  1. Did it come in a gold leaf burnished crystal carafe.....or just regular plastic?
  2. Chufi, are any of the ones you mentioned actually in the terminal? I know...we're so lazy! We are flying into Amsterdam and spending a few days in our favourite city , then renting a car and touring France and Spain, the airport hotel will be for when we are flying back home and it's just going to be easier all around. Thanks for the help Chufi....and by the way, we really enjoyed your blog on Amsterdam. We'll be staying close to Vondel Park and are going to try and find the Blue Teahouse you posted the picture of in your blog. Looks lovely! And thank you for posting your tour through Burgundy, we will be driving the same route so it's given us a few ideas. cm
  3. I've been into a few of the new ones and I'd definitely have to agree with the statement above. Yesterday I popped into Steamworks West Wine Store at Park Royal across from Whole Foods and was fairly impressed by their selection of BC wines. Most of which can only be obtained at the winery and aren't sold to the LDB. Mark up was about 20-30% above what you would pay at the winery of course, but a pretty good selection overall. Some thought has gone into this one. Compared to the outlets that have sprouted up along Marine Drive in North Van, this one's stellar. cm
  4. Can anyone tell me if there a hotel right in Schiphol Airport or are they all 5 or 6km away? And better yet, any with good food? cm
  5. Thanks Shelora. I phoned Dwight, got the number and Daryl's on the way. They're going under the name Knifepro in Vancouver too, as Knifex is no longer franchising...or something like that. This is such a handy website when you're having a culinary crisis. Knifepro Chef M
  6. Can anyone help me with this... I ususally get Daryl's number off the Knifex website to come and sharpen my knives. All the numbers are out of order, so not looking good. His name and number is not on the website anymore so maybe he is still doing it, but with his own company....I'm hoping? Do any chefs out there have Daryl's number and could you please pm it to me if you do? His area was the North Shore and Whistler. If not, anyone know of any alternative companies that come to you, to sharpen your knives? Thanks! Chef M

    Dinner! 2005

    What time is dinner peppyre?

    Too much stock

Here's a couple of suggestions that might work for you Malawry... Reduce the chicken and turkey stock down to the amount that you need for the gumbo and just have an incredibly rich flavoured gumbo. Or you could make a chicken or turkey demi glace (and I mean really reduce it, as in one gallon becomes a half cup) the flavour will be wonderful and you can use it as a sauce served over roasted chicken slices. Finish the demi off with some cold butter and fresh thyme just before serving the bird. Demi has never lasted very long at my house, but frozen I think it should be okay for 6 months to a year. cm
  9. Congratulations Andrew! That's wonderful news! Frances
  10. Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver also has a small farmer's market on Saturday mornings from 9am outside on the east side of the front entrance. cm
  11. Oh man.....I think you should be resting or going on vacation after pulling that together in a short amount of time and with no kitchen! The food all looked wonderful. cm

    Dinner! 2005

Wendy, the soup looks beautiful. I can almost taste how refreshing it must have been. cm
  13. Am I the only one who found some perverse pleasure out of seeing all these dead shrimp scattered across the obituary pages? ← Obviously you are under forty.....as no one else could read print that small. cm
  14. Thank's for posting your wonderful review Stephen. Can you tell me if Michel Bras is open to the public for lunch or is it for hotel guests only? We will be staying about a 2.5 hour drive away, so we could get there for lunch, but a two and a half hour drive after a dinner like that would spoil the whole thing I'm afraid. Thanks, Frances
  15. I tried one of the Savoury Island Bran Muffins and it was indeed moist, mostly due to the fact that it was undercooked. The domed top was cooked, but from the paper wrapper down it was definitely undercooked. I don't know if that's the way they always are, I'll have to try another one some other day. However, it was absolutely delicious cooked through or not! I can see why you want to create a similar one. There were blueberries in it, but I didn't detect any date or cane sugar flavour. Don't think I got any buttermilk flavour either but lots of bran and maybe wheatgerm too. Good excuse to go back and investigate. cm
  16. I've never eaten here, but you may want to check out the Candlestick Cafe. It's just a few steps up Lonsdale. If you go on Saturday, make sure you check out the Farmers market on the East side of the Quay by the front entrance. Starts at 9 till about noon. Glen Valley Organics and others have some excellent quality produce, but get there early. Thomas Haas is quite a hike from the Quay....but I'm sure it would be worth it.
  17. The Super Value is actually Extra Foods, even though the signs, and Park Royal Directory, say differently. Albeit Extra Foods West Van style...with their own butchers in the back. Up until two months ago they carried 21 day aged filet mignon for about $45.00 per kilo. Now the only grocery store that carries it at Park Royal is Whole Foods and it's priced at.....are you ready for this..... $86.00 per kilo.
  18. Whole Foods, is to foodies, what Disneyland is to kids.
  19. Hang on a minute...Cheezies and devilled eggs are Canadian??? I thought we were famous for back bacon and maple syrup? Aren't cheezies were just North American junk food in general? Will my passport be revoked? cm Edited to add; thanks for the tip on the Vanilla Beans way back. What a great deal!
  20. We've eaten at your Dundarave location, it was delicious....don't change a thing.
  21. It's the apprentice with food. Easier to watch though, as Ming, Michael and Todd don't have combovers! I guess if I'm going to waste my time watching reality TV shows, better one that is food related. cm
  22. We tried some last night and it seems to be getting better the more it ages. Actually quite enjoyable now. cm
  23. You can find it at... Dundarave Wine Cellar 2448 Marine Drive West Vancouver, BC V7V 1L1 Phone: (604) 921-1814 Hours: Sun - Tue 10-8; Wed-Sat 10-9 Dundarave has a delivery of the King Merlot coming in this week, so the winery tells me. Phone to put some on hold, it may go fast. They received a case last week so maybe there's a few bottles left on the shelf...or not. cm
  24. This should get you started Andrew. Egullet search on Ferran Adria
