Playing catch up yet again. Picked up chicken breasts and thighs on sale, so I made up a batch of Chicken, Lap Cheung, Shitaki Mushroom filling for baos like the ones my Mom made. Made a dish of steamed same ingredients for supper, along with Yu Choy, and Lily Bulb soup. As I was channelling my Mom, I also steamed an egg, flour, sugar cake in the +40 year-old basket she handed down to me. My granddaughters love this cake with a glass of ice cold milk. Our Co-Op had slabs of boneless pork loin on sale for $1.99 / lb. I picked up 2 that had more fat, cut those sections up, and did up another batch of char siu in the Big Easy. The weather has been terrific for cooking. Vacuum sealed mostof the strips, but did make up another batch of bao filling. Did up 3 doz and sent most out to the kids and friends. Used some odds and ends for Fun See with Shrimp:

What brand do you use? I have used the Knorr, but have only been using Better Than Bouillon.

@Shelby: You make such a variety of amazing meals, with quite the variety of proteins. Wonderful to have a hubby who hunts and fish. Thank you!

Brushed Hoisin sauce mixed with 5-spice powder, Chinese cooking wine, and a sprinkle of sugar on strips of pork ribs. Wrapped them in foil and baked in the 400F oven for 60 minutes. Removed foil and brush on more sauce. Baked for another 20 minutes. Eaten with Jasmine rice and Shanghai Bok Choy

I don't read a lot of Chinese, but my kids, who are 1/2 Chinese, have always called it as Lo Mama. I buy this at our little Chinese grocery store, and it's also available at the Chinese supermarket in Winnipeg. It comes with peanuts, as you can see in the bottom of the jar.

Power nap after aquacize ran close to our usual suppertime of 8 pm! A quick look in the fridge, and I was able to get supper on for 8:45! Luckily, I had extra rice from a couple of nights ago in the freezer. Cantonese Shrimp Egg Foo Young A dab of Old Mother Chili sauce with Peanuts added a bit of kick!

Having one of these for lunch! I made 3 dozen yesterday. Sent out 2.5 dozens to family, grandkids, friends, and have 6 left for us. I had the one that "burst"...

This looks lovely! We had a cheaper version last night. I was tired out after making 3 doz Char Siu Baos! Microwave cooking at its finest: Costco Polish weiner in Brioche bun, can of Pork 'n' Beans, and ramped up coleslaw. I had raw onions with my dog.

And I bought the Big Easy all those years ago as a tandoori oven for naan! But for char siu, it's perfect!

Needed a quick one wok meal tonight as I was busy working on Char Siu Yaki Udon with various veg, beef and shrimp Was not as warm as I had hoped: -18C, but I was fairly well sheltered out in the backyard. Had marinated slabs of pork sirloin chops, and cooked them in the Big Easy! Diced them up, cooked in hoisin and chicken stock, and ready to make baos tomorrow!

OH! Sorry. $4.99/ lb. Wish they were $.99 / lb . Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end....Lalalalala...

@Shelby Thanks for the bday wishes to Mr. Dejah. I love your plate of gizzards and liver. Used to have big gizzards in the 10 lb chickens we got in the restaurant. My cooks used to slice and stir-fry, so good! The ones in the grocery stores are so small, so I haven't bothered. @liuzhou Happy to see you back in the kitchen! Looks like an efficient one. @weinoo That Roast Chicken with Lemon is a thing of beauty. I have filed the recipe! I think we are coming out of the deep freeze. Temps in the -teens C. Some meals: Picked up a chunk of boneless smoked ham shank at Safeway with a $5.00 off coupon. $14.03 gave us dinner, a few sandwiches as well as a big container for the grandson. Scalloped potatoes, peas, and my cranberry apple orange chutney Oxtalis are hard to find here. One meat store gets them once in a while but never advertised. So I have to keep calling, and checking. They are readily available in Winnipeg, but that's 2.5 hours away. I got a package, one smallish tail $4.99 / lb. That's the cheapest I have found. Did a Braised Jamaican Oxtail Stew. I just happened to have a container of Jamaican Curry in the pantry. It smelled lovely, but I think it's lost its punch. The recipe also called for allspice berries, but used the substitute with ground allspice. The stew was done in the IP, 35 min, then I added carrots and canneloni beans. It was good - sticky oily, great with papardelle pasta. I guess I can't call this Mapo tofu as I added Japanese eggplant;-) Didn't have the smooth tofu, only firm in the fridge. It was OK, but I miss the silky texture. Boneless skinless chicken breast on sale @$.99 / lb. Picked up a couple of trays and cut up 1 1/2 for "Kung Pao Chicken". Spicy Shrimp and Cheesy Grits.

