See I told you not to pay attention to the sushi-nyc site
  2. good for amy - the walk(she is doing the one down the hudson, right?) is an experience and for a good cause as well. well, if you want suvir's lamb burgers you are welcome to schlep to the hinterlands. since i'm single until tomorrow night i decided to make stuff johnnybird doesn't like - hence some fresh ground lamb, greek yoghurt, a salad of cukes, red onion and tomato and silver queen corn. i would rather stay home on a friday or saturday night than deal with the hustle and bustle of the restaurant scene. now sunday or tuesday night- especially if i have had to work are great times for me to eat out. Geez Suzi and I was gonna see if you wanted to go out for dinner

I wouldn't pay any attention to the reviews on that site. When my wife and I went to JB in April, we found the service to be great and Jack's descriptions of each course classic and not pretentious. My suggestion is to get the sake flight with the omakase because some of Jack's descriptions of the sakes are funny as hell. Cheers Tom PS the review on that site that stated stick to Nobu. Hello .... Nobu is fusion not really Japanese (I'll wait for the flaming from Nobu fans )
  4. HEY!!!! We're not sick it's all in the way you use vegemite. You need a piece of toast, alot of butter and then just a scrape of vegemite and then you're set. SHEESH AMERICANS !!!!

  6. I always fly United Business through to NYC from Australia (thank god for flyer miles ) The last few times I've actually seen a huge improvement in the food, the only problem being that because I usually fly NYC-LA-Sydney at night I end up with the same meals on both legs The last meal I had on United was smoked salmon and salad, followed by fillet mignon and bernaise sauce then on the next leg I skipped the seafood salad and had fillet mignon in a red wine reduction. Cheers Tom

  9. Smart Ass!!! I'm going to have to go with an old favourite of mine that being Angelo & Maxies at Park & 19th. I know there are better steakhouses in NYC but I think for the price A&M is a good deal. A couple can walk out of there completely sated with food and drink (inc tax and tip) for about $125. Cheers Tom http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=40167&hl=
  10. Damn they look good Cheers Tom
  11. There's a place on Mott Street (Japanese name and all ) that sells all sorts of Japanese snacks and candies. I can't remember the name of it BUT there's a good chance you could get them there. They sell everything ranging from dried shrimp snacks, dried crabs done in soy to various candies --- sorry but I was more interested in the shrimp, crab and squid snacks so I can't tell you if they definitely have them . Aji Ichiban 37 Mott, 212-233-7650. Goodluck Cheers Tom Edit: coz I found the name, address and phone number
  12. bacon and maple syrup MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
  13. Gees where do I start in the Central Market. I spose I'll do this by product which will probably make it easier. For Fruit & Veg: Fred McMahons Coco'c Tropical Central Mushrooms - besides buttons and field mushrooms, you can usually get enokis, shitakes, truffle oil and various other types of mushrooms Asian Gourmet - A huge selection of Asian vegetables, herbs other Asian goods. Don't forget to pick up some Pocky from there. For Seafood: Samtass - for live oysters, crays and mudcrabs Angelakis Bros - for fresh cooked crays, whole fish and octopus For Poultry: Angelakis Bros - great for quail, duck, guinea fowl, squab and poussin For Smallgoods: There's ONLY one place to go Standom Smallgoods - absolutely brilliant sausages (chorizo, hunters, salami). They also do high quality cuts of meat. Their veal is superb. For Meat: Marino Meats - I love this place. A great Italian butcher. I usually grab a couple of bracciole, some osso bucco, hot italian sausages and when they have them rabbits. Their veal is also great and the prosciutto is heaven General: I usually grab coffee from Coffee Connection. Right beside there is a place that specializes in olives and about a million olive oils which is really good. Cheese I get from Say Cheese.... a great selection. For quite a good selection of wines, beer and spirits try the liquor store in Market Arcade (on the way to Victoria Square) Enjoy Cheers Tom http://www.adelaide.sa.gov.au/centralmarket/map_print.htm http://www.adelaide.sa.gov.au/centralmarket/stores.htm
  14. The title of this blog really got me Goodluck, I'm really looking forward to this Cheers Tom
  15. food will actually be the last thing on my mind once I get ready to board the 12 hour flight with a four hour layover and another 2 hour flight with 3 small children, all alone..... 12 hours?? Is that all?? Try Adelaide, Australia through to NYC then an hour and a half drive thru to NJ with a 5 and 3 year old .... oh and the wife. I'm trying to work out who's the worst of the three of them
  16. There's a decent Tex-Mex place in the international terminal in SFO BUT the best I've come across would have to be the Oyster Bar in the domestic terminal in Sydney. God Sydney rock oysters, a touch of lemon and a beer you cant get much better than that
  17. I think the funniest thing that happened to me was I had said items (tampons and diapers) in my trolley one time and the guy at the checkout looked at me and said: "You might as well stop and pick up a couple of bottles of JD coz you're weekend's screwed" Cheers Tom The more I thought about this, the harder I laughed! Thanks for the anecdote! At least someone gets it ---- it still makes me laugh Cheers Tom

