Ahhh....you Canucks.... Bring down some Cheemo pierogies, wouldja? I LOUDLY second Anita...Mama's Mexican BLOWS. Kitschy Decor, rotten food, and attitude aplenty when I've been there. Elliots. Oceannaire if you are in the mood to spend some dosh. If you really want to go slumming though, you could hit up the true Seattle tourist experince that is Ivar's on the Pier...Make sure that you hold your french fries out REALLY far from your face and eat them slooooowly....Ok, not really. Those damn gulls will pretty much eat them out of your hand...

GLAD to hear about Cafe Ori...'cause I was at The Pacific Garden last night and was told that they would be closing in June... First Koraku, then Cam and Anita leaving, now this.... Yesterday was a personal sad day for Seattle food. On the bright side, tho, the 2 folx I took to Pac G. really liked it, and they now know what Chinglish food is...

SEA: Last-minute lunch at Tutta Bella
Fay Jai replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
FINALLY made it in to Tutta Bella today....about a 6 or a 7 out of 10. I will say this...Damn, they use a lot of flour. We sat right in front of the pizza maker and we were aghast at how much flower they used. (and when we got our pies, we could TASTE how much flower they used.) I gotta agree with Irwin and others on this thread. Sadly undercooked. 10-15 itsy bitsy seconds more, and they would have been miles better then what they were. I'm sorry, I was a bad egulleteer and did not take the names down of the pies that we had. I DO remember the special of the Day, the Pizza Umbria. (Ok, it was my choice.) I liked the pancetta and loved the potatos. However, (IMHO) the pancetta was sliced too thick and did not even begin to crisp/brown, not even a little bit. The other thing that stood out topping wise, on one of the other pizzas that were ordered, the pizza featured basil, and there was barely any to be found. Didn't like how they ran the ordering system either. Kinda weird, and by the time we were done, their rush had started, and we didnt feel like standing in the line again to get espresso. And, I'm gonna sound like a partisan here...but I like our Caeser better as well. Anchovies optional? Anchovies MANDATORY! Croutons were nice and well cooked, but kind of...."eh". If I go again, I'll try their "Pizza Salad". However....Now I know where they are....and NOW I know where the Silver Fork, The Wellington, Roy's BBQ, Jones BBQ, and, in what is probably the most exciting find of the day, a mysterious storefront operation called....The Chicken Shack. The Chicken Shack. That is just too funny. Anybody know when it's open? Jason -
Our customers can't eat it all either, though it's nice to see them try. After Friday service, all food gets cooled and bagged for delivery to a local homeless shelter. Pat ←

Hi Pat --- Duh. I'm AM an idiot, you have it a few entries up. Sorry. I'm an idiot for forgetting, but when are your hours again? Thanks! Jason P.S. Tho...what's the story with buffet day? I can't make it Thursday and those Lamb Chops look inviting. Will they be available Friday? J.

IF The Pacific Cafe is the one on the corner, I think I would suggest that over the Purple Dot. Dunno, the Purple Dot just seems a little slick and corporate to me. Infinetly (sp?) more important then that though, my Dad says that the Pacific Cafe reminds him of the restos that my Grandpa would take him to in Hong Kong, just after the war. He remembers them well, as that was a huge treat for him. I ate at a few of those places myself when I was there with my Uncle. He called it "Chinglish" food...which I think is a: Frickin Hilarious, and b: spot on right. Toast with Condensed milk, a bowl of Borscht, hot Coca Cola, and Baked Fish with Cheese over Rice, anyone?

