Oh I love it too, but I really don't think the Melting Pot could do it right! No No No! and if they did I would avoid it. ← Why? I love raclette - better than fondue. ←

Oh how could I forget the Indian Spice and Appliance store. THE place to go for your PAL, Bollywood and Indian spice needs! Indian Spice and Appliances 220 Volts (703) 522-1555 3000 10th St N Arlington, VA 22201

Don't forget the Euro-Latino Grocery for all your Portugese food needs, including fresh sardines and the dried salt cod. 2700 Pershing Dr. (at Washington Blvd). Euro-Latino

Well I lived in NoVa for maybe 15-20 years, went to high school there and we always called it Nova.
-
You are 100% wrong. I'm 100% certain that no one born and raised in northern virginia calls it nova. I can't speak to places like Culpepper County or Manassas or other far out places because, well c'mon...Culpepper? If you want to fit in, don't call it nova. Who wants to sound like they are from Manassas anyway? Back on topic: I also like Whitlow's on Wilson and they have 1/2 price burgers on mondays. Northern Virginia is also good for korean food, especially Annandale. ←

I remember it being quiet but it was years ago too. Al Tiramisu? Have they done something to the space to make it quiet? I ate there not very long after they opened (and hated it), and it was one of the noisiest places I've ever been (as were BeDuCi and Verdi before it in the same space). Has this changed? ←

I guess you are not the only one having an issue with this (unless its you): From Tom's Chat Fairfax, VA: Hi Tom - I recently made reservations at Ray's the Steaks for three people on a Thursday night. When I asked for a table at 6pm, the hostess replied with "Sure, we can seat you at 6pm as long as we can have the table back by 7:30." When we arrived for our reservation, we were again reminded by the hostess that we had the table until 7:30. My question is this: Is it appropriate for a resturant to tell customers when they have to leave? I understand that Ray's is a very small place so they need to get as many people in as possible, but I thought their approach was a bit rude. No other complaints - food and service were excellent! Thanks for your insight - your wisdom is always appreciated! Tom Sietsema: Ray's is very small and immensely popular. Personally, I'd rather be told up front about any time limit on a table. On the bright side, Ray's the Stakes is expanding to Silver Spring late this spring.

I don't know of a website that concerns the noise level. I have the same issue with my parents. You can read between the lines in reviews. Also, post specific restaurants here and maybe some posters can give you advice. Restaurant in DC that I think are quiet: Bistro Lepic Al Tiramisu Galileo (not 100% sure) Obelisk

You best bets for delivery will be ethnic restaurants. I am sure some of Arlington's Indian, That and Vietnamese restaurants delivery. For something like Ray's you may have to appeal to them to do a special favor for you and their regulars. Nicer restaurants generally don't do takeout, much less delivery. Perhaps if one of these restaurants agreed to do takeout, you could call a cab company to do the delivery? Mark

I was going to use that landmark but decided it probably violated some Eg rule about gaining pleasure from things other than food. No, but near there. If I was there now there is no way I would leave it to see you mugs! What, your coming from Good Guys? ←

If one were coming from, lets say 1600 block of Wisconsin Ave (below Sushi-Ko but above Marvelous Market) and one wanted to go to Tonic at, say 5PM on a holiday, what would be the best route? Bonus for avoiding windswept streets as this person will be on two wheels and its 23F out there! Purely theoretical of course, this proposed social gathering.

Exactly. I think people see stars and think Michelin. But the Michelin system has 5+ ratings (Forks, which can be Red or Black) that exist below the star system. A Michelin star means a very special restaurant. Tom's system is constrained, with only 4 real ratings.

If its less than 2, its not mutton, its lamb.

Anyone have a source for Mutton, preferably in DC proper? Thanks

Great job stretch! Congrats.

Since this is becoming a note to Judy, I vote to keep the wine section. Expand it and add new talent. I have purchased a few gems from their recomendations.

By Italian I assume Ducati, Bimoto, Aprilla? Nice. Assylum has a 65 Desmo suspended from the ceiling and its a real biker bar, both bikers with motors and those who deliver pakcages with pedals (more hardcore than any biker I ever met). If he sees a Red 91 VFR on the DC streets tell him to wave and say hi to me. Not sure if I am going to the show as I hate looking at the menu when I can't order.

I had some really delightful service at BdC last night, from the door to the bar to (especially) the table. Bravo.

These guys can give advice http://www.galtwinestorage.com/?source=overture I would also advise at the double capacity issue. Cost and space constraints forced me into a 50 bottle unit and its full full with wines that need ageing. I do disagree that having the wine off-site is better since it avoids those random openings of a great bottle. IMHO thats what is fun about having nice wine about, the ability to share at the right time.

Hey everyone, have a great holidat season. Leaving tonight for 3 weeks in France. Keep on truckin'

Joe, I for one am very happy to see you posting more here than on the 'other' board. You commentary is certainly welcome here!

I hope this post is appropriate here even though its more about cooking. I told my MIL to get some game and I would cook it. I meant pheasant, quail, etc but she got a leg of chevreuil. I am not an expert in cooking deer. Two questions: What is chevreuil exactly? Is it simply a white-tail deer? And any ideas on how to cook it? I need to step up to the plate here! thanks!

Didn't he work at another restaurant near Cafe Milano?

Correct me if I am wrong but Yannis is long gone from BdC. True? Very unfortunate too.