OH! Have never thought of using lamb! Thank you!

We are in a deep freeze until next weekend: -27C, feels like -41C. Wind has been brutal, and blowing the snow that we had for 3 days. Not a good time to be out or driving. Good time to catch up on drooling over all the meals. A few from our kitchen: Spicy Italian sausage, sweet tater, creamed corn and roasted beets Black bean garlic Beef, Bitter Melon, and Ho Fun For hubby's birthday, Paella - recipe from The Spanish Table

I sent you a private msg with the recipe as I am not sure of the restrictions on posting a recipe from a cookbook.

This is a Weight Watchers recipe from Cook Up Comfort. It's for slow cooker, but I just used my cast iron casserole, browned the lamb, then cooked everything in 300F oven for 2.5 hours. Suppose to have couscous as a side, but we are not big fans, so had rice with the stew.

Our little Chinese grocery store has been getting vacuum sealed packages of fresh lily bulbs in. I love this soup made with pork bones. Made chicken patties, a different kind of recipe, without any bread crumbs, etc as a binder. They were sloppy to work with, but turned out lovely! Perogies made by a good friends, cooked in air-fryer. Went to Safeway for bananas, and their rotisserie chickens were just coming out of the oven! Chose potato wedges and creamy coleslaw for sides. Made a Japanese curry gravy with Glico cubes. Lots left over for sandwiches the next days. Granddaughter, 9 and 11 year olds, came for supper last night: medium rare steaks and waffle fries. They like only raw vegetables! For dessert, they had their first pomelo and loved it! That was followed by Chapman's Coffee Chips ice cream. These girls have healthy appetites. They ate from the time they walked in the door!

Using up leftover Xmas turkey from the freezer = pot pie A friend gave us a jar of his Sweet & Sour Beets. They were so tiny and delicious! Had a bit of pastry left over as well, and got 2 little 3" mincemeat pies, eaten with ice cream for dessert. Is Christmas over yet? 😆 We had ham on Boxing Day at our son's. Seeing Ann_T's ham post, I now want ham!

Happy 2024! Started the new year with something a tad lighter and tangy. Lots of rice needed for this dish! Beef & tomato with egg: Dessert was a scoop of Chapman's Vanilla ice-cream with some of my Apricot Peach Pineapple Conserve from the summer.

Our last meal of 2023! Lobster tails poached in butter, and strip loin steaks on cast iron pan for two! Happy New Year, Everyone! All the best in food adventures in 2024!

Was under the weather for a few days before Xmas, so had lots of comfort food for the tummy: Chinese sausage, salted egg and bok choy, with Jasmine rice Steamed Bone-in chicken with Shitaki mushrooms and Chinese sausage, and sauteed Gai Lan, as usual, with Jasmine rice Leftover chicken breast seasoned silkened, and lots of ginger, cooked with the rice. The crusty rice on the bottom of the pot was the best! Leftover was made into congee for next evening Finally, by Xmas day, I was back to my usual self - hungry for Xmas fare! Daughter and s-i-l came home, and I cooked a small turkey with the fixings. Dessert was Banana Cream Pie per s-i-l's request. Boxing Day was dinner at our son's. He baked 2 hams with a lovely glaze, carrots braised in butter, Mac'n' Cheese, scalloped taters, and I took my Holiday Brussel sprouts. All the years my son worked with me in the restaurant has made him a skilled cook - orchestrated everything perfectly in his home kitchen. Made me so proud! I made our traditional dessert: Trifle and shortbread cookies. It's been a couple of days eating leftovers. Really needed a change, so I made Singapore Curry Rice Noodles with Shrimp.

I have been so neglectful in checking forums other than Dinner, Lunch, so I mussed seeing these posts about Anna's passing.😞 So very sad to learn this news. She was one of a kind, and she will be missed by all who knew her, in person and on eGullet. R.I.P Anna.
