Fascinating post Ammini, one wishes there was a time machine for such regressive escapades. Single cow ghee reminds of my other favourite drink. I guess this one could be called Cowdhu.

Bhappi Da truly is the genius of his genre. Only he is capable of doing an amazing turnaround when he sues Dr. Dre for plagiarism He is also the man who loses 20 kg weight when he removes his jewellery and embellishments. "You are my samosa You are my masala dosa You are my chocolate You are my cutlet You are my rossogolla You are my rasmalai"

Sounds absolutely yum!

Pasta manufacturers have now realised that 2 minute noodles and italian pasta are two different things. Recent stocks reflect that they are using strong flours( durum) which dont mush.

Monica, You might want to try inserting a rose petal in the centre, works better than a pista.

One of the best Gulab Jamun mixes is made by Chitale's of Poona. No, it is the best.

Sorry, I forgot I had replaced it with- Green pea and corn cake with cauliflower and potato stir-fry. Not many would appreciate Pigeon.

Pim, I use it to make Thai curry pastes and sometimes I shred it into my Som Tam. How else would you suggest I use it in Thai.

I've also wondered the same thing, trust the good Doctor to know all such gutterspeak. It was the same word that spawned the restaurant Cinnamon Club. Google for the two words and you'll get it. Google for my name and the restaurant and you get a pigeon recipe.

Recipe for 'Vegetarian Gohrmeh Sabzi ' (sic) from the Oregonian. I've always wanted to use the phrase-'sic'. There now!

One panacea for all ---CHOCOLATE! Pure, raw, no raisins, no nuts, no nuthin, only the plain dark brown stuff! I buy the raw material. Goes well with anything-Malt, Cognac, Cigars,Wo.......... Has Phytochemicals, Antioxidants, Phenylethlamines, -->Dark chocolate 50g =300 mg Polyphenols (natural antioxidants) -->Green Tea 240 ml =400 mg Polyphenols -->Wine 140 ml =170 mg Polyphenols Come to think about it, I'm prepared to believe any lies about it.

A long awaited Ladoo from Tirupati, arrived yesterday, sigh!

Sorry just realised that there was an earlier topic that may connect here. Is Indian food finally hot, now that critics are using it to pepper their review of Bombay Dreams?
-
Does this mean that Indian cuisine is to act as a precursor before other cultural forays? Half jokingly - does this mean that curry has replaced the Elephant (" Yes, I take my elephant to school" ) as a symbol of India?
-
I think Peppertrail-Ammini will have to say something interesting on this.

The $14 million Lloyd Weber Indo-British musical, “Bombay Dreams,” after fair success during its 2-year run in London, was finely chopped and grilled to well done by local and national U.S. media when it premiered at the Broadway Theater on April 29th. Bombay Dreams may have done okay in UK but the Americans have given it a big thumbs down, or all digits down. The funny part is that many of the metaphors are food based ..... "a syrupy stew of faintly spiced pop clichés, suggests the equivalent of a Big Mac sprinkled with curry powder.” “overheated curry, although adapted for American tastes, may not appeal to every palate”. “as though someone sprinkled garam masala over the score for Aspects Of Love and called it a day.” I wonder if it had anything to do with Madhur Jaffrey who stars in the show. Sak or more correctly shaak is a term used by Gujaratis ( like the famous Patels!) to denote a vegetable preparation, eg. Alu (Potato) Shaak.

The prawns I can understand as India is price competitive. Why on earth would anyone prefer frozen fish? Or dont you all get fresh fish?

I have bought Amba haldi in the Patel Brothers in NJ number of times. They always have two varieties of Haldi, one is Amba haldi. It is orangish inside and sour in taste. I have seen lot of caribbeans also buying it at Patel Bothers, they call it mango ginger. Yep, that's the one! I wonder how the caribbeans use it.

I buy my fish from chinese market in New Jersey and I have seen lots of packaging which they keep outside marked with Indian or Bangladeshi cargo mark. They have live Eel kept at the counter and it is in the Air Biman cargo boxes, similalrly I have bought Pomfret there with Bombay cargo markings. Also seen shrimps with Orissa packging in that shop as well as in Costco. So lot of fish does come from India it seems. I'm surprised, I would have thought the cost of air freighting fish to US would be prohibitive.