A dear friend is moribund, and we fear he will be passing soon. We have really NO experience in making casseroles or that type of thing, but we want to make something to take to the family when nature takes its course. Is there a thread on this, or does anyone have any suggestions at all? The family isn't really into anything really exotic, just a simple, Middle American type dish would be best, I think... Many Thanks, Jason

Thanks to the other stores, we still have some of the Salumi left. Seriously. We'll have it on the line tomorrow, wednesday the 9th., and then for real, that will probably be it until next year. -
Well, ok, it isn't tomorrow... (Montrachet...Byron, who is British, thought that a drink featuring Jack, Wild Turkey and Southern Comfort would be perfect for me, the sole American on the floor. My apologies to Mr. James Beam, I'm sure that Bryon would have included you had he remembered LOL ) SO....Vancouver. We arrived at around 11:30 AM on Saturday morning and stayed at the Comfort Inn Downtown on Granville. (Sort of loud, and stepping over BC's street kids in the morning brought back pleasant memories of the Ave Rats that I get to deal with at work. Otherwise, pretty ok for the $$$.) Went to Le Crocodile to try to get lunch, as I had checked the website THAT MORNING and they had said that they were open for lunch. We got there, and they obviously were not open for lunch. We asked the ladies there where we might be able to get some French, they suggested Joe Fortes? We knew of a place on Robson where we had gone b4 for lunch (we found out when we walked by it was Hermitage.) They said what kind of resto Fortes was, and I reiterated my desire for French. They suggested Bacchus. Walked to Bacchus, and saw that they were still serving their brunch menu, which looked like most other higher end brunches. We took a pass. Yeah, Bacchus is good...but I didn't come to BC to eat food that I could eat in Seattle. Walked Robson to see if the place whose name we couldn't remember was open. It was Hermitage, and it wasn't. (What do ya'll think of this place, btw?) Gave up and went to Joe Forte's, as we were starving and were impressed with the fact that Le Crocodile suggested it. Amber had Eggs Benedict, and I had the seafood hash. Both were very good, I could really taste the smoke on the grilled scallops and shrimp. Delicious. Did the Robson Granville walk and went back to the hotel for a nap. Got up too late and went to the bar downstairs to see if we could get some absinthe. Doolin's Irish Pub? I don't think so. The tall, willowy blond with the badly plucked eyebrows and even worse attititude sniffed to us that we could come back at 9pm to get it at the club downstairs, otherwise we could try a place called Sip? Sit? She couldn't remember. We decided to just stay there and have Martinis. Now, I don't know where she learned to make drinks, or matbe this is a Vancouver thing, but even if it is a "Vodka" martini, I expect some vermouth in it. Is that so wrong? She ended up dribbling some into Amber's "martini", which otherwise would have just been a shot of Ketel One. Oh, and what bartender doesn't know what Lillet is? She positively glared at me when I asked for it. So, onto Cafe de Paris. After getting taken for a ride by our taxi driver, (and knowing it! ) we got there, and, after a warm greeting, were seated a table away from where we had eaten on our honeymoon Then we got our waiter.....(More later, gotta go for now...)

Stay Tuned...We will be getting some more finnocchiona here at the U-Dist. I'll post when we decide to run it on the line, but most likely it will be Saturday, probably with our new seasonal, Pizza Bianca. Thanks! Jason -

Hi All --- And Anita! I see you are active on this topic now. SO glad that you all like the pie! It's been doing REALLY well for us. I'm glad that hopefully some new people are getting turned onto both our pizza and Armandino's meats! -
Hey Deborah, i know this is totally off topic, but werre you at the Scissor Sisters on Friday, i thought i saw you from afar.... ok back to you crazy rabbits! Oh and what about Cafe de Paris, they have very reasonable priced set menus, I like the atmosphere and their steak Frites.. hmmnn so good I could eat them right now! ← Actually...Yeah, what about Cafe de Paris? Turns out that I think that is the place that Amber and I went on our honeymoon. Still any good or old and tired out? (We can go back for our anniversary...this is MY day! )

YAY!!!! I made the crew each try a slice or two tonight...They all really liked it. The finnocchiona really mellows out with cooking. (Pre pizza, it is pleasantly peppery........Um, say that 10 times fast...) Everyone agreed it had a full, rich flavor. Nice. I'm really stoked about this pie, can you tell? Jason -

Apparently it is doing very well at the Broadway Pizzeria on their slice line today. Remember: Saturdays and Wednesdays at the U-district!
