  4. Samurai in panton street is closed??? was just there like 2 weeks ago!! The gyoza good but not as good as ryo. Chilli beef ramen was pretty tasty and actually was chilli but the cuts of beef were a little on the tough side. Think i got a few photos somewhere. The sushi chef was really friendly too. On the night I was there a group of Essex girls complete with white stilettos were getting a little rowdy and ended up doing a multiple lesbian snog-a-thon. this naturally attracted the attention of the group of wu tang clan look-a-likes on the next table who promptly joined in!!!! Why did my girl friends insist on leaving just as it was getting interesting!!!!! come on it was free!!!
  5. if you want lebanese /persian edgware road maroush is pretty good. if notting hill not too far out there quite a lot down there electric brasseire is lovely, osteria basilico and mediterrano are good italians too. Toward Warwick Avenue Waterway and the Formosa dining rooms are both very nice pubs with excellent restaurant. haven't been in years but Red pepper used to one of the best pizza/ italian in town. Bayswater ? some good chinese and persian restaurants mandarin kitchen, royal china, fortune cookie and hafez and alounak.

If you want to raise the standards you got to raise the expectations. You got to be a food hitler around family and friends if the people around you want to eat crap give them hell about it!!

  10. you can use them whole they aren't unpleasant to eat whole just may be a little powerful. There no substitue to them that i know off as they have the tongue numbing effect but you could just use a mix of red and fresh green peppercorns
  11. fat duck you will need to drive or cab it I don't think you will want to risk british transport to spoil a lovely night hakkasan definitely as you won't be restricted to 90 minutes. inidian? i suggest going to southall
  12. not bad, not bad at all So we had some poppodoms, jug of mango lassi, mixed grill, karahi prawns, 2 naan, 2 roti, dry meat, 1 kulfi and 1 rice pudding. 4 went and price was about £13/head. No photos as as soon as we dived into the mixed grill my hands where far too filthy to touch my camera!!! Favourite was the karahi prawn big and juicy and lovely flavoured sauce a close second was the dry meat lovely rich flavour. The mango lassi one of the best I have had. Mixed grill was large and tasty man!! that initial hotplate and spice sizzle really burns your nostrils!!! flavour was better then most but not amazingly so but at this price it was a steal. Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by their much rated lamb chops or are the props for the thursday special karahi lamb chops? ( which had run out at 8.30pm?) Had better lamb chops at gifto's and indianzing. place is busy and buzzy, very efficient staff very much get in, get out as soon as possible but done without seeming rude. This place I would rate above average for food and excellent for value. will defintely go again. we also bought a box of 9 large mangoes for £2!!!! from a bloke out of a back of a van opposite the mosque.
  13. Lucky man! Past hits have included lovely buttery naan; tandoori lamb chops; shikh kebab; tandoori chicken; and dry meat. Though the last time I went, the chops and the chicken were a little underwhelming. The dry meat (lamb + spices cooked in lot of ghee + reduced till sauce is dry + meat amazing) is my favourite + not to be missed. PS what looks like soothing yoghurt + mint with your poppadum is 15 times spicier than the red, obviously chilli-ed sauce. You have been warned. ← don't worry i have a stomach like the hull of the titanic

  18. as i said early McDimSum here we come the food at this place sucks like a dyson. Its serving poor quality dim sum masquerading as the genuine article at 30% higher prices then the genuine article. If they really do open 25 branches around london I dread to think what it will do to the quality of the real chinese dim sum places in london. Yauatcha and hakkasan raised the bar of dim sum in london Ping Pong on the other hand are trying to drag it back down.
  19. I was thinking the same thing. The waiter would gladly take it... and phone-order some new shoes with the card... It happened. ← Thats true, happens here in London too. I'm hoping that the place i'm taking the parents to will be a higher class joint and hopefully will attract less criminal activity. besides my card got pretty good fraud protection (although it is a hassle). Other options are to pay the bill in advance or sneak away from the table to pay the bill.
  20. Thanks for the suggestions not sure about the parents favourites will have to find out i'm assuming they not going to be too adventurous but if they are not a problem. Going to be in KL 5 day and Penang 5 days.
  21. because i'm gonna give the waiter my credit card before they arrive this ain't no amateur night you know makes sense, nice surroundings, whats the food like? Should be KL as she said she only about 20 minutes drive from klcc
  22. hi dinner with girlfriends parents will be in KL. It the first time meeting them but I believe they are typical malaysian chinese. So I would imagine something pretty traditional nothing western or fusion think i be safer to stick to asian cooking but in some classy surroundings any places come to mind?
  23. hello I need some help from those familiar with restaurants in Malaysia. Basically I am going to KL and Penang in November and would like some recommendations, i like everything so from hawker stands to top level restuarants if its good i want to know . Also i need to take my girlfriend's parents for dinner one night so would like a place that would impress ie: a well known and established restaurant with an excellent reputation. reasonably expensive but not so expensive that i come across as a flash git. thanks you in advance.
  24. Last night half a dozen egulleteers descended on Hunan for a foodfest. It was lovely meeting everyone and thanks to Ian for organising and getting us a sizeable discount on the bill. I didn't realise it at the time but we ate 23 dishes!!! Here are some of the photos. The descriptions are what i think the dishes are as a lot of them weren't clearly identified. Pig's intestines with some black vinegar sauce Steamed minced prawn ball Double cooked pork Lamb with garlic shoots pan fried liver, porcini and pumkin cake steamed bean curd squid duck tongue in some kind of black vinegar sauce deep fried fish with a sweet and sour sauce jar jiang crab noodle Braised pork in lotus leaf Baby Pak Choi the other dishes we had included chicken a ginseng soup, salt and chilli bean tempura, soup in a bamboo cup, steamed salmon wrapped in seabass, beef spring roll, Aubergine and pickled water spinach, Cold cut of grilled pork neck, Deep fried frogs legs with a pork mince sauce, Cold cut of marinated roast duck, Fried rice, Red bean pancake and almond agar.
  25. yeah just remeber to mix the matcha powder with some milk beforehand then whisk it into the cream. Adding chunks to green tea ice cream? the problem will be that the green tea flavour is quite delicate. Anything you do add might drown the green tea. maybe something like nuts? pistachio would be interesting or something with texture marshmellows? or you could go for a green tea tiramisu ice cream? get some lady fingers and some marsala wine?
