Did the place in Roppongi with the Kheema Burgers close? They were the best.

    Quick Pasta

Taragon...add a little taragon to the sauce...also, if you use a pressure cooker, you will be pleased with the results of your sauce.

    Odd Tableside Ceremonies

When I lived in Japan, my neighbor took a class in learning how to open a bottle of champange with a sword, by decapitation. I thought this a fairly odd party trick. Imagination runs off..... "I am at a party such as New Years or a Wedding. I see Champange...I take unopened bottle...I request if anyone has a sword...well no, nobody happens to be wearing one at the moment...I guess you understand what I mean."

    Burger Club

Hamburger Harry's is right around the corner from the Virgin Megastore in Times Square...next to the Bertlesmann building. Nothing was particularly good there. I agree w/ you re. Burger Heaven's prices. Now have we ever done where do get the best burger overseas? Because the Kheema Burger in Tokyo might be a winner.
  6. Check out the Quirky Japan Website's comparrison of the Yaki Imo Man Vs. The Ice Cream Man. It's great http://www3.tky.3web.ne.jp/~edjacob/food.html - basicly the Yaki Imo Man is the Ice Cream Man's Evil Twin....
  7. This I know...I am actually trying to get exact prices...everything I've found has been this nebulous. Thanks for the input.

    Burger Club

Thank you. I have been interested in the PM Burger for some time. The Kaluba burger is a huge beef burger with some very good toppings (fried onions, tomato, ham and American cheese among them) - the "bleeps" at Jackson Hole have stolen this name as well. I think that burger choice is very personal, like pizza choice (I am a Lombardi's eater but have great respect for Totonno's [Coney Island only]). I should have mentioned how disappointing I have found Hamburger Harry's and Burger Heaven lately...although I did buy Richard Branson a Burger at Burger Heaven once.

    Burger Club

Hello, newbie here, I have enjoyed the Big Nicks Burger, JG Melon is okay, The Velsuka burger is fine, Corner Bistro is acceptable, Pauls works for me, the Odessa Burger is not worth it, hate Jackson Hole, enjoy White Castle, Suzies Sliders are no match, will be trying the Luger Burger on Monday - but I haven't seen my favorite burger (and sorry 54 pages is a lot to digest) mentioned, the Kaluba Burger at Cozy Soup and Burger.
  10. This is a very depressing thread. Food should be happier.

    More stirfrys

I second, third, and fourth the advice from Bond Girl et al regarding using a carbon steel wok. I have had the same one from the Pearl River Dept store on Canal Street for around ten years. Indespensible. Like a Lodge cast iron frying pan, or a cast iron dutch oven, why spend extra money for something more expensive and doesn't do the job half as well - Le Creuset for Asian food? Pah. Oh and when you buy the wok, spend another three dollars on the bamboo cleaning brush - it works great for the Lodge type frying pan as well, no soap, gentler than steel wool and never rusts.

    Donburi

So NYC now has two Yoshinoya's (one of my favorites after alnight drinking in Tokyo, a little beef, egg, rice, and miso soup before bed). Due to health regulations, raw eggs cannot be offered at the shops in NYC - my question, what do you think will happen if I wrap an egg from my house, and bring it with me for the gyudon next time I go? I am seriously considering it - but not looking for any problems with management.
  13. Potato Chips have a claim here...and let's not forget Buffalo Wings.
  14. Ahhh I miss Japanese Sausages. I live in Manhattan, right near Schaller and Webber (the sausage mecca of NYC), yet I crave those sausages sometimes - with a little karashi. Yum.

    Mos Burger

I have been to the Honolulu branch. In Japan, I first discovered MOS Burger when I didn't live near one - most of the MOS Burgers in my area were only reachable by car - and I didn't have one for the longest time. Then I bought a car and moved, my new town hand a MOS burger within a five minute walk. Go figure. Anyway I'd like to send a shout out to the MOS Chili dog, the best hot dog in Japan.
  16. HEY! Sorry to shout, I'm new here and have a couple of questions. A. I will be losing my Luger's virginity on Monday at lunch. The deal is a group of friends will be meeting to get burgers (all of us are teachers, so we are POOR! - however we are all absolute food junkies/semi experts and argue the merits of different basmics and the like). Should I decide to "go all the way" as I am seduced by the scents and sights of steaks surrounding my table, how much is a steak going to set me back? What are the prices of other must haves for the burger - I have read enough to know that I do not want to ask for a menu - but I want to know if I'll escape lunch for around sixty bucks. Also what does a beer run, is there a bar that we wait in, how much is that bacon for the burger, what comes with the burger, should I order the fries, or is there a side that I should try, how much for a shrimp cocktail, so much to know. I appreciate your advice. B. As I am new here (first post), I don't mean to be pushy and rude, so if I am in anyway breaching local protocol or etiquette, please let me know. Or if their is some "newbie" entrance area that I should stop by to check my reservation before waiting for a table in the bar, point out where it is. Cheers!
