  1. I have been advised by those that are familiar with such things, to not release my pepper rights. Trying to pull a fast one on an innocent newbie, huh???
  2. coquille, thanks for the info, I'm going to try Royal Thai and this place! Welcome to e-gullet. I assume you are in a more central part of the state..do you have other favorite places?
  3. Thanks...I have an extraordinary husband!
  4. Well, we know its ok for us...will Lou remmber?? Seriously, sounds great. Would Lou consider a salad option, for those of us that have a $1000 dollar bet to loose a certain amount of lb's by Jan 1? edited to add my thanks to Rosie and Lou for setting it up.
  5. Patrice, thanks for your report. This is an interesting point, and a pervasive problem at many restaurants that serve dessert tastings...I too often find that one dessert is above all others, and that the others are relegated to "filler" status.
  6. This looks like just what I was looking for. Although I doubt Mrs. Tommy's taste for apparent reasons, it certainly seems worth a trip.
  7. What kind of place is Marianna's? Retail gourmet? Deli? It's nearby, might be worth a visit.
  8. Frankie and Johnny's is a great place for business, which transpires during the week, not weekends. It's also a Hudson Cty "seen and be seen" place, which sometimes fits the bill.
  9. Ah, finally something in my neck of the woods..though when I'm in that area I head to Mei Thai...didn't find it in my phone book..where are they located? Thanks.
  10. Alas, many of these people are elected officials, whom I have little opportunity for getting to know to that level..and almost always in groups of 6 or larger. Usually, BYO's are smaller, so they are almost always excluded based on their ability to handle a larger group...I can imagine, however, that a fellow wine loving client could be suitably impressed with the right selections!! Certainly, DR@ AD's sounds like a place I should keep in mind instead of Amanda's all the time..or that Italian place with the roof garden. Or Frankie and Johnnie's, the choice of my meat craving husband! Thanks, Tom, Rosie and Tommy for the reccomendation.
  11. Also, I will be driving in from the exit 8A area of the NJ Turnpike. leaving at around 5. PM me if you are interested in a ride.
  12. Thanks for the info. While I agree that a nice local BYO has its place in the world, a restaurant doesn't make it on my radar without a liquor license. That's because in Hoboken, I would not be dining with close friends .. my fellow diners would be business aquaintainces, or clients. It is presumptuous to bring these types to a BYO...I would never consider it. Similiarly, I would not bring them to a strict ethnic restaurant, either. At least 75% of my more formal dining is a business meal. Truthfully, I just don't prefer a BYO...even if it s just my husband and I. I am willing to pay for the flexibility that a LL brings with it...I know this is not a popular e-gullet opinion, its just my opinion. But my e-gullet assistant, Georgio, when not mixing me margaritas or finding my most recent posts, agrees with me!
  13. Tom didn't mention if it was prix fixe, and Tommy's link noted that his look at the menu showed that it was...I'd be interested in knowing this detail. Sounds like its worth a visit, even though it s a BYO. I really enjoy Amanda's, but it would be nice to expand my Hoboken options...any chandce that they may pick up a liquor license?
  14. Only Suzan is qualified to discuss the size blender needed..but we can all atest to your oversized biceps!!
  15. I thought it was very good sushi, and the orange citrus tuna was really extraordinary. None of the rolls packed the kind of heat and intensity that I prefer, but they were balanced and the primary flavor ( salmon. lobster) had the opportunity to shine through. I've got to get all the sushi lovers down to my neck of the woods, to Bonzai, in the Princeton area, for the Taka wasabi and the fluke fin salad! Thanks Lou, for getting us together. It's nice sometimes when it is a small group and you have an opportunity to chat with everyone.
  16. Thought the idea of Tommy living in a town called the Borough of Orvil is an amusing thought, no?
  17. I would think so, becasue this sounds so delicious to me, I would inhale any servings not served immediately!!
  18. 2 x 0, your review was on the money. They do seem to turn over the cheese here, because every week they have new choices. Alas, I have settled for places like this because we do not live in France, where "fromageries" proliferate, and here a cheese store is a novelty. Anyone up for renting a chateau for a few weeks? How close is your nearest WEgman's? The Princeton shop will cut any of their extensive variety fresh, but there is not that intimate environment to talk with the purveyor. Though there is one cheese employee, very striking redhead, who loves the stuff and chats it up a bit, but she's rarely there.
  19. Hey, respectfully disagreeing? Are you sure you are on the right board? Anyway, I'm sure their quality is great, I just meant that I was looking for a more "intimate" cheese expereience, an opportunity to talk with the owner or such as they slice me a fresh wedge, etc. There are stores closer in my area that are similiar to this one, and I certainly go to and buy from them all the time..I was just looking for something different. And nothing beats a good deli counter! Enjoy!
  20. John, I live in the Trenton area, and am familiar with some of the locations you mentioned. To clarify, there is a Hamilton Twp, in Mercer Cty, which is very near the border of Burlington County. There is also a municipality, named Burlington, and that's near Camden. There is also a Burlington City in Burligton County. Florence is a township, and is in Burlington County, and there are other mailing adresses for Florence: Columbus is one. For those that are not familiar with townships, Townships are more a central/southern thing: they are a cluster of different communities, with different mailing adresses, that share services and schools and government. Hope any of this helps.
  21. Thanks for the report, Dbl. That's not quite what I'm looking for..so you saved me the trip! I like to taste and converse and buy small wedges of lots of types.
  22. Sounds great..what county is Maywood in? What larger town is it near. to give me an idea of location? Thanks.
  23. ok by me..though why people felt obligated to PM you instead of just posting it, I can't imagine. It works with some crowds, particularly when no one knows each other, ...but in this case, since there are a few people whom are already friends and have dined together before, it might be best to let nature takes its course.
  24. re: circulating How does the group feel about this as an approach to circulating? Using birthdates, number of children, a variety of innocuous (sp?) criteria, each person rotates either left or right to another table after each course. I've done school functions and charity events where it works quite well. For example, after the first course, the person with the next upcoming birthday rotates to the table to the right. Next course, the person with the oldest child moves left. Then the person with the most pets goes right..it doesn't assure that Everyone meets everyone, but it does mix it up a bit. Sometimes people don't want to move, but usually there is a good sport at the same table that will move, or just skip that table. Just an idea, but its reasonably democratic and if the objective is to meet people in addition to have a wonderful feast, it does accomplish this with a friendly type of minimal intrusion. Sophmoric, perhaps, but effective. It also works if you number the chairs, but that takes a little more prep work.
