  1. Yes, they're eating these in Philly, too! http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST&f=6&t=17307
  2. This seems like it would be difficult in winter climates...assuming you have central heating in the house, even if you turn the vent or fan in the converted room off, the room might get too warm..or too cold. If its too cold, you can open the door and let some heat in, if its too warm you will not be able to run a window unit in the freezing temps...I would imagine a system like this would demand constant monitering with variable results. edited to add that the unit we have says Breezaire, my husband made all the decisions regarding the cellar so I can't contribute much besides the name.

    Shad roe season

This is a very cool book, I learned about it on egullet, and ordered it on Amazon...this fictional orchid grower seemed to like MANY things casserolled and with cream!!
  4. Rich, I was less enthused, but since my visit a few weeks ago, two or three folks RAVED about thier meal..so I leave it open to perhaps making bad choices. I did have ethe skewers..I thought the meat wsa very tough. Soem of hte sauces were wonderful, but that orange one, if its the same one, was a little sweet to me. Your enthusiasm warrants another visit... I was ready to dismiss it as a place that was trying to be all things to all people..and making up for quality with quanity..but I thank you for your report, and I'll let you know about visit #2.

    Shad

I would really appreciate any kind of recipe for shad Roe, or just general preperation ideas. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for hte reply, Andrew..they certainly look like they can contribute to the "fat" part of Fat Tuesday! I might need to save this treat for another year.
  7. I can't edit my post any longer, but I misread your original post: translated Cajun to New Orleans..my mistake. I would not consider Bayonna Cajun, though Acme might fit the bill..although its noted for its oysters, mostly..which transcend a category.

    Dinner! 2003

Theres no coconut milk in the rice, just coconut shavings. Rachel will post the recipe soon on recipes.egullet.com great, will look forward to it...once this recipe thing gets up and going,it will be an invaluable resource.
  9. So. fromthe pix, I'm assuming these are some kind of deep fried jelly donut that 's glazed??? I googled it, didn't get much, definitions appreciated.

    Dinner! 2003

Pictures are great, thanks Jason..is their coconut milk in the recipe, and do you find the coconut rice a bit much? I always think of doing both, but chicken out and do the regular jasmine rice. BTW, Kris, if I send you a digital camera, will you post photos?? And snowangel, I want pix of Diana cooking..or better yet perusing all the cokbooks, deciding on the meal!

ok. ok, use the old " I bought the discount steak while looking for a good pork butt" excuse..but another thing, the plates are way to 1993's....teal is the dead give away. Hey, I own them to, just trying to warn you..

    T-Bone

OK, really, that cat is freaky. edited to remove the long run on sentance fueled by red wine, which goofed on Stone for buying steak at Costco.
  21. No new ideas, just second-ing ( is that a word??!!) the Saveur recipe...I also served it with ice cream..Breyer's Vanilla Bean...I have way fewer dinner parties( and way too many pot lucks..pls. just let me cook.)....than I would like..but this was a winner, with six close friends.
  22. this link should be here, too. http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?act=ST...hl=amish+market
  23. Ok, just HOW BIG is that new kitchen of yours? Is he lost somewhere in it? I'd like to come, but can't commit. I'll keep updated on the info, see how life looks closer to lift off.
  24. whew...ducking for cover..but looking forward to the show...
  25. Thanks for reminding me of that. Totally forgot about Tom in that action, and it's an excellent point. We're talking late 1970s and early 1980s here... As they say in Republican circles..I know Tom Collichio...and he's no Dennis Foy!!! Good Ol'Days!
