Not to mention Memphis Pig Out, My favorite waitress works there! (She's also an elementary school teacher, real estate agent and was recently elected to the Atlantic Highlands Town Council) But alas, Bistro Zeeto has closed...
  2. It would have been doable, but alas as you say it is moot.
  3. would'nt that make it an American Trattoria?

  5. I asked folks at ChefsTable.com, ChileHeads and FoodWine and only got one response. Their loss!
  6. There is an addition of one lady, Nancee, from the ChileHead Mailing list. I talked to Rich at the restaurant today and he informed me that the Liquor store that is closest to the restaurant is owned by a cranky old guy who only stays open until he gets tired, and that Sunday in Summertime is particularly tiring, so you might want to lug your particular choice of BYO in. Looks like we are 18 people. As we added 3 more folks since I chose the appetizers I added a course of Spring Rolls to the appy listing. I also specified that 2 of the 3 Mussel appetizers be mild and one be medium. There is no problem with 18 to 20 folks from ordering off the menu, so these fears may be laid to rest (Is that layed? I can never figure that out, one is obscene... ) Looking forward to seeing you all!
  7. We're getting down to the wire! See you all in a couple of days!
  8. Down here the liquor stores are open 7 days a week, I'm not sure about Middlesex County.

I've found the usefulness of the guide varies according to the city. NYC and DC seem pretty good, some of the smaller cities seem swayed by the editors in charge of the compilation.

Good show Steven! You've come a long way from hawking NYC hotdogs on PBS! Actually that show was pretty good too...
  12. Note: The $30 is all inclusive, meal, tax and gratuity. Will be collecting the money at the beginning, so exact change is appreciated.
  13. Jason, will you be bringing samples of Pocky to the dinner? We can recreate some of the Pocky commercials... "Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!" I will NOT however dye my hair or don a Japanese Schoolgirls uniform...
  14. The upshot of all this is that you can't buy beer, cold or otherwise, in a supermarket unless they have a liquor license and ring it up on a separate register. Other quirks in NJ: BYO restaurants are not allowed to advertize they are BYO (Almost never enforced) Waitstaff in BYO place can open but not pour wine (Ditto) Hard liquor is not permitted in BYO (Never enforced)
  15. You can buy beer on Sundays in NJ, I'll call the restaurant and see if there is a place within walking distance. I'm bringing my little flexible 6-pack cooler.
  16. No, you just get to say: "Hey! Four other folks have ordered that!"
  17. Being that the meal is on a Sunday night, and they are warned ahead how many folks will be coming (Wife of one of the owners is lurking... Hi! ), I don't see a problem. Certainly the folks who are attending are aware of the concerns as they are also monitoring this thread, as evidenced by the recent activity. In the week until the meal, between perusing the Menu Online, and chatting during the appetizer on Sunday, we will absolutely have a great time! I seriously doubt we run the risk of having everyone order the same dish. I hereby nominate Rosie as the "Sharing Moderator" of this dinner, and as such bestow upon her the Order Of The Flaming Smiley:
  18. We worked it out with the management at the restaurant similarly to the last few NJ Dinners: $30 per person covers as many appetizers as we have guests, served "Family Style" Soups ordered individually off the menu. These would be hard to share... Entrees orderd from menu, but served on separate serving platters. We can decide here or at the restaurant how to arrange sharing. This is what Jason, Rachel and I did, though it did flame her out of some of the hotter dishes. A selection of sorbets at the end to cool us down. The owner says this should be no problem as long as the whole party does not simultaneously order Pineapple Sorbet... Remember, Mie Thai is BYO... Soft Drinks are included
  19. Mie Thai serves their entrees in separate platters with serving spoons, so it's pretty much family style already. It is up to the individual as to whether they want to share it (I'm Game, we do it all the time anyway). Also, this is a BYO establishment, so those who want to imbibe will have to bring their own beer or wine. Updated list: Jason & Rachel Rosie and Lowell Rail Paul & Dee Me and a Guest Nina and guest? No, and they're not making Orlotan Pie.
  21. Well, I was waiting, but felt compelled to say something about it. Where's the Pocky Boys Drill team? Is Pocky being specifically targeted at pre-teen girls? Is it a marketing conspiracy? Meanwhile Jon, Have you been getting my PMs? I seem to be sending out messages to several folks and not getting replies. Was wondering about your attending the NJ Thai Dinner this coming Sunday (Sorry to post this publically, but as noted the PMs aren't doin' it...)

Sorry to let the Spam out of the can, but this was on the TV Guide Website: With quirky segment intros and a breezy style that departs from the series' usual format, the hour recalls how the couple met in law school and took a trip to Paris, where they compiled an informal restaurant guide. They did the same in New York, and turned their survey into a business after it grew popular in the '80s, becoming, as food critic Steven Shaw says, “the two most feared individuals in the American restaurant industry.” Gee, did Fat-Guy manage to work in an eGullet plug?

I want to get the details on the alleged stabbing that was reported years ago but was glossed over in the press...
  24. I don't know that I'd be comfortable doing that. I felt OK ordering the appetizers for 2 reasons: The apps really don't have any heat issues other than the mussels, and I had tried all the apps so was familiar with them (Actually went there last week and did a "Tasting" of appetizers). Frankly, there is about 90% of the entree menu items that I've not tried, so I felt uneasy trying to sort them out. I figured the family style apps and entrees ordered from the menu worked well at Bella Rosa, so figured trying it with this meal.
  25. Beg to differ... I've got the character sets on my browser, and could see them fine on the Pocky site. In fact I cut and pasted them from the site into the eGullet text input box and they were gobbldygook from thereon. Are you telling me you're seeing Japanese characters in the above posts?
