  3. We've started GUMBO-YING!!!! Ya Ya baby!! Della, Adiabatic, Dayne and I all have our hands full of beer and roux. It's bubbling away on the stove now but here's what we've done so far! chicken in the pot for meat and stock trinity start of the roux beers for the event! (none mentioned were found in our area so here's how we make do!) addition of prawns to our gumbo- we made a bit of stock first Andouille, scallions and tasso! boys shredding chicken 1st time making roux! Looks pretty good...... addition of trinity after 2 beers added tasso and stock (chicken and prawn)
  4. We are making gumbo today..will post full pictures when done! my vote for next cook off would be paella, osco busco (sp) or something else Italian! but I'm sure you all can tell that i'm up for anything really!
  5. I think Maggie Bluff's is still open (under Palisades). Rays cafe is good for lunch but I think dinner there is a waste of money. something fun might be Aqua Verde in the U Dist. I have friends (non foodies) who like Lowell's. I like Maximillien and think their prices are very good. What about Ivars (the restaurant not the stand)?
  6. Thanks!! Now it looks like we will only have dinner one night as we have a commitment the other. But there is always time for drinks after dinner! Any other recommendations on good places to go after dinner that are relatively close to the Resort?
  7. Tues Feb 8 Tastingmenu.com has a Seattle Pizza best write up Pizza Ganza interesting.......
  8. I've eaten at Pasion! in Philly too. soooooo yummy! I'm not aware of any place in Seattle doing such similar ceviches. Especially because theirs are so creative. I think SeaStar in Bellevue and Palisade have it on their menu???
  9. I haven't been for a while but I've always had good food there. strange I know!!!
  10. There are still many markets open on weekdays once they start. I think Queen Anne is cute, small and easy to check out! Start at the 5 Spot for breakfast then walk off the meal and shop in the boutiques heading north. Stop in at Les Gourmand Cadoux (sp) for salt carmels!! Lunch at Ototo sushi, Barbacoa or even Paragon. wine taste at McCarthy & Sheiling (sp). Visit the butcher! Drive west on McGraw and go to Macrina bakery. Back down at the bottom of Queen Anne see a movie at the Uptown. Have happy hour or dinner at Peso's or Ten Mercer. Check out the east side of the hill- Crow, Big Nabob, Panos Greek Taverna. Have a coffee at the espresso place right there. Go to the ballet. ok, maybe a weekend on QA would be better!
  11. The only time I was able to bring my own wine in without a corkage fee was to a bistro that was awaiting it's liquor license. Maybe they weren't suppose to do that!
  12. We are staying at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort in a few weeks for Spring Training. Can't wait to go back to Barrio! Are both Roaring Fork and Cowboy Ciao in Scottsdale? They sound great. We ate at Tarbell's last time too and loved it. Tried to go to Barmouch but it wasn't open that day. Anyone been to either lately?
  13. mmmm, that sounds good an easy!! what about an apple slaw. is there any cajun thing? I have apples and cabbage and I can't help but think a nice slaw would go well with our gumbo too??
  14. Are we talking about hushpuppies here, or something else, when you say "corn cakes"? Here in RI we take our stone ground corn thingies pretty seriously! ← What I am talking about are little pancakes made with corn. I'm not sure what a hushpuppy is These are maybe corn fitters only they are pan fried instead of deep fried. flour, baking power, eggs, milk, corn kernals, salt.
  15. this morning we had toasted slices of baguette topped with slices of grilled chorizo and fried quail eggs. So cute and tastey!! We were at Pike Place market last night and the items were our impulse buy!
  16. Simple dinner tonight- the rest of the char siu bao from the freezer and some bok choy sauteed with sesame oil, ginger, sesame seeds and rice wine vinegar.

    Bok Choy

Good stuff all, thanks!! I think what my grocer is calling baby is not because it is definatley bigger than fingers. Tonight I cut off the bottom and seperated the stalks. Then I sauted in sesame oil and chopped ginger. Added sesame seeds and some rice wine vinegar. They were very good but I think they needed some cross cutting first. I still have some so I'll try a few more ideas this weekend!
  18. The last two days have been a piece of toast with sliced avacado and salt and pepper. Yum!
  19. I loved our lunch at the Ferry Market Plaza! We enjoyed the oysters at Hog Bay (is that right??) and they also served a wonderful grilled cheese sandwich with bread from Acme and 3 cheeses from Cow Girl. That worked out very well for us. I also really liked Plouf for mussles, the ally it is in is soooo cute. Outside seating. didn't peak upstairs while at CP but thought the dinner downstairs was very good. Especially liked the little tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar. Have fun!
  20. So if any of you read my swiss chard post you will come to the conclusion that I don't do well with green leafy veggies. I'm trying to change that though. I've been getting a lot of baby bok choy in my organic shipment. Usually I steam them and then toss with sesame oil and seeds. Dumb question- am I suppose to just slice off the very bottom so they seperate and then steam them whole? or should I be chopping up the leaves and stalk? Or just the leaves or just the stalk?? Darn! This is why I eat a lot of meat, I KNOW what to do with that!
  21. I've been gone for a bit and just catching up, Percy I need to know more about the brocolli cheese rice! Please share your recipe!! Dinner last night was a selection of things we found in the house after returning from vacation. Lillet Blanc while cooking Spinach salad with bacon and tomatoes with wholegrain dijon vinaigrette Chicken breasts, baby carrots, sugar snap peas with thyme, lemon and white wine baked papiette. 2 Godiva heart chocolates for dessert. No pictures as I hadn't unpacked the camera yet!
  22. Had a very nice dinner at Wish, the restaurant is beautiful with the main dining room being outside- lots of plants, trees and little lights. The food and service were both very nice. I'd recommend it. A bit pricey but I think everything in SB is right?? Drinks after in the bar and up at the rooftop pool. Great mojitos. Wish is at The Hotel
  23. Just got done reading the recipe posted at the beginning. This is very similar to the recipe Della and I will use from dear ole Emeril. As with all things Em this one has a bit more meat and sausage and we have 2 big guys who will be enjoying this with us so that should work out well! We'll be using canola oil as my guy has a peanut alergy. We will also brown our sausage as someone mentioned. Gumbo Saturday here we come!
  24. alright! I'll look for some pickled okra (good luck here in Seattle hu??) We are thinking of making corn cakes and also a yummy salad. And beer! Is there a common beer in the south?
