Lots of cilantro-I like to graze on my pho

    Dinner! 2008

Thanks Shelby! I just got a few new dishes and bowl to get that "contemporary" look when plating food. As far as the tomatoes-Campari tomatoes get me through the winter. They are at most grocery stores and Costco sells them. The taste is amazing and I've never eaten a mealy one. For the fries I just made a parchment paper cone to get that "bistro" look for the bistro meal.