  19. Here's a list of some decent places in Adelaide: T-Chow just off Gouger Street on Moonta Street. One of the most unassuming places you'll find in the city. My wife and I walked past it a million times before deciding to try it. It's authentic Chinese with a printed menu and specials written in both Chinese and English, written on butcher's paper on the wall. Atmosphere isn't 5 star but the food is great. Our favourites here are the wontons, scallops on the halfshell with garlic, salt and pepper squid and the T-Chow fried rice. A good and decently priced wine list. Cost for 2 with wine usually about $90AUD Gaucho's right on Gouger Street. This is a meat lovers paradise. Great staff and a really great atmosphere. The food is Argentinian thus explaining all the meat. Favourites here include chargrilled fillet steak, fresh mussels, baby rabbit, and if you go in a group their seafood platter -crab, mussels, oysters, barramundi, yabbies is stunning!!!!! Cost for 2 with wine about $120AUD Star of Siam again on Gouger Street. As you may have guessed it's Thai. I haven't been for a number of years but from all reports things haven't changed. The food is good, wine list very good and the staff friendly without being a pain in the ass My favourite was always the Thai prawn salad... spicy with just the right kick of lime mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sorry I can't help you with prices on this one. Matsuri right at the end of Gouger Street (West Tce end). Japanese with everything ranging from a sushi bar, to tables, to a Japanese section. This restaurant crossed the whole section of Japanese cuisine, sushi, sukiyaki, shabu shabu etc etc etc. They alos have a great wine list and sake list. The sakes range all the way from Japanese sakes to Australian sakes which have just started being produced in Queensland. Price for 2 with wine, sake, a couple of sapporo is usually about $120AUD. Hopefully some of these will help you on your trip to our beautiful city. Enjoy Tom PS If you need anymore help just PM me
  20. I have lost ALL respect for you hillvalley.
  21. Make sure the class action also states "for wasting egullet members time in supermarkets looking for weird stuff to suggest he tries."
  22. Tom: From what I've gathered from my new best friends and a bit of research on my own regarding their wineries, Fonthill has the smallest production at about 200 cases each for their Dust of Ages Grenache wines. All their vineyards are in McLaren Vale. Annvers has holdings in McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek as well as Adelaide Hills and specializes in Shiraz and Cabernet. Two Hands is by far the largest operation with holdings in all the aforementioned places as well as Padthaway, Barossa Valley and your beloved Clare Valley. Although best known for their Shiraz wines, they also produce Grenache, a Shiraz-Cabernet blend and a low alcohol fizzy and sweet Moscato type wine. The Moscato sounds really interesting, and I've yet to see it on these shores. I didn't have the pleasure of trying any of the Fonthill or Annvers wines since they didn't have any with them, but I will be on the hunt for them so I can try them and e-mail my new buddies and tell them how much I love their wines. I'm pretty sure after hearing them talk about the care they put into it, I'm very unlikely to be disappointed. I'll have to do some research and see who they get their grapes from in the Clare Valley. I'm sorry if I sound a little too pro Clare Valley Katie but I currently live in The Valley and I seriously think it's underestimated and overlooked a lot of the time...... MMMMM Annie's Lane, Leasingham, Taylors, Barry's, Grossets and I believe another 100 boutique wineries. I might have to buy a few dozen and ship them when we move to NJ. Dinner anyone?? Cheers Tom
  23. YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEE a South Australian finally makes it to NJ. Pity it's not from the Clare Valley tho Cheers Tom
