  1. Myself and 3 others were in Montreal in Sept and ate at Toque. The thread on eg is titled "Montreal..." with the subtext of "what we ate, oh and what we saw"

I am a dork and don't know how to put the link here but if you search "Montreal" on the eg site it comes up on about pg 3 - last post Nov 20th.

OK - Toque - great restaurant - I would highly suggest you go!! We posted pictures (well LMF did and since she is my friend I like to say "we"  ) Let us know if you go.............

Here's the link to said review.

  2. Finally made it to Crush for dinner. We were meeting another couple so sat at the bar watching Chef Jason and crew crank out the meals. The drinks weren't very good- too sweet, but you can eat full menu there.

The upstairs is finished although we didn't get to see it as they were doing awine dinner.

Amuse was carrot soup with ginger and mint cream, very good and the largest amuse I've ever had!

1st courses ordered were the duck fries with poached duck egg and white asparagus, they forgot to put the 'fries' on and just brought them over on a seperate plate <_< , torchon of foie gras with rhubarb compote and brioche- by far the best, a huge serving of foie! Also ordered were the crab raviolis.

Entrees were the seared ahi, the halibut with duck 'lardo' and the lamb chops with morels and sausage (again the winning dish)

For dessert there was a tasting of chocolates which was good, buttermilk donuts which were just ok and banana brulee with dolce de leche which was really good, but a bit sweet for me.

The wine mark up seems to be a bit high, the other prices seem good. Our service was a little shaky but all in all it was good and we'll be back.

Oh and Nicole is very preggers! :)

  3. they will suffocate if you put them in the water.

I keep mussels overnight often. I take them out of the plastic and if they are also in a net bag I cut that open so they have room. I put some ice then a wad of wet newspaper in the bottom of a big bowl and the the shellfish, another piece of wet newspaper on top of them and maybe a bit more ice- but not enought that if it melts they will be submurged. Also don't beard them until right before you use them.

  4. I think Stephen was totally drunk on the reunion show! Just watched my tape last night and he seemed very slurry and the whole bit to Candice was OTT. Very amusing to watch though.

    Go Herold!

  5. Hi all,

I ended up at Thai Thani on Mon. night. It was good and the service very friendly. A huge place with carved Thai statues and the like, very pretty inside. The food was good and well priced.

Tues night I made it to Cedar's. Yum!! I made a meal of basterma, laban salad and fried kebbeh. It was all very good- I had never had Lebanese food before. Again service was excellent!

Last night I went back to Antonio's. very good again and the staff is OTT nice. The most expensive of the spots but nothing crazy.

Also while talking with one of my driver's about Cedars it turned out that he is Syrian and is opening a restaurant also on Sand Lake Rd called Mediterranian Kitchen soon.

  6. Elrushbo I haven't done both but in the kitchen you don't actually have a menu- it's the chef's choice. Also the chefs are very interactive, bringing the dishes in and discussing the plates. and of course the staff is very catering to you, a VIP type of attitude.

  7. We also have this same fridge. storing 60 bottles in it would be tough unless they were all Cab style bottles.

I keep stickies in the low 'bin'.

I like the cooler but mine also is not quite accurate on the temperature read out.

  8. You can skip Volterra, in my book. If you want Italian food of that genre, I'd go for Cafe Lago.

Cafe Lago is also great but they have totally opposite feels and menus. Volterra is a bit more upscale and Lago is more casual/family friendly. I like the food at both but again feel the menus are totally different with things like the best pizza and casual home made pastas on Lago's menus and a little more elegant presentations like noodles with Duck sauce (which is very yum!) at Volterra.

And it just happens that the owners of both restaurants are also very nice!

  9. Volterra is great, it is also in Ballard which is a wonderful area to explore and there happens to be a great wine shop, Portalis just 1 block from the restaurant! The whole street is full of interesting shops and restaurants.

Lark is a great choice too because it is very well priced and it's fun to share dishes with the one you love!

Boat Street, Le Pichet and Fork are all good choices in good price points too.

The other place I like to buy (and cellar) my wine is at Esquin which is a drive just south of the stadiums.
